I have used her services for well over 15 years now, and will continue to do so for as long as she's in business. For nearly 40 years, I have had a very stressful job, which I manage through exercise, meditation, and therapeutic massage. Complaining to a friend about the inadequacy of those who billed themselves as massage professionals, she recommended me to and swore by "A Sanctuary for Healing." Acting upon her advise, I booked a 60 minute session. Welcoming me into her private Santa Monica studio, my 1st impression was how sweet, warm, & considerate was (and is) her demeanor. She instantly put me at ease, overcoming my anxiety at being in close quarters with a stranger. And, then something amazing took place because I learned what makes Denise so exceptional and frankly extraordinary is her mastery of Swedish/Esalen massage. She concludes the session with a focus on your head and scalp in the most amazing way - that alone is worth the price of admission. Though I try with all my might, I simply cannot express in words where I go when she uses her skills on me. Through her massage I am transported to a different universe; one I neither would nor could ever inhabit without her. All is peace and serenity and warmth. Her touch is strong but gentle, and her strokes languish on your body. A 60 minutes session seemed like an eternity. In a world that seems to get crazier by the day, a session at "A Sanctuary for Healing" transcends all your worldly concerns. At the conclusion of our now-90 minute sessions, I do not regret that my time with Denise is over, for the journey leaves me utterly and completely renewed. But what I do regret--until now--was not extolling to the world what a gift Denise is to her profession and to everyone fortunate enough to have been treated by her. After one session at "A Sanctuary for Healing," you shall return for another. This I guarantee.

I have had the great pleasure of getting worked on by Traci Sutton since 2010. I believe this…read moreenables me to sum up the bigger picture of who she is as a therapist, a business person, and an individual. Traci has an extremely high standard of ethics, which is one of the reasons I respect her so much. She is also one of the most aware people I have ever met. She not only has healing hands, she also has a therapy background that enables her to hear people talk about their innermost issues and respond to them in a deeply compassionate way. Traci's compassion carries over in other special ways - like finding specific period music to play during massage for a senior client who misses dancing to certain songs when she was young. The joyful setting that she creates for that client during her weekly massages cannot be conveyed in words. Her massage technique combines Lomi Lomi, Swedish, and Cranial work to create a session in which her nurturing energy shines through. Her flowing Lomi-style strokes down my back, with just the right pressure for me, always puts me OUT!! As an individual, Traci is a giver and this is certainly evident in her demeanor and her touch. From her choice of career to her choice of volunteer work (most recently, giving bodywork to children who are transplant patients at UCLA), she is a quality person who anyone would feel lucky to have in their lives! So if you're looking for a nurturing and flowy touch from someone who is also a lovely person, you've definitely found her!

Pros: clean, friendly…read more Cons: did not perform the service I paid for. I scheduled a deep tissue massage and there was nothing deep about it. At the beginning she did not ask what type of pressure I liked and she did not ask during the massage if the pressure was ok, or if I wanted more. I spoke up and requested more but she did not increase the pressure at all. At the end of the massage she did not ask how I felt. This made me feel like she didn't care about what kind of massage I liked. She was going to do what ever she wanted. She did explain at the end that my muscles responded with tension when she tried to squeeze them so she would've had to go really deep in order to relax them. I have 3 issues with that: 1) duh that's why I requested a deep tissue massage. I've had bruises from massages, albeit weird I like it that hard. 2) every therapist is different, but this technique is not the norm and it should've been explained at the beginning. 3) because this is not the norm, trust needs to built with the client so that they are open to something new. Unfortunately, I will never go back because I believe she will just do what she wants and not what I want or pay for. If she felt like more pressure would've caused damage she could stop the massage. Instead we both wasted an hour and a half of our time.
