It is a lot of fun, with cowboy cooking in dutch ovens, to clothiers selling authentic cowboy clothes from the 1880's, to the fastest draw in town. Not sure about people's nonsensical complaints, but yes.... this is located near a rural highway, but it wasn't busy or inconvenient. Also, yes, they were generous to provide a free shuttle service from your parking spot to the entrance in a golf cart, which we really appreciated because we didnt have to walk in the heat, which is the obvious alternative. The tickets are a great price, especially knowing that it ultimately goes back to help the animals. Some people seem to be confused on the nature of this establishment. It is not a traditional "petting zoo" -- its an *animal sanctuary*. (Which is well disclosed everywhere, if you just take a moment to read a little bit, you'll clearly understand that). Their whole point is to rescue farm animals from cruelty and *slaughter* -- so it seems like common sense that a place that literally rescues farm animals from being slaughtered would also, of course, oppose slaughter and therefore, support veganism. Not complicated to comprehend if you just think it through a little. Obviously, it wasnt forced anyway -- it was just offered incase people were interested. No pressure. All of the volunteers we encountered were incredibly sweet and knowledgeable. You can tell theyre genuinely passionate about animals. They enforced the boundaries of the animals well, while keeping things fun and safe for everyone. Awesome facilities, very clean, and well planned. Again, a very special place that were so excited to visit again. Cheers!

My family and I drove out to see this place last weekend because we love animals and had heard…read moreabout it for years. We arrived to find parking along a busy highway (?!?), with golf carts shuttling visitors to and from the entrance, just a few feet away from cars whizzing past. That was weird. Then we got to the sort of holding area where they keep guests until their reservation time. Before we went in, the owner came out to greet us...sort of. She gave us a basic history of the place, but before she did, she wished us "happy pride" and told us all about how virtuous she was, as if everyone should be celebrating? Weird and inappropriate to say the least. The last thing she did before allowing us the entrance we'd paid handsomely for, was to lecture us about becoming vegans. Which is one of my biggest pet peeves about vegans to begin with. Then she stood at the entrance and offered everyone literature on veganism as we walked past. I declined. Wholly inappropriate, offensive and off putting. I didn't pay to be lectured about something I disagree with. It was nice to (finally) see and interact with the animals, but some of the volunteers were too much. I understand they're used to dealing with idiots every weekend, but some of the instructions they were giving were flat out dangerous, like having babies (maybe 18 months old) feed carrots to grabby, nippy horses. Bad idea when little hands aren't any bigger than the carrots. Most (not all) volunteers were just a bit too power trippy and under-educated for my taste. I will say the facilities were pretty clean and appeared well kept, but the horses and donkeys were filthy and in dire need of grooming. Give your visitors brushes and curry combs and show them how to brush the animals. Win-win for everyone. It was nice to hang out with the animals, but most of the people I could do without. Probably won't be back again.

It's also the place where Standard meets his ill-fated demise and falls victim of several shotgun shells to the side of the neck and back. While the Cash & Coin Pawn Shop sign in front looked very authentic in the movie, I was quite disappointed that this makeshift Pawn Shop turned out to be the Elks - Santa Clarity Lodge #2379, where Boy Scout meetings are held every Tuesday, BINGO is played every Thursday and Sunday. While I was let down that this place wasn't real like some of the other scenes in the movie, I do believe this brotherhood plays a vital role in small close-knit communities - which Canyon Country is. Another amenity of this Elks Lodge is that free Wi-Fi is available throughout the lodge, patio and RV camping area. In case you were wondering what B.P.O.E. means on all the Elks standard, it's an acronym for The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. The benefits for being an Elk are discounts on auto and home insurance, discounted vacations, wireless savings, prescription savings, and much more for Elks Members, their families and businesses. Something that may tickle my fancy in another 50 years or so :) So Pawn Shop this not be, B.P.O.E it shall be. Standard: "Well my name is Standard Gabriel." Irene: "Where's the deluxe version?" Originally we spoke with Kathy Martin, who was full of great info. She gave us the paperwork, it was very affordable and it was my dream to get married in front of this adorable and historic building. She never checked in with us prior to our wedding. When we did check in with her she said there were no changes and that we were all set for Sunday. Our rehearsal was Saturday and it was a DISASTER!!!!! Kathy hadn't told us that they had removed the ENTIRE STEEPLE of the church, and had surrounded the building in GIANT UGLY SCAFFOLDING!!!! Not to mention the yellow tape in the immediate area. Not only did she not tell us about literally any of this - when we asked her for an explanation, she just shrugged her shoulders and said "I guess I forgot, whoops" WHOOPS?! This is the most important day of our lives and all you have to say is WHOOPS?! Unbelievable! And then she proceeded to tell on my husband to the President of the Society - saying that he was going crazy - and then they threatened to call the police! It was insanity! We just wanted to get married! They even had the audacity to ask if I wanted to look at other venues to have our ceremony at. We eventually decided to get married there anyway as we didn't have any time for anything else. Our coordinator did her best to cover the offensive sight in tulle and decor. We also got a refund - but the whole experience was embarrassing and emotional. It really put a bad taste in our mouth about how our historical society is run - and it was even worse that they thought WE were being the crazy ones. I don't know if Kathy was reprimanded in any way but nothing would make me happier than to know she was FIRED!
