Known as Brazil's only Gelateria accredited by the Accademia della Gelateria Italiana, and also popular for Pizza and Coffee, it is immediately upon entry to Rua Visc. de Pirajá thay guests are greeted warmly, a variety of flavors spread across two cases from which sampling is encouraged. Varying flavors daily, classics such as Pistachio and Coffee showing off smooth textures and a relatively small amount of Sugar, it was after tasting both Caju and Avocado that an over-filled cup was chosen, Dulce de Leche predictably a lot like Caramel while Rum-Pineapple-Amaretto improved upon America's "Rum Raisin" with Almond Liqueur and went well bite-for-bite against Romeu e Julieta comprising Cream Cheese plus Guava.

It is a vanilla-like ice cream (but better than normal vanilla ice cream) with small chunks of mild white cheese. That still sounds kind of strange, but the combination makes so much sense once you've had it. Perhaps it's that the cheese cuts the sweetness of the ice cream a bit and provides a new texture dynamic. Anyway, pure genius. Ice cream will never be the same. **I'm adding cheese ice cream to my top 10 favorite foods.** Life-altering. Absolutely luscious.

There are tons of ice cream options in Ipanema, and i got excited to see a new place open. As…read moreeveryone has mentioned, their decor is great. White, clean and inviting. With cute wooden structures to resemble winter cabins. They have various flavors (not has many as Vero) but different mix. I noticed that their flavors are creamier than other locations too. That many that i tasted reminded me of a soft serve texture. They do pile on a lot in their pot - which was good. It is a nice location, friendly staff and good serving size. But, the texture and flavor options were not something I personally enjoyed.

However the service, especially in this particular branch is so painfully slow. I would chose to go to Momo's just to avoid the long line at Venchi. Today's line wasn't even that bad, just one family and one single person in front of us. It must have taken 15-20 mins to get the orders taken and then you have to queue for getting the ice cream after! The single person in front of us, an obvious Brazilian was even getting impatient. I ordered a medium ice cream (2 flavors) on a cone and a chocolate bar. They have quite a collection of candies and chocolate bars on display and while waiting in a line that doesn't move, it's easy to pick up a few more things to make it worth it. The prices are higher than other gelato shops but the quality is good. We tried the cappuccino and nougatine which was a delicious combination and the cone was scrumptious. The ladies behind the counter looked like novices, they couldn't break change, they had trouble scooping the ice cream and they took forever to figure things out. It's good ice cream but not worth the hassle. I'd try another branch next time, since they have them all over.

The Italian shop in Ipanema is spacious and offers all their other chocolate products besides the ice cream. A small for which is only one flavor is R$12, which is on the pricier end, as in other locations for this same price, you can get at least two flavors. A top favorite is the Cremino mix -- chocolate with hazelnut. All really smooth textures. I find them to be more on the pricier end, and not being able to get two flavors for this price (I feel it helps when I can cut the rich chocolate flavor with a lighter fruit flavor) I usually tend to pick other locations over this one. BUT, I still recommend people to try them, cause many do enjoy them. Italian brand with many locations worldwide and one large store in Ipanema worth a visit.
