Got the super sized Philly steak and it was very good...it came with a couple of dipping sauces...one was hotter than the other...I put the hotter one on my steak and the other I used for fry dipping...The girl was friendly and provided good service....The problem I have with this place is the servings are tiny..I got the super size Philly and fries...I couldn't believe how small it was...After I ate it I was still hungry....I actually called to order another but by then the grill was turned off so I left still hungry...Never before have I eaten a steak hoagie and been hungry after. Good fried food. About any food that you can get fried can be purchased here: wings, fish, shrimp, chicken. Their menu is pretty large besides fried things: gyros, philly cheese, burgers, dogs, and italian beef. I had their five piece whiting fried with fries. I was surprised at the size of the fish. I should have got the three piece fried fish. They do not give you enough tarter sauce. I probably could has asked for more but ah well. The cole slaw was ok but they didn't give you much of that either. My daughter has the philly cheese. I tasted it and it was really good. It had a french dip sauce flavor to it. One of my favorite places in town. I found it when I worked next door at the dental place. Service is always nice. Staff is super sweet. I always get the spicy pork sub. I was out near New Haven and decided to stop by the State street Baba's for lunch. As I pulled up I had only one car ahead of me and it was at the pickup window. After placing my order I pulled up and waited. And waited. And waited!!! 30 minutes go by and finally the car ahead of me was loaded with, what looked like, a catering order. Bag after bag, and box after box. As I pulled to the window I was greeted with a total and a hand extended for payment. No apology. I asked if they could have people pull around for large orders. My goodness I cannot say enough about this restaurant. We eat there all of the time and we are always pleased. They sell just about everything you could desire in there and it's seasoned to perfection. I normally get wings & onion rings or a gyro and onion rings, but my family will get the fish. And if I had to complain it would be about the tatziki sauce. It does not taste like the tatziki sauce I am used to getting when I go to other gyro restaurants. However, even though it's different the food is still amazing. Just this past week I purchased a catfish dinner for my very, very picky elderly mother and she loved it. They bread it with cornmeal which she really liked and she said it was seasoned and fried perfectly. My mother is very selective about where she gets her fish from, but she is definitely a Baba's fangirl. LOL I will say that since the food is cooked to order, it is best to phone your order in or else you will be sitting in the line for a minute. But even if you have to wait 20 minutes, the food is just that good to make it worth the wait. I have never been inside, I normally go through the drive-through. This location has been under many different names for the last 10 years. So far this is the best. All meals are cooked to order. We've tried the fish, wings, italian beef, philly steak and gyros. The gyros are the only thing I didn't like. They use mayo instead of tatziki sauce. If you're concerned about dietary restrictions, note that all menu items are pork free. Even the pizza puffs. There is a dining room but most folks get take-out. There's also drive thru for late night munchies. Prices are reasonable for the portions. This was our first experience at Baba's. My mom had the perch sandwich and I had the Italian beef. We were referred to the restaurant when we were asking about a place close by that has good fish. She said that the Italian beef was the specialty so that's why I got that. Even though we were unable to eat our lunch right away it was still very good quality and very large portions.
