I emailed them and received a response email within 24 hours, telling me how to get a replacement for the defective item (obviously, I didn't get knocked up at any point, so it wasn't a defective condom). I received the replacement and I have a new fave! As a patron, I feel the frustrations of bed death are being exercised on customers. And that is no good. I appreciate sex education but something is being taken too literal here. Even science class moved away from textbooks and insisted on labs for passing the class. At Babeland, I am not convinced that much moves beyond the lecture notes. It appears the passion has drained out of the toy chest. However, Babeland doesn't necessarily miss the mark. The staff are eager to discuss sex with strangers and offer genuine words of guidance. Workshops led by authoritative educators stop in town on a regular basis and share their words of experience and wisdom. Babeland is a good start for those just venturing out in sexuality exploration. The store succeeds at making shopping for paddles as common as shopping for tires, only less complicated. Maybe I look shifty and dildo-theifish, maybe they thought I was really, really, confused/stupid, but whatever the case, it was really off putting, and once I just left without buying anything, to return later when that staff person wasn't there. On an up note- I once bought this strange sort of Metrix-looking-robot-vibrating-finger-device-glove-thing there, and spent the rest of the evening chasing my friends around Capitol Hill with it on, screaming "It's Alive". I don't really know if that has anything to do with Babeland per se- except that they made me feel comfortable enough with my purchase to want to... share it... with the world. I have to write a review, if only to respond to the ridiculous claim that Babes in Toyland -- now "Babeland" -- is heterophobic. I first shopped there with my boyfriend, and made subsequent visits with different paramours. Babeland was terrific each time. They always welcomed us immediately upon entering the store, and then gave us the space to explore the store and the testers without embarrassment. One of my boyfriends was caught chatting up the lesbian staff member, who gave him a number of helpful hints! (Thank you, "J"!) The store has something for everyone, is woman-owned, and carries a range of products that support terrific causes. I can't say better things about Babeland. read more
