I will never shop at this store again. I had heard horror stories about how rude the owner was, but I needed a blouse for my daughter's corduroy jumper before a vacation, so I decided to give it a try. I walked in with my sister and we browsed for a full five minutes before he came to the front of the store from the back room. I asked him if he had a woven cotton Peter Pan collared shirt for a girl. He said they didn't carry it. As we turned to leave, he asked "have you been in here before?" I said no. He smugly said "I can tell because if you had you would know I don't carry that type of clothes." My sister and I looked at each other and bust out laughing. I honestly don't know how this place is still in business. The owner is the rudest, most condescending man I've ever encountered, business owner or otherwise. He's excellent at driving away business by insulting his customers. I left his store in tears and vowed to never give him another dime. Of course, he made fun of me for shopping on the sale rack, so I can assume he doesn't want my money anyway. There are many other great baby stores around. I highly recommend Fashions for Kids for boutique clothing. Baby's Corner in Covington is nice, too. read more

When I found out I was pregnant in April 2013, we started researching various products and found ourselves in Baby & Me often. Each time, the owner was pleasant to deal with and I had no issues. I had not read any reviews on the store itself at this point, as I was only researching the specific products. In early September 2013, I ordered four pieces of Muniere furniture for my baby that was due in January. I took advantage of a special that they were running at Baby & Me - buy three pieces of Muniere furniture and you get the conversion kit and a mattress for free. Pretty good deal since the conversion kit alone is $200. I received a call the second week of October that the furniture was in. I got it quick because this was a new model and he had pre-ordered a few. I had it delivered and when opening the boxes, the bed was the wrong color. We contacted the owner and he said he thinks the driver grabbed the wrong one and he would re-deliver the right one himself, which he did. I also let him know that we didn't receive the conversion kit. He told me that those are on back-order and as soon as it came in he would call me. A month went by, I followed up. He told me that it takes 6 - 8 weeks and to give it a little more time. Another month went by, I followed up. He told me there were issues at the manufacturer. Another four months went by with me following up with him during that time only to have excuses made each and every time. In March he left me a voicemail that said he promised me that the conversion kit was on the March 15 delivery. March 15 came and went. Then, on May 20,2014 I had enough. I contacted him to question him once again and directly asked him, "Am I EVER going to get this furniture because if I'm not, tell me now so that I can pursue other options - such as contacting the BBB and a small claims court attorney. My patience has completely run out." Well, that set him off. From there he told me that I would never amount to anything. That I am a hateful person and God will punish me. That because I work in healthcare (this came up in a previous conversation) that I am what's wrong with this country and then he started going off about the Obama administration. At one point it became so comical that I had to chuckle. I was completely shocked by how he was carrying on. It wasn't just anger. This man truly has some sort of mental condition as the things he was saying to me were just beyond rude, they were bordering on crazy. He then offered to give me a gray conversion kit that he had in stock right then. My bed is white. I told him that was not good enough. He asked, "What can I do to make you go away?" I told him he could give me my conversion kit or $200 so that I could go somewhere else and purchase it. He then said, "I just need you off my back! I want you to go away." Before I hung up on him (he would not shut up or let me get a word in), I told him that I wouldn't call him again, but if he did not contact me by the end of May with the furniture, he would be hearing from an attorney on my behalf. At this point I doubt I will ever get the conversion kit, so I have decided to file a small claims court dispute on him. Although it is such an aggravation to do this, I feel that he needs to be taught a lesson that you can't continue to treat people this way and that I'm not going away without getting what he owes me. What a wack job! I also recommend that you check out the reviews on Yahoo, as there is negative after negative information on this man and his store. Wish I had done my homework first :( read more

After reading the reviews, I was hesitant about going in, especially driving all the way from New Orleans. I mean no one gave the store over 2 stars, even on the search engines, but I have nothing but good things to say about the store and the workers. I am a teacher and am very detailed and observant. The carpet was clean throughout the whole store, except in one spot, items were not everywhere, and even though they have lots of stuff in the store, I was able to walk comfortably down the aisles and maneuver at 8 months. We were greeted immediately, and as you walk in, the traditional children's clothing is remarkable!! Girls on the right, boys on the left. The car seats/strollers are in the middle of the store and then further back, there's nursery furniture complete with bedding and all. There was a good selection on baptism outfits and accessories and the store also has baby books, frames, diaper bags, and nursery decor. We were there for a car seats, but just couldn't decide on the one to get. I didn't feel pressured to buy anything and all of my questions were answer thoroughly. We received a few demonstrations and how to and got some inside feedback on our Peg Perego car seat. Even though we were there near closing on a Saturday, we were not rushed and even talked to the owner and his daughter about the previous stores they had in addition to just having general conversations about life. We were not looked upon as if we couldn't afford the stuff, as I was in "cleaning clothes" and my husband in his Rouses uniform, even though this car seat is on the expensive side. Needless to say, we did not look like we had money, but were still treat as customers. We also had our 3 sons with us, ages 15,12,&8. The owner and his daughter commended us numerous times on our children's manners and even had casual conversations about boring stuff (school) and fun stuff (football season). This helped alot because they did not want to be in another baby store. They were not watching the kids when they touched things and were friendly and kind with all of the other customers who came in after us, whether they bought something or not. I am a shopper and I highly recommend Baby & Me and will definitely be back! Also, the clothing was moderately priced, I had to keep telling myself that I was not there for clothing. I saw a few girl outfits in the $28-32 price range that are "classic" little girl clothing that you don't seem to see anymore, but I know where to go when I'm not with my husband to shop. :) read more

I just can't say enough nice things about my experience at this baby store! I finally found my daughter's coming home outfit after looking for months for something special and unique! The owners were so kind and helpful that when I left with my purchases I knew I would be going back again. Being a mother of two little ones, I was a regular customer of Baby & Me having moved to Mandeville a little over 2 years ago...that was until the conversation I just had with Owner, Sheldon D. about an hour ago. I was in the store for about 15 minutes just checking out the Mudpie line of clothing he sells (love their stuff) but I realized I had most everything he has in stock already. He asked me how I could possibly have the stuff since he just received it. I told him not only do I shop in his store but I also shop on-line and purchased some of the Mudpie items from an on-line retailer. This set Sheldon off! He began degrading me for shopping online, told me I was "un-American", "not a supporter of local businesses", "not a friend of the state of Louisiana" and that I was wasting his time by shopping in his store. I took this as a learning opportunity and tried to educate him by telling him many stores in recent years have diversified and opened up on-line channels of business in addition to brick and mortar store fronts. He told me I had no idea as to what I was talking about - which is actually hysterical since my family owned Big and Tall stores in Georgia and Florida for 25 years - only to shut them down 8 years ago because guess what, they failed to diversify and open up online! I can go on for the additional 10 minutes we talked, but I'll save you the read. It was clear poor Sheldon never took customer service 101 and it's also sad that he (being what I would consider a successful business owner) could be so shallow and narrow minded. Open your eyes, Sheldon...it's 2014 and just so you know, I purchased on-line from a local retailer!!!! As I wrapped up the conversation, I told him I was so sad that he was such an angry man and I would likely never shop with him again based on the way he spoke to me. He told me he would greatly appreciate that...and as I can quote him, "I don't want you or anyone else that shops on-line to waste my time or come into my store again". The children's store that doesn't like children. Before I begin to tell my story let me offer you some advise on stores and web sites so that you can avoid this store. For clothes see Beth or Emma at SilverPlum they also have a shoe store in the store and are one of the only places that fit your child for shoes and Sally at Fashions for Kids. Both of these stores have a play area for children and share the motto that their stores are designed for kids and they are welcome to come in, look around, and play. If you need baby furniture or gear go see Crystal at All About Baby she is extremely knowledgable about her products and even heirloom products that you may want to use for you child. All About Baby also has a great selection of children clothes. I have not shopped the Baby's Corner often but always find them to be very helpful and professional. The only thing that Baby and Me carries that these stores do not is the Mud Pie line of clothing, which can be found at Mybabypie.com. They have awesome customer service, free shipping, and cheaper prices. Now to my story. I went into to exchange an outfit I had purchased for a bigger size. I have never liked shopping in this store because of the owners pushy sales tactics, constant change of employees, cramped store, and the smell(it is located next to a Smoothie King and constantly smells of rotten bananas). It has always been a place I only went when I needed something and had exhausted all other options. The owner made rude comments because my son took an item off a shelf, that to him looked like a car, to play with. My son was seventeen months old at the time. He then suggested that I should take my children next door to Fresh Market and let them open and play with all the packages of cookies since I let them play with everything in his store- it was one car that he played with and my daughter did not touch a thing in his store. I took my item and told him I would not be back. If I could rate this store less than one store I would. read more

Same happened to me. I went in with my daughter to look for some items for her new baby. He followed us around the store. He asked what kind of stroller we had and where we got different things for the baby that we already had, then insulted us by telling us how inferior those were compared to what they carried. He also wouldn't let us shop because he kept badgering and following us around, and it became so uncomfortable we left. The problem is they do have nice things and it's a nice store to take your time looking around. (if he will let you). Their prices are a little higher for comparable items I found elsewhere. read more

My aunt recently spent 800$ on a few things in this store for my baby shower. The clothes aren't really my style and I wanted to purchase baby clothing elsewhere. My aunt has been going here for years no doubt spending a fortune. She gave me the receipt to return some items. She told me as long as i returned everything within 7 days they would give a cash refund as they have always done. The owner was completely rude. He refused to give me a refund. This store is awful. Incredibly over priced. The owner was horrible. He is the reason I refuse to shop there. He went into a rant about how I was making a horrible decision because I purchased furniture NOT from his store selection.
