The focus they put on leadership and self-governing is something I wish I had learned growing up. My brother struggled in regular school to the point we weren't sure if he could keep up here. However within the school year he was actually excelling, not because the school is easy, but because he had a true support system. His teacher would work one on one with him and gave him extra assignments that would help him get the concepts in a way he could understand and practice. It was a lot of work for my brother, but to finally be on A honor roll was priceless! I knew I wouldn't want my daughter to go anywhere else after seeing my brothers transformation. They focus on true principles and helping the students learn for themselves and enjoy the process. We love this school and feel so lucky to have found them! We also love the new campus!

It is amazing to see how far this school has come. I feel that the skills I learned from attending this school from 2nd grade through middle school have carried with me until this day. My reading and writing skills are strong and this school truly prepared me for college. As an adult now, I read quite often for fun. This academy truly focuses on a classical education, which is not a focus in public schools today. Scholars learn cursive and multiplication/division starting in second grade. These skills stay with them for the remainder of their schooling. This academy does a nice job focusing on building the skills they've learned brick by brick each school year. Now as an adult, I hope to send my own children here one day so that they can experience the same type of educational experience I had in my childhood. American Heritage Academy has a warm, friendly feeling the moment you walk in. Scholars are beyond excited to come in each day and see their classmates and teachers. It is a school that is rigorous, but students look forward to coming each day because of the special, nurturing environment this school provides. It is a very family friendly school, and you can be as involved as you wish to be in your child's education.

I want to start by saying this daycare seemed very promising, but after five months with our…read moredaughter, we lost confidence in the care she was receiving. One of the first concerns happened when I picked her up and was told she had a diaper rash. The staff said Aquaphor wasn't working, so they used one of their own sprays instead. My response was, "Why aren't you using the Desitin we provided, clearly labeled with her name and accompanied by a doctor's note instructing you to use it?" They apologized and assured us they would use it going forward. This immediately raised concerns about attention to care, especially since diaper products should never be shared between children due to the risk of spreading illnesses like Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD). On June 18, after a week at home with us, we dropped our daughter off and informed staff she had drool bumps on her chin because she was cutting two teeth at once. Later that day, we received a call saying she had a temperature of 99.4°F and was being sent home for suspected HFMD because she supposedly had bumps around her mouth, in her mouth, and in her diaper area. The "bumps" around her mouth were the same drool rash we had pointed out that morning, and they nearly disappeared after simply wiping her chin dry. She had no bumps in her diaper area and no mouth lesions. The next morning, her pediatrician examined her, laughed at the assessment, said she had absolutely no signs of HFMD, and cleared her to return. We met with the Director and Assistant Director to explain what happened. The Assistant Director admitted she hadn't been told about the drool rash or teething before making the assessment. We also brought up the earlier diaper cream incident and explained how concerning it was that our daughter's prescribed cream wasn't being used while they were quick to send children home over concerns about HFMD. We were assured these issues would be addressed. Then, in July, our daughter actually contracted HFMD. She had the classic symptoms: fever followed by lesions around her mouth, in her mouth, and on her hands and feet. We kept her home through her recovery, and once her pediatrician confirmed she was no longer contagious, we received another signed clearance note allowing her to return. The doctor also prescribed antibiotics for a mild ear infection, and we informed the daycare that the antibiotics could cause loose stools and diaper rash, asking them to apply her diaper cream accordingly. The first day back went well. However, the following morning, just one hour after dropping her off, I received another call telling me she was being sent home for suspected HFMD. They pointed to healed red marks under her chin from the previous infection, a small red mark on her finger that she's had since birth, and claimed her diaper area would "shock" me. When I got home and checked, she simply had a diaper rash from the antibiotic-related loose stools. There were no blisters, lesions, or signs of HFMD. Even more concerning, there was absolutely no evidence that her prescribed Desitin had been applied despite the daycare describing the rash as severe. Anyone who uses Desitin knows it leaves a visible white residue, and there was none. We took her back to the pediatrician, who again confirmed she had no signs of HFMD and again questioned whether the daycare was confusing her with another child. At that point, we decided to withdraw our daughter. As I packed up her belongings, one of the workers ran over laughing and said, "Can't forget this!" while handing me the nearly full tube of diaper cream. After five months, it looked like it had only been used a couple of times, despite multiple conversations, a doctor's note, and repeated reminders. I can't speak to the rest of the school, but our experience in the Angel's classroom left us extremely disappointed. We experienced repeated misdiagnoses that resulted in unnecessary doctor visits and missed work, along with repeated failures to follow a simple doctor's order to use our daughter's assigned diaper cream. For us, those issues reflected a lack of attention to detail and consistency that we simply could not overlook.

I went to this school for all three years and boy howdy has it been a roller coaster of emotions…read more In 6th grade I would've gave this school 1 start out of pettiness but I've since grew as a person. First things first, the food is ass. It's about what you'd expect for school cafeteria food. Some teachers can be STRICT as hell for god knows why. I will admit, as annoying as the strict teachers were I'm glad some are there. my 7th grade science teacher Ms T was so strict and I absolutely dreaded that class because of it. Must've been a good thing though because I passed her class with a high B. The new cellphone policy was more tedious than anything. If people who are gonna be misbehaving want to use their phone, they're gonna use their phone the pouch ain't stopping them. Some of the staff there are a bitch. Excuse my language. The school is dirt poor. They rely on fundraisers and donations. I'm surprised they stopped selling Panda Express and Caines since they're in need of mone. They did it because they wanted to go "healthy". Honestly surprised that was their approach to healthy alternatives when the cafeteria food looks like it was bioengineered in a lab. As much as I had pretty alright time here, I probably wouldn't recommend it. A bit off topic, if the choir teacher ever reads this I want her to know that something she said always pissed me off. She would say "This is a performing arts school, if you didn't want to sing then you shouldn't have come here" or something along those lines. That always got me mad because I didn't sign up for choir. My first choice was theater (which I got it) and I also tried doing art but got put in choir. Got me mad because I just wasn't passionate about singing That was more of a personal note though. Real talk, the choir program is actually AMAZING though and I'd highly recommend it if you like singing. Another great department is theater. Mr Thedell and Ms Wilder are the goat fr fr #JUSTICEFORCHRIS #FREEHBOMAXGUY

1 STAR EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE AT THURMAN WHITE ACADEMY…read more My daughter's experience at Thurman White Academy was extremely disappointing, particularly because of her English teacher, Ms. Amy Dvorak. In my experience, her approach toward my daughter was unnecessarily harsh, discouraging, and lacking in compassion. I strongly encourage parents to pay close attention to their children's experiences in her classroom. Despite my repeated emails and screenshots showing that my daughter had completed her assignments, Ms. Dvorak would not grade the work because it had not been placed in a designated classroom basket. Instead of providing additional academic guidance, she suggested my daughter needed to leave the accelerated class to receive more support. What disturbed me even more was the constant negative communication about my daughter. I repeatedly received emails complaining about her behavior, including comments about her nails, hair, and appearance. My daughter also reported feeling constantly watched, singled out, and unnecessarily written up for minor issues. As a parent, I found this treatment unacceptable and emotionally discouraging for a child who deserves encouragement and support. Her math teacher, Ms. Lobue, could also improve her communication, patience, and ability to provide additional learning resources to students who need help. However, I must commend Principal Dr. Matthew Jackson, who was very responsive, professional, and genuinely concerned about my daughter's academic development. He listened to my concerns and made efforts to address them. In my experience, he was the one administrator who truly demonstrated a commitment to helping my child succeed. Unfortunately, my experience with Ms. Dvorak overshadowed the positive efforts of the principal. I strongly urge CCSD to review my concerns regarding her grading practices, repeated disciplinary reports, communication with parents, and treatment of students. Parents, please advocate for your children. No child should feel constantly criticized, intimidated, or discouraged in a learning environment. Teachers should build children's confidence, not tear it down. I would not recommend this school based on my daughter's classroom experience.

Our son is 14 and has been struggling with fitting into the box of standard schooling for the last few years and he had started to become down and frustrated with everything. He is an artist and that started reflecting in his drawings as well. After the visit he was still unsure but we knew this was the right school for him. After the first 2 weeks we started noticing changes at home. He became happier and this reflected not only in his demeanor but also in his artwork. When we got his school pictures back HE WAS SMILING!! He hasn't smiled in a school picture for at least 3 years. Watching him become more comfortable with himself and who he is since we started has been an amazing experience. Thank you to all of you that he comes into contact with on a daily basis. Thank you for letting him know you care about him and who he is, that you care about how he is learning and progressing and that you are there for him and for us. We have found a community within this school and we are very grateful to each of you!!

I sent my daughter to Montessori Vision Academy in Las Vegas, where she was enrolled in preschool…read more One day, she came home and told me, "The teacher said, 'I'm done with you,' and then she told me that teacher said "You need to finish this task -- look, your daddy is waiting outside and crying because you're not finishing it.'" Remember, my child is not even four years old. After this incident, she began arranging her toys and yelling at them, saying things like "Stop! Stop!" This behavior was very unusual for her and raised concerns. I reached out to other parents, and some of them said their children had made similar remarks about the same teacher. I requested a meeting with the preschool director and the teacher. During the meeting, the teacher denied everything, saying my daughter is one of the best students and she would never do such a thing. I calmly repeated the same words the director had used in our first meeting: "We need to trust children -- they are not manipulative." That very day, I withdrew my daughter from the school. To all parents reading this: trust your instincts and your kids.

It's quite a change in his academic progress and his enthusiasm for school. He says Yayy every morning when I tell him what day it is, and that's school day. He started reading when he was four and a half. I don't have to ask him twice when it's reading time at home. Somehow Challenger got him to feel like he is having fun when he reads or works on the worksheets. He is able to explain to me errors he makes on his worksheets at school, and able to show me corrections. I am happy with his academic growth at this school. I like that the school entrance is locked at all time. You can't get to the front desk before you get approved to pass through the locked entrance There were couple times I had issues with admin. At first, I didn't know the school required uniform shirt and pants. I only ordered my son uniform shirts and went to buy him pants from a clothing store. One day he came home in someone else's pants with no note to explain why his pants were changed. When I called, that was when I was informed about the mandatory uniform. I was upset at how they made him change into different pants at school, and how they didn't have the courtesy to call me to work out the uniform issue. Another time was when I received a past due notice, and a warning of my son's school termination if the past due was not taken care of by so and so date. I was not made aware of the due. When I called the school to take care of the amount, I was told that it was from the one day that we picked him up late. Ms Brenda always calls me back in timely manner.
