Before scheduling a cyst removal procedure, I specifically asked whether it would be covered by my insurance. I was told the office would verify my benefits and let me know before scheduling if there were any issues. I later received a call stating that it was covered, so I moved forward with the procedure. Instead, I was surprised with an approximately $800 bill because the charges were applied to my deductible. At no point was I provided with an estimate of my financial responsibility or told that "covered by insurance" could still mean I would owe hundreds of dollars out of pocket. When I contacted both Frontier Dermatology and my insurance company, neither was able to resolve the issue, and my insurance representative even stated that the provider should have explained the deductible before the procedure. Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of my experience. During my follow-up appointment to have the stitches removed, the provider commented several times that she was having difficulty removing them. Before leaving, I specifically asked whether everything had been removed, and I was told, "I'm pretty sure I got it all." One area never healed correctly. I returned to the office because I believed a stitch had been left behind. After examining the area, including having a physician take a look, I was told they couldn't find anything and that it might just be an irritated hair follicle. Several months later, the same piece of stich finally worked its way to the surface. I scheduled another appointment--this time at a sister location because my regular office couldn't get me in promptly. When I arrived, I learned my appointment had been changed from a nurse practitioner to a physician without notifying me beforehand, and I was required to pay a $60 copay. The physician immediately confirmed what I had suspected all along: a stitch had, in fact, been left behind from the original stitch removal and removed it during that visit which I was told I wouldn't be charged for, yet months later I'm paying for their mistake. I don't believe patients should be charged to correct a complication caused by incomplete follow-up care, especially after raising the concern months earlier. I filed a formal complaint with Frontier Dermatology requesting a review of the situation, a refund of the copay for the corrective visit, and assurance that I would not receive additional charges related to removing the retained stitch. Staff assured me someone would get back to me quickly. It has now been more than a week, and I have not received a phone call, an email, or any acknowledgment of my complaint. Mistakes can happen in any medical practice. What matters is how those mistakes are handled. My frustration comes not only from the billing issues and the retained stitch, but also from the lack of communication and accountability afterward. Make sure you have them sit down with you to review costs, insurance coverage before agreeing to any procedure or you'll be in for an unwelcome surprise!

I have never heard of a consult fee not going towards the actual appointment and needing to come on a completely different day to get basic neurotoxin, which takes all of 10 minutes max. The initial consultation included an extensive discussion about my symptoms and explanation of factors that would contribute to them. Other chiros I have been to in the past had an "assembly line" feel where they did minimal interaction and discussion with their patients and then did 1-2 quick adjustments and then sent you on your way. So, I was impressed with the care and time he devoted to educating me on how to improve my condition and prevent further aggravation. Note: Because of the time it takes, I do not recommend scheduling this extensive first time consultation if you are in a hurry or already have a severe headache. The adjustment portion of my visit is why I selected 5 stars. He did not just do a 1-2 adjustments, but did over 8 adjustments -- to my neck, my back, my hips and even my legs. I'd never had such a thorough adjusting before and never walked out of a chiro with so much relief. During my first visit at a DIFFERENT chiro (that I went to prior to Dr Sather), the chiro cheerfully said "It looks like I am going to be seeing a LOT of you here!" after just a few minutes into our first appointment. I never went back. Who wants to go to a chiro who is content with having you pay for tons of visits with seemingly no concern for the financial and time impact on their patients? So, I was surprised when Dr Sather ended our visit by giving me a printout with diagrams of stretches that I could do at home, as well as a recommendation for a brace that I could wear during my recovery to help reduce future strain and to lessen the amount of future trips I would need to make to a chiro. I then went to see Dr. Lichtenberger and he explained to me that I didn't need to undergo unnecessary procedures to get what I was looking for. Instead, he felt that I could attain a natural look and that's exactly what he did for me at a reasonable cost. The office staff at Life Aesthetic Center, including Erin, Debbie and Dana, made me feel so much at home and so comfortable while undergoing the initial consultation, the preoperative appointment and finally the procedure and follow-up appointments, putting me at ease with lots of great information. Dr. Lichtenberger is one of the most sincere, patient and truly caring people I have ever met. He is an outstanding listener, and I never felt like I was asking a stupid question. Despite my nervousness prior to the procedures, he said that was normal and on the day of my procedures, he put me at ease the entire time.
