Count on Bachmans for fresh flowers! These roses are a week old and still going strong. Bring some home for your beautiful wife. ;)

I prefer Apple Valley Bachmans to any other nursery in the area. The reasons are simple - the selection of healthy vigorous plants, carefully chosen to be a perfect fit for our climate and extraordinary staff who really know what they are doing. I am a former city dweller. I was born in a concrete jungle so far north, Minnesota feels like a tropical vacation to me. I spent my formative years in another concrete jungle. I dabbled in gardening - an inpatients planter thrived on my windowsill one year, raising my gardening confidence level to an all-times high. So naturally, when I moved to my sprawling estate in Minnesota 'burbs, I decided to put my talents to a good use. I'd plant a garden, the UofM Extension hasn't dreamt of! Boy did I spend a lot of money in Gertens or Pahl's that year on plants that were either eaten by my furry neighbors or didn't survive the winter as they were Zone 5 plants. Come next year, I had another fabulous idea. This time I was going to plant azaleas and rhododendrons. I did my research and this time went to Bachmans, it was closer than other nurseries and on the way home from kids's daycare. As I walked into Bachmans nurseries I was immediately greeted my an associate who was clearly enjoying her job. She asked if I needed help, so I said - The UofM developed a new azalea hybrid for zones 3-4, do you sell those? Was I full of myself when I said that? Hell yeah, I did 3 weeks of research and knew EXACTLY what I needed! So the sales associate (let's call her a garden fairy) nodded enthusiastically and said - let me ask you a few questions: tell me about yourself, are you a patient person? Do you have a lot of spare time? Ok, I guess I did look a little out of place decked out in a business suit with 2 preschoolers wrecking havoc on the store as we spoke. But then the garden fairy proceeded further asking about the purpose for my planting azaleas - hide a shed? Got it. How much sun does the spot have? Wind? Lots of wildlife? Do you want spring blooms or all-summer long blooms? (I was like, damn this fairy surely knows her azaleas)!! So long story short, the fairy led me to hydrangeas. And with a genuine smile, not even batting an eye on my soaking wet kids who were trying to water the roses, said - these love shade and grow fast. They bloom for months. But what about azaleas I asked? Plant those when you retire. Best part - those hydrangeas are perfect! I haven't done a thing to them since planting, except occasional soak, and they are doing great, growing like they are on steroids, blooming. And I feel like such an accomplished gardener. :)) There was that other time I decided to plant clematis. Same thing happened, and I was recommended the queen of clematis that a gardener like myself can't kill. It got eaten by rabbits 3 times, I forgot all about it after, never even watered it, and re-discovered it some time later noticing an odd pop of blue color in my yard - my clematis in full bloom! So for all of you, aspiring gardeners, go to Bachmans in Apple Valley and trust their garden fairies. The UofM might not be blown away, but you will love your yard and feel good about yourself. I will post pictures next summer :)

    On a mission.

Updated review: Came back a second time with a friend and I'm honestly much more impressed. My…read morefirst visit didn't totally win me over, but this time the coffee was noticeably better and the overall experience felt more worth it. The space still has a slightly weird food hall vibe (not super cozy coffee shop energy), but the drinks are hand crafted. They use local beans, have handmade syrups, and offer a fun variety of specialty drinks that feel thoughtful and well made. One of my favorite details: the plants throughout the shop have names and many are for sale, which is such a fun, quirky touch and makes the space feel more intentional and unique. Overall, I'm glad I gave it another shot, much better experience the second time and definitely a cool local spot with personality.

Rough first impression for sure. This is one identity within a building called "Resolve Food Hall",…read morewhich is the main thing you'll notice as you approach the building. I was not sure I was even in the right place at first. Straight ahead as you enter is the coffee shop part of this place, and there is a touchscreen ordering panel but also a cashier. However, we came at 11am on a Saturday and wanted some of the brunch options. We were directed to a table in another part of the facility, given the full Curiouser menu, and abandoned for 30 minutes. No one talked to us again so we left and got brunch at another nearby establishment. I still hadn't had any coffee later that afternoon so I stopped by to try an easier scenario, and I had an excellent iced drink called Absolutely Alice. Perfect sweetness level for me; I like it sweet while still being able to get coffee flavor out of it. So I would definitely return for a coffee. The corners of the building that are meant to be associated with the coffee shop part of the business are nice; lots of plants and homey touches. But even though we did see servers taking orders at other tables, I don't think they have that down. I'd recommend coming here just for small orders at the counter.

I inherited a lawn and garden from someone way beyond my skill level, and I've spent literal years…read morelooking for a gardener or landscaper who would be willing to work on smaller projects ($5k-$10k) to help me clean it up. I was also looking for a company who cares about eco-friendly gardening, which obviously led me to Ecoscapes. I was initially very impressed at the consultation. Craig was really professional and extremely knowledgeable. He spent a lot of time telling me about my yard and even walked through every little spot with me identifying plants and giving me ideas for DIY projects that I could tackle without much cost. I was literally at the point of tears (of joy) after the consultation because I was so grateful. Unfortunately, once things got into the planning stages, the experience went downhill pretty fast. It took almost a month before I received the initial quote on the project, although he said things might be delayed so I didn't think much about it at the time. But after that, all communication completely dropped off. I sent a follow-up message to the quote asking for a couple modifications, but never heard back. After a few weeks I sent another message asking if he received my last one. That's when he very quickly responded (quote): "I'm sorry, I'm not interested in small projects. If you decide to tackle a larger project I would be fine with entertaining that in the future." To say I was disappointed is an understatement. It was immediately clear to me that my project wasn't "valuable enough" for him, despite having long-term plans for multiple projects. What was especially frustrating is that his business is not only advertised as "small project-friendly" but Craig was clear in the consultation that he would work with me after I had given him the scope. It definitely felt like he was simply "being professional" to get the $100 consulting fee but had no actual interest in following through. I had also put other prospective landscapers on hold waiting for responses from Craig that I never received. So while the consultation went well, I really can't recommend this company if you're considering a project under $10k. Which is a shame because I was ready to be a customer for life based on the first meeting. So if you need an eco-friendly landscaper and you don't have a big budget, look elsewhere. But if you're looking to pay $100 for someone to tell you about the plants in your yard, the fee is worth it.

They then installed a circular paver patio with seating area around the back, paver sidewalk connecting the patio to our stairs coming down from deck and concrete patio from our walk-out, drainage system installed from side of house traveling under the paver walkway that drains into the most amazing rain garden filled with beautiful perennial flowers and a river birch, and finally, the rest of the yard was planted with assorted native trees and shrubs. Our yard was totally unrecognizable when they were done. They left things neat and tidy too. We could not be happier with Ecoscapes Sustainable Landscaping!
