Ready when quoted. It's a nice place, open, a bit dark. Pretty limited menu, but they do what they do well. Sandwiches, mainly. I got a "hungry," pastrami and corned beef with accoutrements. Absolutely delicious. Good bread, great meat, tasty sauce, peppers, onions. Big, a bit messy, and excellent. I also got "sweet corn," expecting out of season corn on the cob, but it was corn nuggets. I was craving for a Rueben and I stumbled across Baba's on Yelp. Nice place with easy parking nearby. A good Rueben sandwich, very good fries and a fountain drink for $20, not bad. I would have given 5 stars if the Rueben had more meat on it; I thought it was slightly lacking on the corned beef. I'm still looking for a GREAT Rueben in Licking County. read more

Small location with only outdoor seating. Called in my order before arriving, it took about 20 mins. Ordered the cheesesteak and chicken cheesesteak salads. They were great! I've been looking for the best sandwich in Newark for a while. The Works is great and has a huge selection, and McKenna's has incredible (and incredibly huge) subs. But there's something different about Baba's. The restaraunt itself is a teensy DQ-style drive-through with picnic tables but no indoor seating. But it was a nice day, so I walked by to grab lunch. I had the single corned beef reuban and hush puppies. They give you the option to get double-meat, but even with the single, there was so much meat that it spilled out of the sides of the sandwich! I definitely ordered too much by getting both a sandwich and a side. The food itself is unreal. The hushpuppies are a classic recipe, and Baba's gets them just right. Crunchy but still soft, and packed with flavor. A coworker recommended getting the Baba Sauce, so I got a side for my hushpuppies. It's a take on Thousand Island dressing, but with some spices I couldn't quite recognize. Either way the sauce paired great with my side. I think Reubans are one of the trickiest sandwiches to get right. It's like the weirdest sandwich ever. I generally don't like any of the individual components by themselves, but somehow when you put them all together I can't get enough. But that means that every single component has a super distinct flavor, and if they aren't balanced properly, one flavor or another can dominate, or get totally lost in the rest. Baba's got the balance. I had no trouble finding each of the flavors, and they blend extremely well together. The corned beef really stands out though. It's high quality, cooked perfectly, and the seasoning is inspired. I'll be going back to Baba's. Probably more than is good for my health. read more

Wow! Philly Cheesesteak. I love the banana peppers they use over green pep. The fries are very good and unique. 1 Philly could feed 2 people but I personally love the size. This is a must try. Got hush puppies as well they were also wonder, I recommend Baba sauce for dipping. read more

Very nice casual restaurant in the heart of Newark. We had the Pastrami and Cheesesteak sandwiches, both were delicious and the guys had the large size which was packed with extra meat. First time trying and I will be back. I had Baba's Philly and it is one of the best cheesesteaks I've had in a long time. The regular size sandwich was huge and could feed two people, especially with an order of fries. Ordered it for carry out and it was ready in 15 minutes. When I told a friend we like cheesesteaks , he recommended Baba's, a very small place we'd seen several months ago but had not tried. We decided to split a pastrami and Swiss on rye; it was excellent, and enough for us both. The lean but juicy pastrami was piled high, the Swiss cheese was nicely melted, it also had mild grilled onions and a delicious mustard. The flavor combination seemed perfect. Stopped by for lunch today with a co-worker to check out this new place. Friendly service, delicious food, and a nice sitting area outside. Pricing is on the high side, but the food was great, I think we got what we paid for. A little bit of a wait as well, but it's made-to-order, so we expected that. She handed us our drinks while we waited and even offered a bottle opener to my co-worker who ordered his Coke in a glass bottle and then realized he couldn't open it. We took our food to-go, and by the time we got back to the office (not a long drive), the fries had become a little soggy. I think this is a result of the styrofoam to-go box though, not a preparation failure. Will be back for sure. read more
