Starting with super sweet and friendly customer service from Hagar. Jordan checks me in and was sweet too. Also want to shout out the maintenance guy Elijah. He was also cool, helpful and has the entire place immaculate. For my class, Philip was our instructor. He was really good. I'd do his class again. But I'm looking forward to returning and trying both other types of classes and instructors. Overall, I definitely recommend it for a great sweat. Parking is offered which is of course great here in Los Angeles.

The irony of them being in charge of a yoga business is not lost on me. As for any people thinking of joining this studio. You are and will be FINANCIAL PREY as long as you interact with this business. That said, the front desk staff and teachers and individual studio managers are amazing and deserve way more appreciation than they get, and maybe it's time for them to really think hard about that. The new people in corporate will lie, reneg on promises made, and make fraudulent charges with no hesitation in doing so. They agreed to a certain rate for my membership, and although it was never discussed or agreed upon, they downgraded my membership tier without ever disclosing it. I have emails that back this up. However, this isn't one instance. Since the new corporate team has moved in, I have had several charges added to my account that I didn't agree to, I've spoken to people who have experienced the same, and the corporate staff hide behind the people working at the front desk, leaving those workers to deal with clients angered about it because they are too cowardly to answer for their own actions. I cannot in good faith recommend this studio to anyone, and I've been a member since 2014 (which means nothing to them). The new corporate team came in only recently. I suggest everyone here vote with their dollars, which are becoming more and more precious in this economy. Stay conscious in who you offer your money to, and stay aligned with your personal integrity, because this studio has none, in my opinion.

The Studio: You walk up the stairs and immediately feel like you are in an urban sanctuary above the city. Friendly staff are present if you need anything. The Class/Teacher (Shiva Flow at 12:30 p.m.): After a morning job, slipping into this midday class was an absolute treat! Michelle May personally welcomed me, made sure I had a tour, brought blocks and a strap to my mat, and introduced herself before we began. We started in Easy Pose, where she opened with philosophy on tapas, the internal fire we step into to burn away what no longer serves. She guided us to notice the breath, then the mind, simply observing. Three collective Oms to connect the room. And then we were off...halfway through Sun B, I realized there was no music, just Michelle's voice and the sound of the room breathing together. It was that powerful. This was a strong, continuous flow with options for Crow, Flying Crow, Flying Splits, and creative transitions, such as Tree to Extended Standing Split and Half Moon to Warrior 3 and back again. Michelle continually reminded us to tap into the fire, breathe, and let go. It was that "non-stop, can't stop, don't want to stop, ahhhh, feels so good" kind of yoga. When we finally came down to the mat, she offered hands on adjustments. In reclined Eagle, she anchored my shoulder and gently guided my crossed knees toward the floor (serious Divine release!). We closed the same way we began, seated, noticing the breath, noticing the mind, three collective Oms. This class was FIRE, but conscious fire. The studio itself is stunning -- grounding, expansive, and filled with an energy that immediately invites presence and depth. Being surrounded by his collection of gongs and instruments created an atmosphere that felt both sacred and inspiring. Lou is a true gong master. His knowledge, passion, and reverence for the instrument are undeniable. Watching him play and learning directly from him ignited something powerful within me -- a deep desire to connect more fully with the gong and explore its potential. He teaches not just technique, but relationship -- how to listen, feel, and allow the instrument to speak. The experience inside his studio alone was worth it. Before you even finished with the class, the people in the class after you stampede their way in, and wait by your reformer while you're still actively working out! Waiting for you to vacate your reformer so they can hop in. It's so uncomfortable. It's like they're waiting by the door like The Walking Dead, and stumbled their way in to hover over you. Unfortunately, their use is very inconsistent, which is disappointing given that it's part of what sets this class apart. I recently attended after a long flight while dealing with a sinus infection, intentionally choosing this class because the stretching and eucalyptus towels are especially helpful for sinus relief. Once again, the towels were not distributed. I reached out to management afterward to share my feedback, and their response was extremely disappointing. I was told that I had been offered a towel in class and declined -- which is simply not true. This never happened. I don't appreciate being misrepresented, especially as a frequent client. Honesty and accountability matter. Poor customer service combined with dishonesty is unacceptable. I brought a friend with me to this class, and based on this experience, neither of us will be returning.

Edit: most positive reviews seem to be about yoga, which I was not aware happened at this location…read more It's a gym with no workout rooms, primarily devoted to personal training, so there may be some mix up. ** Negative parts of this are virtually all for Jason (the owner). I hope in sharing it'll help other people avoid what I experienced. With the exception of Jason, the trainers I worked with here are excellent overall. Devin has so much light in him, and his energy really holds up the corners of this place. I hope he finds a working situation that better supports and nurtures all he has to offer. Iman was great as well, but because this place is patriarchal and has deference to masculine baked in, there were instances in which I saw her feel the need to defer to Jason, which was symptomatic of outdated leadership approaches and an unhealthy work environment. The effects of that misogyny showed through other women there as well, particularly younger women who were in admin or nutrition (and in male-presenting clients with more fem energy). Didn't see it in the seasoned fem trainers. Russell is fun and knowledgable, but I overheard him shit-talking clients on more than one occasion. Matt is further down meathead spectrum, so there was more obliviousness/negligence showing through, but knowledgable about his work. But Jason was negligent outright . His behavior resulted in injury I'm still dealing with ~7 months later, and he wasn't mature or professional enough to simply take responsibility for what he'd done. I went here because I saw the Vanity Fair video that talked about how they help people clean up injuries. I have a back injury from like ~10 years ago that I really wanted to correct, and a more recent shoulder injury, and was very relieved to learn Rise could help. In maybe 3 months of 3ish sessions per week, my back injury seemed to be healed! I was ecstatic. ...but then I ended up with Jason as my trainer 3 times in one week. He was consistently late, eating/doing other stuff that made him distracted, had a kinda negligent vibe. Probably not the way he behaves when working with Jennifer Aniston or whoever, and not behavior I imagine he'd tolerate in a trainer he hired. That Monday, he pushed too hard with his hands when he had me doing a side plank, and it messed up my back again. Wednesday, when I had him as a trainer again, I told him about this. Friday he had "forgotten," so I had to tell him again. But the damage was done. My back was fucked up. Everybody messes up. It's not great when your preventable mistake comes from not being attentive/good at your job. It's worse when that mistake physically injures a human being...especially when those effects are long-lasting. If Jason could've acknowledged what happened and apologized for it, okay. But he kept "forgetting" about it. Then he tried to tell me that I wouldn't get better if I wasn't doing the exercises I did there every day at home....though 3 days a week at their location had gotten my back healthy before, and I had explicitly asked multiple trainers if 3 days a week of training there was a good amount. All said yes. Jason was trying to cover his ass and sidestep responsibility. He later tried to refer me to a back expert or something, acting like the cause of the re-injury was a mystery. So yeah, don't go to Jason. There's narcissism in him, and he may cause you months-long physical pain because he isn't paying attention, and then play it like he has no idea what he did even as you repeatedly speak up about the damage he caused.
