After years of yo yo dieting, I had given up on myself and weight ballooned up to close to 350 pounds. When I called Sheryl, my eating was completely out of control. I needed someone to help me to gain control of my eating habits and my weight. Sheryl's approach was much different than the other plans I had tried before. During our first session she spent two hours asking me what I ate daily and designed a plan around the foods I liked to eat. Yes, you still need to eat nutritional foods to lose weight, but thankfully you aren't restricted to carrots and lettuce. :). There are no prepacked foods, or shots necessary to start to lose weight on Sheryl's plan. After a short time on the plan, I stopped craving the foods that sends my eating out of control. I also found it easy to get back on the plan on few occasions when I strayed. So far with Sheryl's help I have lost 60lbs, and I am confident with what I have learned, I can remain in control during my weight loss journey. It is also great to know that Sheryl is there to give you accountability, and help guide you when you hit a plateau. Sheryl really cares out her client. As my weight has come down, Sheryl has become a friend and has given me advice on how to better handle other parts of my life. My only regret about working with Sheryl, was that I did not meet her years ago.

Our child ended up having to go to a much higher level of care and our lives have been severely negatively impacted because of Page's lack of knowledge about how to treat eating disorders and how to empower families to be courageous and brave in the face of anorexia. We are slowly coming out from deep despair about our child's future with the help of properly trained dietitians and therapists (trained in FBT). Our child lost out on so much as they had to drop out of school and stop seeing friends while in hospital. Page's notes from sessions to us were written like chicken scratch all over the page and very hard to read. Booking sessions with her was difficult as she has no way to book online, you have to go back and forth via email with her assistant. Page was late for several appointments. Page never included us (our child's parents) in sessions so we had NO IDEA what to do. Our child kept getting worse and worse and we finally had to admit them to the hospital. Page never gave us information on WHAT TO DO for our child other than "serve an extra portion of carbs at dinner." This was outdated, scant advice and Page missed many opportunities to truly help us. We are sad we were referred to her by others and we hope NO ONE goes to see her for eating disorders as she has no idea what she's doing. Page just gives you a bunch of outdated copies of nutrition advice on paper and charges you for a session -- with no real advice on HOW TO HELP your child as a parent. If your child is struggling with anorexia -- you need to get the book "Anorexia and Other Eating Disorders" by Eva Musby. This should be REQUIRED reading for any parent of a child with anorexia. Start reading this book immediately, while you start getting a team together for your child. Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness, after drug addiction. You must act immediately. We assumed we were set with Page and our child's therapist -- that they would help our child. But they did not at all because they didn't know about FBT; our child just kept getting worse and worse. Little did we know, we as parents must take the LEAD in helping our child. You know your child --- you must act fast to stop anorexia from becoming too engrained into their mind; otherwise it's a very hard journey back on to the road to recovery. Save yourself the heartache of having to hospitalize your child. Look for a dietitian and therapist who specializes in FBT or Family Based Treatment, the ONLY evidence-based treatment for anorexia. Page DOES NOT do this and she's been a dietitian for a long time. I hope this helps save someone from the heartache we've been through.

I've tried all I can with western medication but only disappointment followed me. Dr. Bai was already very well known in the area of women's health and healing. I went there to meet her with the bad news from my ob that this time could be a bad news again because my ob can't hear the heartbeat with his device. It was very surprising that on that day of meeting her, she did her pulse diagnosis and told me that the 6-week baby (embryo) was still alive, which was verified in the afternoon in the ultrasound exam prescribed by my ob. Even though it was devastating that over the weekend the same tragedy of miscarriage happened again that my baby lost her heartbeat, hope was rekindled in me to follow her treatment with the herbs and acupuncture. Dr. Bai is a very warm person, who always places her patients' needs in front of hers. She spent time examining my situation every time and monitored my progress very efficiently. Her acupuncture skill is excellent. She taught me how to measure my morning temperature and check out my tongue situation to know about my health status. After a period of working on my overall health, she told me that I could try again. I did not fail this time! and my older girl is eleven years this year. What a blessing to have her as my doctor! From that time on, I've been to her clinic for various causes. She was able to treat my serious sciatica (due to my pregnancy with my second kid) on one trip. Dr. Bai never overcharge or put patients on multiple trips when she could help you immediately. I'm actually feeling unfair for her when some people are leaving negative comments here. She is the best doctor and deserves more respect. Her consultation is valuable for her patients. I've known some of her other patients, whose lives, just like mine, wouldn't be the same without her help. If you've been in tough situations like me, you know what I'm talking about. My food allergies had gotten out of control and anything red or orange that I ate (tomatoes, strawberries, bell peppers, watermelon) would make my lips swell up bigger than botox gone bad. A blood test confirmed the allergies Dr. Robbins found through muscle testing. She treated all of my food allergies through acupressure NAET treatments. It was life changing for me. Not only could I eat anything I wanted without an outward physical reaction, I found that previous digestive issues also disappeared. Fast forward several years to when my daughter had a terrible reaction to pineapple at school and was in full body hives for two weeks, Dr. Robbins was able to eliminate the hives through her therapy treatments (no shots!) and also eliminated my daughter's allergies to pineapple, peanut butter, corn, dairy, and many other foods. Dr. Robbins is incredibly gifted in being able to quickly and effectively treat and eliminate allergies like no other doctor I have encountered. Her office feels like a safe haven filled with peace and good energy. I always felt like she was truly listening and interested in what I was telling her that made for a better understanding of my issues and a higher success rate in the overall outcome. She also did a blood test and hair analysis, which told me about all sorts of things that are wrong with me that I didn't know about. (My body chemistry is dangerously low in sodium and potassium and I'm allergic to eggs, for example.) She can also help you reduce your allergies using acupuncture techniques and offers chiropractic services, as well. She's an all-around nice person, very thorough with her explanations, and very easy to talk to. My wife and I visited Open Hand Atlanta to volunteer our time for a couple of hours to prep meals…read more Open Hand provides nutritional meals for those with chronic diseases, such as AIDS/HIV, different forms of cancer, etc. These nutritional meals promote and prolong healthier way of life. Once you arrive and sign in, you'll be taken to a waiting room area, where Open Hand staff gives you a rundown of their history and what their mission is. You also get the rules of the prep room and are gifted a one of a kind hairnet, plastic apron, and men with facial hair gets face masks. No jewelry may be at any time. Rings, necklaces, earrings, facial piercings, watches, etc. can NOT be worn. There are different things that you can do at this space, but I wanted to do meal prep. We washed our hands and grabbed plastic gloves. Keep in mind, the gloves are different sizes. The meal prep was like an assembly line. The meal we prepped was Beef Stroganoff on Noodles with Green Beans. With a scale, the first person weighed the appropriate number for the noodles, the second person weighed the right number of beef stroganoff, and the third person weighed the right number for green beans. There is then a fourth person who wipes off any excess food from around the rim of the food container. This is important so the plastic cover will seal appropriately. It's then put in this contraption that holds multiple containers and a person press seals it and puts it to the side. This is definitely quite a process, but once you get into the flow of it, it becomes easier. Some people make it a challenge against another group to see who can make the most meals. Side note: THIS PLACE IS FREEZING! The ENTIRE BUILDING IS COLD! Bring a jacket or hoody. Overall, this is a great place to come with a group or by yourself and do some charitable services. Fortunately, we came with a large group of my wife's coworkers, so we were able to knock out over 2,500 meals which was awesome! I'd definitely come back.

I didn't…read moreknow what to expect as far as working conditions, the general environment, and exactly what we would be doing. Would I be in some freezing cold meat locker? Would I be inside an insanely hot warehouse? Would I be breaking my already broken back moving heavy objects around? Would I be doing some mundane task for hours and be bored out of my mind? Fortunately, the answer to all those questions was no. I went with a big group to celebrate someone's birthday (a neat idea). Half of us did meal packing and the other half did market basket packing. I signed up for meal packing. Our meal packing session involved packing meals into bags and portioning food into individual containers (think frozen TV dinners). The food was already cooked and just needed to be heated up to be eaten. Market basket packing involves packing nonperishable foods. In this case, the food wasn't cooked and the recipients would need to cook it themselves. We signed up to work from 1pm to 4pm. Each of us had to register on Open Hand's website. After registering and reserving our spots, we received confirmation emails with information, reminders, and dress code requirements. One of the dress code requirements in my confirmation email said, "Long pants are preferred. Skirts or dresses must be shin length." I wore shorts. When standing, those shorts touched the top of my knees. My girlfriend, who also signed up for meal packing, wore shorts too. Her shorts were shorter. She ended up getting moved to market basket packing because of the length of her shorts. This wasn't a big deal, but the dress code requirements listed in the confirmation email should have been more clear about shorts or simply just said that long pants are required for meal packing. There was at least one other person in our meal packing group with knee-length shorts. When you arrive to Open Hand, the volunteer entrance is clearly marked. Each volunteer must sign in and sign out using a computer just inside the entrance. We arrived right around 1pm, checked in, and were ushered into an orientation room. The orientation was quick, about 10 minutes. A short video about Open Hand was played and then we got some in-person instruction. After that, we were whisked to our volunteer work areas. For meal packing, we had to wear hair nets and aprons. First, we helped prepare bags to place meals in, then we moved into the meal packing work area. This was a cool, clean room with various tables and assembly lines. One group was already sealing TV dinner trays when we arrived. We washed our hands and helped assemble bags with four meals in them: Monday lunch, Monday dinner, Tuesday lunch, and Tuesday dinner with cornbread and condiments (ketchup and mustard). It was pretty easy. Each person was assigned to place one or two items into each bag and pass it down. I was responsible for the ketchup and mustard. After a bag had four meals, cornbread, and condiments, it was tied and placed on a tray which was later stacked and carted off. We assembled 126 of these Monday-Tuesday meal bags. Two of our meal packing group were broken off and sent to the cornbread station where they individually bagged and sealed cornbread. The cornbread was already cooked and cut. After assembling the meal bags, we took a short break in the break room and then were called back into the meal packing room for another job. This time, we had to portion food into TV dinner trays which would later be sealed. This task was harder than the last because we had to handle food directly with our hands (wearing gloves of course) and measure correct portion sizes using scales. We packed 285 meal trays filled with chicken, mushroom risotto, and peas and pearl onions. The hands of the people scooping and portioning out the risotto and peas got tired. I helped a little bit with the peas and organizing and stacking the meal trays on bigger trays, but I mostly was responsible for placing a piece of chicken on top of the risotto. We ended up spending almost our full 3-hour allotment at Open Hand. The market basket packing group ended up finishing early, in under 1.5 hours. Volunteer Services Manager Julie Barwig was the person who oversaw our group. In the meal packing room, Andre led us for the meal bag packing and Shameka led us for the meal tray portioning. Everyone was nice and friendly. I enjoyed the experience so much that I'm now considering signing up to do meal delivery. Open Hand's mission statement: "Open Hand helps people prevent or better manage chronic disease through Comprehensive Nutrition Care, which combines home-delivered meals and nutrition education as a means to reinforce the connection between informed food choices and improved quality of life." The campus is located in the industrial Armour neighborhood of Atlanta near SweetWater Brewing Company and the Armour Yard rail yard on the southern edge of Buckhead.
