I was in Florence recently and obviously had to check out the viral Vivoli! There was a fairly long…read moreline when I arrived, but it moved quickly -- I only waited about 10 minutes before I placed my order. Service was quick, I wouldn't say it was overly friendly, but they did a good job.
I ordered the pistachio affogato and a croissant. Sadly, I dropped the croissant on the ground because I didn't have enough hands to hold everything, so I can't say how it tasted, but it looked delicious!
They have making affogatos down to a science. You hand the workers your receipt when you get up to the counter, and they make about five of them at a time and then know whose is whose. Each one takes about two minutes to prepare.
The affogato was sweet and rich, I wouldn't really say there's a lot of pistachio taste to it since it's just around the rim. But I enjoyed it just the same.
You will definitely be surrounded by influencers who want to take photos of themselves at the wine window outside, so just be mindful of that. I took my cup across the street and sat on a bench away from the crowd.
I'm glad I tried it while I was in Florence - I don't know if I would need to go back on a return trip, but I can say I checked it off the list!
