We had my son's rehearsal dinner here and I can not say enough good things about the experience and food. Leading up to the event the communication was exceptional. We arrived and everything was set up for our group of 25 to have plenty of space. They served us family style and offered a wide variety of appetizers and meats. The flavors and quality of the food is delicious. This is the best Mediterranean food I've ever eaten. All of the meats were flavorful and tender. The hummus was smooth and creamy. The appetizers were amazing. They created a special desert just for our event. It was delicious as well. We finished the night off with Turkish coffee and tea poured table side. The food and service exceeded our expectations. My only complaint is that we don't live near enough to eat here weekly. If you're looking for a great meal, give them a try. Baba Ali Grill is a new Mediterranean restaurant in Murrieta. The food was fresh and flavorful. Food: hummus with chicken was almost a meal by itself--delicious hummus topped with chicken shawarma. Chicken tawook was tender and juicy and came with fluffy rice. Lentil soup was piping hot and just a tad spicy. It use to be J Carver for years. The place is revamped with lots of windows and lighting. What a difference! It's bright and inviting. There are many booths, long tables for bigger groups, and a few chairs for bar seating. Does anyone else do this; go back a second time just to see if the first meal was just luck? I admit, sometimes I do. Our second meal at Baba Ali was just as great as the first. We wanted a lighter dinner so we ordered appetizers to share: beef kibbeh, falafel, hummus, garlic and potato dip which came with bread. The falafel came with a little salad on the plate as well as a yogurt dipping sauce. Everything was excellent and they just might have the best hummus we've ever tasted. So smooth and creamy and seasoned just right. We'd never had the Muthawama, made with garlic, potato and lemon, which is pureed to a smooth consistency and we are big fans now! Service was good, food came quickly since apps usually take less time to prepare. It's not just pure luck our first meal was so good, this place is the real deal. read more

Tried this new Mediterranean restaurant in our area. Looked at the Yelp reviews and decided to take a chance by eating inside the restaurant. Restaurant was beautiful inside according to a Yelp review it used to be a different restaurant so that would make sense. We were met almost immediately once we walked in. They sat us at a booth and gave us a little bit of time to look at the menu. Asked our server what they recommended since this was our first time here. Settled on the half a chicken platter that came with rycus, hummus and garlic paste. Ordered appetizers- a plate of pickles and turnips, hummus, and a dip that was made of garlic and potatoes. All the food was very yummy and tasty. We were told that the chicken platter would take 30 minutes. So they brought out the appetizers first for us to enjoy, and when I questioned what they had been bringing to other tables which looked like a little sampler platter, our server was kind enough to give us one as well- she informed me that if you don't order an appetizer, they provide you with this little sampler of baba ghanoush, olives, pickled peppers, and a Persian tomato salsa. All the food was really first rate. Exactly 30 minutes later we received this amazingly beautiful chicken platter with basmati rice, a huge portion -equal to the appetizer size- of hummus and a lovely side of garlic paste to go with it When we originally ordered, we asked how big the side of hummus was and was told that it was a relatively smaller size definitely smaller than the appetizer. That was not the case and our recommendation for anyone next time is to not order an appetizer of hummus, but to just use the side of the hummus that came with it. The portions were generous. We got there as fast as we could from Temecula to Murrieta at 11:55am. A LINE formed but, it was not as long as we thought it would be. Food was amazing. Lady at the market next door, recommended I tried the Mansaf, since they don't make it often but they are today and it's not on the menu, but they said it wouldn't be ready till later. So I decided to try their lamb chops and hummus. So glad I did! Everything was delicious. I did come back several hours later to get the Mansaf and it was so worth it! I'm addicted to this dish. So much food for the price and I got it all to myself since no one in my family eats lamb but me. The lady working was very kind and friendly. The place was pretty spacious and nicely decorated. Last night was our first time dining at Baba Ali. I love Mediterranean food, so I was so excited to have a new place in town. The restaurant is where J. Carter's Tavern Grill use to be. It pretty much looks the same inside, aside from a few minor decorative items. When we arrived, we stood there for several minutes before being acknowledged. We were directed to a table, but we asked if there was a booth available. We were told that it had to be cleaned, but they would move us there once it was ready. That took 10 minutes. Service was very slow. After we were moved and had placed our order, it took over 20 minutes to get our food. We had been there about 35 minutes before we were served. I ordered the chicken tawook, Our server was friendly, but seemed to have no urgency in getting to us. As far as the food, my chicken was very good, but they give you a ton of rice, which I don't mind, except that it was pretty bland. The best part of the meal, in my opinion, was the hummus. I think this place has potential to be good, but I think I will wait a while in hopes that they work out the kinks before I give them another try. read more

She was warm and welcoming and allowed us to choose a table (versus a booth). We sat down and looked over the menu. We already knew we wanted the Hummus with Meat to start. Our server was Ranzy and when she greeted us, we felt like family. After brief introductions, we decided to start with the Hummus with Beef and an order of their Falafel. These items arrived quickly and looked perfect! These were accompanied with a basket of fresh pita bread. Soft and delicious, the pita was an excellent vessel to transport the Hummus and beef to our mouths Ranzy brought us a complimentary order of their fattoush! This was a highlight because of the bright fresh taste from the first bite to the last!! Fresh garden salad, tomato, scallion, cucumber, radish, sumac, lemon, pomegranate molasses. My wife ordered a mint yogurt drink. Usually we call it "doog" but Ranzy informed us that the Iraqis call it "shanina" or "aryan". It's her favorite! I ordered a Rieme French blood orange sparkling water. Tasty! For our entree, we ordered a Chef's Mixed Grill Combo Plate (for two)! So amazing! Arrived on a huge platter with Biriyani rice, grilled vegetables, and three skewers of meat: lamb, beef & chicken kebabs. There was so much food leftover! Portions are generous and tasted amazing! Phenomenal food and service! We came in on a Saturday around 4:00 and they had a huge party. Our waitress let us know right away that it would be a slightly longer wait and brought us out hummus and pita. (Both delicious) The chicken kabob is perfectly cooked, seasoned well and still juicy. Their rice is simple and delicious. We always get a side of sumac and add extra. The Kebob sandwich was delicious with the garlic paste and hot sauce. Get yourself one of their hot teas after your meal, you won't regret it. They have a grocery store next door with a butcher and a bakery. Prices are more than reasonable. I went here with my family for the first time and was greeted and seated immediately. The server was very friendly and knew the menu very well and made some great suggestions and took our orders. Once the food arrived it was all amazing one better than the other. We loved the hummus and bread which we ordered for appetizers. The kebabs just melted in the mouth. The rice was very well cooked and everything was so well seasoned especially being from the region I know when food is well seasoned throughly and not just sprinkled on top. The only one important thing I wanted to comment is when I got the check, I paid for it with a card, but I wasn't given a receipt (not the meal nor transaction receipts). I felt kind of odd so I took a screenshot of the charge before I left the restaurant. And today, April 7, I noticed the amount was over-charged to my card account. I have it disputed with my bank. You don't have to get past the hummus and Baba Ganoush to realize this food is authentic but, when you do get to the main course, it definitely doesn't disappoint. The place is new and they're figuring out the process so the lovely folks that work there may take a beat to get you sorted but it's worth the wait.
