Edit: most positive reviews seem to be about yoga, which I was not aware happened at this location. It's a gym with no workout rooms, primarily devoted to personal training, so there may be some mix up. ** Negative parts of this are virtually all for Jason (the owner). I hope in sharing it'll help other people avoid what I experienced. With the exception of Jason, the trainers I worked with here are excellent overall. Devin has so much light in him, and his energy really holds up the corners of this place. I hope he finds a working situation that better supports and nurtures all he has to offer. Iman was great as well, but because this place is patriarchal and has deference to masculine baked in, there were instances in which I saw her feel the need to defer to Jason, which was symptomatic of outdated leadership approaches and an unhealthy work environment. The effects of that misogyny showed through other women there as well, particularly younger women who were in admin or nutrition (and in male-presenting clients with more fem energy). Didn't see it in the seasoned fem trainers. Russell is fun and knowledgable, but I overheard him shit-talking clients on more than one occasion. Matt is further down meathead spectrum, so there was more obliviousness/negligence showing through, but knowledgable about his work. But Jason was negligent outright . His behavior resulted in injury I'm still dealing with ~7 months later, and he wasn't mature or professional enough to simply take responsibility for what he'd done. I went here because I saw the Vanity Fair video that talked about how they help people clean up injuries. I have a back injury from like ~10 years ago that I really wanted to correct, and a more recent shoulder injury, and was very relieved to learn Rise could help. In maybe 3 months of 3ish sessions per week, my back injury seemed to be healed! I was ecstatic. ...but then I ended up with Jason as my trainer 3 times in one week. He was consistently late, eating/doing other stuff that made him distracted, had a kinda negligent vibe. Probably not the way he behaves when working with Jennifer Aniston or whoever, and not behavior I imagine he'd tolerate in a trainer he hired. That Monday, he pushed too hard with his hands when he had me doing a side plank, and it messed up my back again. Wednesday, when I had him as a trainer again, I told him about this. Friday he had "forgotten," so I had to tell him again. But the damage was done. My back was fucked up. Everybody messes up. It's not great when your preventable mistake comes from not being attentive/good at your job. It's worse when that mistake physically injures a human being...especially when those effects are long-lasting. If Jason could've acknowledged what happened and apologized for it, okay. But he kept "forgetting" about it. Then he tried to tell me that I wouldn't get better if I wasn't doing the exercises I did there every day at home....though 3 days a week at their location had gotten my back healthy before, and I had explicitly asked multiple trainers if 3 days a week of training there was a good amount. All said yes. Jason was trying to cover his ass and sidestep responsibility. He later tried to refer me to a back expert or something, acting like the cause of the re-injury was a mystery. So yeah, don't go to Jason. There's narcissism in him, and he may cause you months-long physical pain because he isn't paying attention, and then play it like he has no idea what he did even as you repeatedly speak up about the damage he caused. read more

Owner (Jason) aggressively approached me in parking lot when he did not like where I parked my. Let me know he wanted his client to park in that space. I had an appointment at the salon next door. Told him I was late and needed to let stylist know I was here and ask if they wanted me to move car or have one of their assistants do it. Went back outside to move my car. As I walked back into salon... he came back outside and said... "Good little girl," while clapping slowly. And followed with, "Go inside and get your hair fixed. Interesting that he seems to have a steady stream of clients coming in and out of his gym... As we are in the middle of a pandemic and gyms are still closed. read more

This is a review for yoga- 5 stars for Jacqui. I got in a great workout and was also completely relaxed by the end of class. The music was perfect and she gave a lot of adjustments. She adjusted all of our down dogs and was very helpful. 1 star for Arielle. She seemed to be getting out all of her personal anger in class and she was very harsh. She followed "if you can't do this pose---" with "you must not be able to balance anything in your life" or "you should just leave the room" or "that's bullshit." It was unnerving and a very uncomfortable class. read more

ARIELLE IS MY DREAM AND THAT IS THE TRUTH. I have been practicing yoga for over 12 years and I can honestly say that Arielle's style is the perfect blend of stretch, endurance, meaningful "yoga talk" and incredible music. Honestly, she is truly a fantastic yoga instructor. She teaches in the evening most nights and is so sincere and well educated I literally can't imagine wasting my time with anyone else at this point. Great for all levels, you will sweat, feel fantastic and no two classes are the same. read more

I am relative new to Yoga and in the past I have been scared off by instructors working the crowd without specific attention to the needs of the individual. I have lower back issues and found Claire as a teacher to be encouraging and extremely informative. She is able to work with all levels of students without changing the flow of the class. Claire was able to guide me through the class making adjustments to incorrect alignment so as to avoid any injuries I could get from unstable yoga positions. Claire is a awesome teacher that gave me such a positive experience that I have changed my mind about Yoga not being for me. The following few days I could feel the benefits of her class throughout my whole body. Go do this class you won't regret it! read more

Claire is such a wonderful Yoga instructor! I have traveled around the world and taken classes from many a teacher and straight away I know if I love the class by the energy and style of the teacher. Claire's Class not only gave me a great workout but also provided the calming escape from the craziness of being a super busy person wanting to unwind and relax. I felt like I was in a safe bubble in the studio with Claire guiding us, able to work on my own body and health without the chaos of over sized classes and any real attention to detail. Claire is very connected to her students while taking us through the flow she is able to easily work with correcting any misplaced positions. I felt like I was in great hands and enjoyed the environment, music, voice and pace that Claire sets at Rise Movement. I know how hard it is to get to a class when you are a busy person but this is the class you want to set time aside for ...you will come out feeling like you have dealt yourself a great gift with Claire as your teacher. Really reasonable monthly class packages. Give it a go! read more

I HATED yoga or the idea of yoga... BUT I LOVE THIS CLASS! Both Claire and Andrea are fantastic. Now this is my little retreat and sometimes my husband comes along. If you are looking for a challenging yet comfortable yogi experience come on in and stretch on out. read more

I'm curious as to how all of these reviews are about yoga classes and not personal training. I found rise movement thru rise nation. I was hearing great things about the methodology of training at RM so I tried to get some info. I emailed and asked what the cost of training at the studio was. They refused to commit to a price without an in person consultation. I asked for a ballpark (I belong to equinox but I'm no celebrity) and even that they refused. Instead they said I needed to come in for a "15 minute consultation." I didn't even need to wear gym clothes they said. Huh?! Why is this info you can't share on the phone? But- since I'm still interested in training even if this seems absurd I say fine. I can come in the morning before work. Oh no, they say, that's peak training time. Can you come at 11am? Um no, I work. I'm sorry but this is ridiculous. In what world are you communicating to interested clients that you give a s*** by being so difficult. And truly it feels like some sort of profiling. You either have a cost and availability or you don't. What difference does it make if I come in or talk on the phone? Ultimately I'm disappointed. Because in the end they made it discouraging and aggravating to set up a consult. I got tired of emailing back and forth. But seriously- what gives?! read more

As a former professional athlete, I've been around quite a few gyms and performance facilities. I've never been to one that has such pompous, nasty trainers. Walked in to check the place out with my (current) pro basketball friend, the door was wide open, and was greeted by a guy saying "wipe your feet" instead of as much as a hi. Then his boss starting demeaning him and screaming that "we are closed! Get out of here!" We were simply shocked. Not a fitness environment I would recommend to my worst enemy. Shame on you guys! read more

This studio is fab; everyone is friendly and inviting! Love the feel and the atmosphere. As a runner, weight lifter, and overall athlete I've always been afraid of yoga and at times, found it boring. BUT THEN I found Arielle! Her classes have inspired me -- She's one of the best, and probably THE BEST instructor ever! I love her confidence, energy, and innovative flows that have allowed me to expand my practice. I see myself transitioning into a stronger and more graceful athlete. Her classes have guided me to open up to another level of mind and body; i'm addicted and love seeing and feeling the results. Pretty sure I was in the class Tessa P. gave feedback on. Arielle DOES make life comparisons. She tells us that our practice will be different every day. (If we've had a stressful day at work, or a disagreement with a friend or partner; this might affect our bodies ability to be as flexible as we were yesterday... Maybe we wont be able to balance as easily as we should, as we might be having trouble balancing the things happening in our day-to-day life. Makes sense.) Arielle NEVER said anything was bullshit. She's not condescending EVER. I think the overall message went over Tessa's head and she took it some things out of context. Arielle's classes are hard and challenging, but she doesn't make you feel like you're not good enough. In fact, she closes her classes with that mantra: "You ARE enough." She gives modifications and encourages her students to listen to their bodies. I love her positive and welcoming vibe. I leave feeling grounded and balanced. The class is heated, but not too hot like Bikram. Gotta love the detoxifying elements of the practice and the space. One more thing: Arielle's music is legit. Great soundtrack every time. Can't really complain. Arielle is the best. Don't miss her class. read more

the yoga classes instructed by Claire are amazing!!!!! I always come out of her class feeling like a new person. Between her vigorous technique of vinyasa flow, hip music compilation, soothing aussie accent, and her ability to correct your positioning to make sure your pose is in correct form, she really makes the entire class worth while and enjoyable!! I highly recommend taking her classes, not only will you notice a change in your body but you will feel clear headed and calm walking out of this class :) I can guarantee if you try one of her sessions you will be coming back for more! read more

I just started doing yoga at Rise Movement and I love it! The classes are limited to ten people, which allows you to get personalized attention from the teacher and provides for a relaxing class environment. I have been to yoga classes with 20+ people and I definitely prefer a smaller class to a bigger one. The studio is part of a private training facility that is very tranquil and clean (and has nice bathroom products!). I attended Arielle's Wednesday night yoga class and loved it. The studio was heated but was not too hot, allowing my muscles to relax but not overheating my body. The class was an hour and fifteen minutes, which at first seemed daunting, but turned out to be the perfect amount of time, as it allowed me to get a great yoga workout while also taking time to mediate. Arielle knows what she is doing and was a great teacher. She demonstrated the movements to the class and urged us to do what was comfortable for our body, allowing both beginners and advanced students to benefit from her class. For some positions, she demonstrated ways to make the movements more intense, which allowed advanced students to practice their abilities, while giving beginner students something to work towards. She walked around the room to help students on their form, which was especially nice since class was small. Arielle was encouraging and knowledgeable about her practice and I left feeling stronger and more relaxed, knowing that I challenged my body in the best way. I would definitely recommend Arielle's class and Rise Movement for yoga! read more

5 stars for Arielle!! She is so amazing and really helped me. I have bad back problems and Arielle suggested ways I could modify positions. She was very understanding! Her voice was so calming and helped me relax. Her words of encouragement were so great. I love her positive vibes and energy! This class helped ease some of my back pain, which is what I've been looking for. I got a great night sleep, and the next morning I had less tension in my back! Arielle is so sweet and encouraging, I loved taking this class with her! She helped me relieve stress, let go of negative energy, and focus on getting healthy! Thank you so much Arielle!! Everyone should check out her classes! read more

Best yoga in LA! Andrea takes yoga to a whole new level making it challenging AND mind clearing. Her music is amazing, and she comes and stretches/massages you during the poses... Seriously?!?? Does not get better than that! read more

Last night I took Andreas class for the first time and there are no words how inspirational and transforming the class was. Best yoga class I ever took both mentally and physically. The only con is the parking really really sucks so make sure to arrive early so you can find a meter. read more

I took a yoga class here for the first time and loved it. It's a beautiful, clean space and Arielle was a fantastic instructor. I've taken a yoga-lates class with her at another studio, Hot Pilates, so I thought I would give her yoga class a try. By some weird fluke, I was the only person in class, so I had a private session. Arielle is encouraging, patient, kind, and best of all, just really good at her practice. At the end of class, she typically speaks a bit about our relationship with ourselves and how important it is to love and respect our bodies. And she always ends by saying, "You are more than enough," which always sticks with me even after I leave class. To sum it up: great studio, great class. And if you go, try to go to one of Arielle's classes. You won't be sorry. read more

5 stars for Erin's yoga classes! The studio is bright, clean and welcoming. You walk in and head to the back for yoga. The yoga room is a bit small and seems like an afterthought compared to the loft-like majority of the studio, but Erin totally makes up for it. She's super warm and welcoming and no two of her classes are the same. She's great at mixing it up - incorporating core exercises into a very soulful yoga practice. We do things I've never done in each class but the poses aren't impossible; Erin is great at giving direction and can help students get into almost any position. A few of the classes I've been to here have been smal (1-2 other people) but it's never awkward - in fact, it's been amazing to get so much of Erin's attention and time. read more

I LOVE Rise Movement Studio!! I've been coming here since 2011. Personal training with Jason & Lisa got me into the best shape of my life! They make working out fun! The routines are never the same and always pushes me to become stronger. They're very encouraging when it becomes too tough for me but always enough to push me further. By far the best trainers in town!! Yoga here is really amazing! I love coming here for yoga, especially after my workouts. Classes are nice and small so it's really personal and you definitely get the undivided attention of the teacher. I highly recommend Rise Movement Studio personal training and Yoga Classes. I've never done their boxing classes but have only heard wonderful things from fellow studio goers! This gym is like family to me. Everyone here are so friendly! read more

Andrea's yoga class is AMAZING! peaceful but challenging class. Can't wait to go back for more!

Beautiful studio with small personal classes. I love the personal attention, I felt like I was getting the most out of my time spent. By far the best yoga studio I have been to. I highly recommend Rise Movement studio! read more

Andrea's class is fantastic. Selfishly I hate writing this review because I don't need all of L.A. invading her class!

This is a really personalized yoga class in a small room (often with only 3-4 people), and as a result, I always get a lot of attention to how I'm doing my poses. And I am always improving because of it. Claire is super nice and knows her stuff, and makes every class a great challenge, with something new thrown in every time. And she plays great music. I have also taken a few classes here with Andrea and she is also excellent. I really couldn't recommend this place more highly. It's like a little oasis. read more

Arielle was SO awesome! I'm not very experienced in yoga and she made me feel completely comfortable. I really enjoyed the class and will definitely be back. read more

Best yoga classes in LA hands down!!!! I loved Andrea's class so much I'm addicted! I feel and look great thanks to Andrea. HIghly recommend. Best in LA! read more

Hands down the best yoga class in the city of Los Angeles. I am a relatively impatient person, and often times get frustrated with the yoga classes that are offered at places such as Yogaworks and Equinox. This is not the case at Claire's yoga class. These semi-private classes invigorate my spirit, body and soul! Each of the classes usually begin with a 45 minute flow, 15 minutes of abs and strength exercises, and finish with a relaxing stretch. Oh ya, how can I not mention the foot massage to the smell of sage, it's epic! This class is truly one of a kind, and there is nothing like it in the area. Claire does a fantastic job of running the class, and always seems to have a smile on her face. The room is also always at the perfect temperature, and I have never had the problem of getting other gross people's sweat on me. Namaste read more

I've been to several yoga studios in both NYC and Los Angeles and have found Claire Grieve's class at Rise Movement to be the absolute best by far. Class sizes are small and Claire goes above and beyond to make sure each student is doing all of the movements properly and makes adjustments when necessary. She also does an abs segment in her classes which is quite challenging. You get a full body workout and also the calming benefits of any good yoga class. Claire's warm personality makes everyone feel welcome no matter what level yogi one might be. If you buy a package the classes are very affordable ($15 for 1 hr and 15mins) and street parking is easily available and free after 6pm. I look forward to my Claire sessions every week! read more
