I like this place…read more If you have visited Japan & Korea etc and have been missing the atmosphere of a ramen shop, this will suit you perfectly. It does a very good deal on a 'stop the clock' idea, which means you can sit and eat for two hours, from the moment of your first order. The cost is £15.80 which can't be bad. Personally I recommend the Bulgogi, thin sliced BBQ steak. Ushikata! I have hesitated in recommending Teppan Oriental because its very appeal is that all the customers are apparently Korean, Japanese or Chinese and this adds to the atmosphere...

Dishes are often cooked at the diner's table on metal grills that are built into the center of the table where diners can enjoy doing there own grilling/bbq at the dinner table. The Chinese Hot Pot also known as Shabu Shabu in Japan, and in Singapore and Malaysia the Steamboat. Like fondue but replaced with a simmering metal pot of stock at the centre of the table where diners place their ingredients into the pot to cook. The cooked food is usually eaten with a variety of dipping sauces. Typical Hot Pot dishes include thinly sliced meat, vegetables, dumplings and seafood. Here in Teppan we have a vast choice of ingredients, dipping sauces and stock.

It was probably way I went. Looking for surly spices going around burning people and collecting ASBO's sounded like a good night out if I'm being honest. Much to my dismay it was far more civilised than that and found it to be a Thai restaurant too. I like Thai as I'm newish to it and am still finding myself ordering whatever looks good rather than going for a usual dish I like. Beef with hot thai bean sauce was my weapon of choice and I wasn't disappointed. There was a small Spicy riot in my mouth, but nothing I couldn't handle and found it very tasty indeed. The staff were polite and served as well, nothing out of the blue though. It did take a little longer than I would of liked but that may of been due to the large number of bodies that were taking up my air and my time, so it was understandable.

The interior is modern and very well furnished. Not a typical, authentic setting for this kind of cuisine, it's still pleasant enough and certainly kept clean and in good condition. The staff here are friendly enough, although given the nature of buffet dining, there's pretty much very little they have to do. Staff are keen to offer refills on drinks, but this isn't entirely innocent. With the quite cheap prices on buffet food, the drinks are a little bit more expensive and carry a bit of a premium. The food is pretty average. That's an honest opinion. Really don't think it's anything to write home about, and i'd hardly call it authentic and flavoursome. The poor quality of the food is detrimental to the whole experience quite significantly. After all, you do go out to eat the food, not take in the surroundings.

The staff are always keen to please and always want to hear that you've enjoyed your experience. The restaurant is always so clean, it's very welcoming. But the popularity of this restaurant means that it does get busy! I would recommend booking a table if you're planning to visit in the evening. The drinks are a bit on the pricey side, but with food of this quality, you can live with that. They also offer a takeaway service, but I have never tried that.

I remembered the wonderful deal I had taken advantage of on a mid week 'Custom Plate' Chinese Banquet at the Shanghai in Gloucester. I took my relatives there some years before and found their system quite unique and very pleasantly memorable. Finding myself once again in their locale I was keen to see if the standard had remained as high. Welcome and service was first class. Indeed the choices were equally as good as before and a very comprehensive table service menu meant there was something for all tastes. The rule seemed to be the same that you could order any dishes or side plates you wanted, the only condition was that any significant left-overs could be charged back at full menu price (on top of the fixed buffet tariff). A crispy duck starter and several noodle and rice dishes were the order of the day. Each one as wonderful as the previous and it really did seem that we had struck gold in terms of our choice of venue. For approx £13 a head (I suspect slightly more at busy weekends), the value and quality more than matched the variety of choices. There were not many empty tables and the atmosphere was pleasantly vibrant. If I have one slight criticism to level it would merely be that the very open plan arrangement of before seems to have been slightly modified to now include a policy of not being able to revert to starter items later on during the service. To me this flexibility was one of the beauties of the former visit and to be fair when I questioned this I was actually courteously allowed to order as I wished. I may suggest that somehow this now needs to be made clearer or better still, left as relaxed as before. There was no pressure to keep re-filling the glasses but due to the length of time we were in the Shanghai, we did sample a small selection of their fine wines and beers. I guess I won't leave it so long next time.

Despite this, recently I was dragged along with a bunch of friends for a meal here, and clearing away my preformed judgements about the place, I was actually fairly pleasantly surprised. Their obvious selling feature is the quirkiness of having many different cuisines under one roof - and it's kind of pleasant to not be confined to one style for once. However, being a jack of all trades also means they're not amazing at any of them - but the cheap prices perhaps make up for that. Although I was entertained by the experience I wasn't won over, and the poor service didn't help.

A hearty menu, hearty portions, and hearty bar staff (doesn't the word hearty sound a bit odd now?). In other words this place isn't overly up market and they aren't afraid to be friendly and offer decently sized portions. They don't let themselves be constricted to one continent, let alone one country here, with Mexican, Inidan, and Chinese amongst the extensive range of cuisines available. This obviously means it isn't quite as authentic as going somewhere spealist, but they're never too wide of the mark. If you are looking for the real deal then perhaps head somewhere else. Flavourz (I think they let themselves down with the name a bit) offers a taste education in a friendly setting, and with big portions.

It was set about 15-min from the A6 but wow was it worth the detour! They have a massive menu with foods from all over east Asia. We decided to share a starter of salt & pepper short ribs. The husb opted for Singapore noodles (his favorite) and I was going to order spicy combination noodle soup but was recommended to try the Spicy Tom Yum Noodle Soup the was on the specials board. I love tom yum so it was a no-brainer to take the recommendation. The short ribs were delicious. Perfectly fried so they were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and they were covered in a delectable salt, pepper, garlic, and onion topping. (chef's kiss) The Singapore Noodles were a healthy portion and OMG the meat was SO TENDER. Sorry for yelling, but I needed to make sure everyone understood. Sometimes meat can be overcooked slightly and a little chewy, but they have perfected the art of meat here! The Spicy Tom Yum Noodle Soup was brimming with ingredients and was massive! The combination is their house mix of meats and seafood. Again, the meat was INCREDIBLY TENDER! The seafood was plentiful and also cooked to perfection. I was able to stop myself from stuffing it all into my face so I could wrap up a third of it for future me. I found both dishes to be decently spicy and the server let me know that both were level 1 spicy so I'll definitely kick it up a notch next time I'm back. I think the husb will happily stay at level 1 . The chefs come from Hong Kong and we gave our compliments to the chef over the short wall separating the kitchen from the dining area. This place is now a must-stop for us when we drive from London to the North and it should be for you too!

Asian fusion? Chinese crossed with Japanese and a side of vietnamese?…read more It's a bit hard to pin point the exact origins making up Wofon, but that's what makes it such an exciting treat. There are three steps when ordering -- choosing your noodles (or rice), topping and sauce. Noodles vary from the traditional Japanese ramen (wheat noodles), Udon (thicker wheat noodles), or perhaps a classic Chiense Dan Meen (egg wheat noodles). The toppings selection varies with Wofon special (selection of meats, prawn, roast pork), mixed seafood, or roast duck, for example. And lastly, the sauces. Selection can be Chinese Szechuan spicy, curry, or Japanese teriyaki. What I love about Wofon (aside from their amazing cheap prices) is that there is such a plethora of selection choices. You can order soup noodles one day, mixing noodles another, mixing rice, or wok fried rice. The selections are completely endless! I also strongly recommend the spare ribs with barbecued sauce as a starter. And the banana with vanilla ice cream as a dessert. And for £2.50, you can't beat the price. Enjoy!
