A…read moretrue freak must be born." -Katherine Dunn (from the novel Geek Love) At last a vintage store with a legitimately quirky and odd inventory. This place packed a whole antique market, thrift shop, and curio cabinet into one unit. I do not know whether to attempt to describe the few vintage things this store does not stock or the complete horde of objects that it does. The answer to the question of where one would put everything if they had it is definitely Above Face Oddities. The owner, Melanie, worked wonders with this storefront. Were there crates of records? Yes. Were there racks and racks of band shirts. Oui. What about dope patches and pins. Si. Lunch boxes with chill art on them.? Why not. This does not have original art by lady artists? Turns out it does. But with all that inventory, I doubt Above Face sells Halloween costumes, right? Wrong. This store belongs in the sequel to Ghost World. The kind of store Enid and Rebecca would have opened once they completely quit caring about what anyone else thinks. I could see Ripley's Believe It or Not buying this place out. One could pass most, if not all, of a day just mulling over the sheer merch here. There was even a can of Manic Mallow from The Simpsons. Where else would it be? I could on and on about the jeans, the hats, the pins, the belts, the jewelry, the art, the posters, the make-up, the wigs, the risque framed cartoons, but I will leave some of it up to the imagination. Stay in your lane, normcore folk. This store is for the odd.

Every turn was a whole collection of either movies, toys, cds, vintage collectibles. Looking in their music section I took a shot in the dark and asked if they had any Mighty Mighty Bosstones. The owner Steve and his wife (super friendly people) checked inventory. They searched all over high and low. I didn't want to send them on a goose chase so I said no worries. Steve took my number down then texted me 30 minutes later after finding the CD. I was super stoked. Just talking to them it made me feel at home and welcomed being a nerd or someone who cherishes the past. Great people with just as great customer service. It's one of the most unique antique malls I've ever been to. According to the owner, it used to be a rainforest educational center for kids that was founded and run by disney employee, and became a antique mall almost 30 years ago. So, that's where the waterfalls and lake come from! You will find a lot of unique treasures here too. I only picked up a couple of small things, but I'm very picky...and running low on space haha! There's the usual vendor booths that I'm guessing are rented? They're themed accordingly. There's a hidden rail car of sorts, there's uranium glass, there's laser discs, there's all sorts of magazines, there's action figures, there's Joe jost tees. There's EVERYTHING. Heck. There's even benches placed around for you to sit. There's turtles to feed and a really sweet kitty named Luna who loves to be pet upstairs. The cockatoo in the main photo has since passed but apparently they were awesome. The people working here are super knowledgeable and helpful so you don't have to dig around if you don't feel like it (I live for the treasure hunt personally). Prices are beyond fair and they even have marked sales and events for deeper discounts. This place is seriously a dream.

Years ago, they handled a highly valuable, incredibly complex estate for me. I could not have been happier with the results. They are exceptionally knowledgeable, deeply honest, and secured prices for my items that I could not have achieved anywhere else. Suzanne, the proprietor, expertly guided me through the entire process and kept me informed of every single detail. Recently, 16 years later, I required their services again for an extremely complex and diverse liquidation. Once again, they exceeded all expectations. No detail was overlooked, and the execution was flawless from start to finish. If you are looking for the absolute best of the best, look no further. You will not regret choosing them. Suzanne is an absolute diamond, and her depth of knowledge and personal attention are sublime. Highest possible recommendation! If I could give one hundred stars, I would! And by the way, their store is AMAZING! Winston's Estate Gallery is like a Beverly Hills store and will not disappoint!
