Jack of all trades, Baby Blue straddles the spectrum of club, bar and restaurant, but the bottom line is whether or not it has a great atmosphere. It kind of does... I just wish it wouldn't pride itself on having 'one of the highest celebrity counts' in Christendom. Urgh, just because a celebrity visits doesn't mean the place is good.
Thankfully the ticket entry is usually only around a fiver so it's not like you're paying through the nose for your merriment. It's impressive-looking for sure, with a balcony fit for 100 providing a gorgeous view of the waterfront and glass walls which directly face the city centre skyline thus making for a stunning visual at night, you can't argue with the aesthetics of the place. The staff are pleasant, which for me is a surprise in venues frequented by celebrities, but while as a standalone bar it scores points, the food is what lets the place down. It's highly overpriced for what it is and with desserts starting at £5 they really should be better at those costs.
The drinks aren't insanely expensive but they're not budget prices either. They are varied and wide, however, so there's definitely something cocktail-wise, wine-wise or beer-wise for everyone. For me it has the potential to be a great bar - if it dropped the pretentious celeb tag and sorted things out behind the scenes in the kitchen it would perhaps remind me of my beloved Kro. In the meantime it's a little bit meh, but those staggering views really do make up for a multitude of sins. read more
