La Strega Nocciola was one of several gelaterias that I tried while in Firenze. I made it my…read moreintention to try as much gelato as I could in the city so when we had some down time post-lunch we thought that a little sweet would hit the spot.
To be transparent, one of the things that drew me to La Strega was the name, I wanted to see what was so witchy about this gelato - and of course the positive reviews helped. The gelateria itself was lovely - soft music playing with intricate decor and a good amount of space. There were a few chairs and stools in case you wanted to sit and enjoy, though they were a little awkwardly placed.
There were several flavors of gelato as expected - instead of being on display they were in tubs covered in lids. I heard that's the "proper" way to store gelato as it remains fresher, though the jury is still out for me on that one. Anyway, I got the smallest cup size where I was able to choose two flavors - so I went with the cream and the chestnut.
The gelato was really good - creamy with great flavor. Service was great, and overall this was a solid gelateria - La Strega is definitely worth stopping into when in Firenze.
