Needless to say, we were nervous as heck! However, Sal Sanchez and his team made our dreams become a reality and made it a breeze. Our new house was built in 2005, so it certainly had that weird "closed-off" style with very separated rooms. Of course we wanted something with a big, open living/dining/kitchen space with several updates. We had two walls taken down, an island built in, countertops changed, and all of the floors taken up and replaced with stained concrete... you know, just a couple of things! Oh, AND we had about 3-4 weeks from closing to vacate our rental back in Dallas. From the very beginning, Sal totally understood what we wanted and needed, even down to the details that we didn't know we wanted (like a push button garbage disposal). When the process finally began, he made sure to keep us up to date on all of the important stuff. If something were to stray from plan, like the sink we really wanted not fitting in the cabinets we had, Sal made sure to come up with solid solutions before bringing us the issue. Capital City Tradesmen really made our dream open space kitchen a reality! (And in a timely manner!) Sal gave us price and time quotes that were still both spot on in the end, even with several changes and a few hold ups. Having a few friends with home renovation horror stories, we feel like we seriously hit the jackpot with these guys. Not only are they professional and create amazing spaces, but they all seem to have an eye for detail in whatever their expertise may be. On top of all this, our AC went out for two weeks! Sal quickly came out to take a look at our unit to see if it was something he could tackle (it ended up being a whole unit replacement situation). He was also kind enough to immediately offer up his personal Swamp Fan from his home to get us through that heat. If I could give zero stars I would. They were months late on our project and did an awful job. He laminate they used is peeling all over the studio. They used a cheap adhesive and less than a year in we have had to bring them in multiple times. They were very slow to respond when we kept telling them about the issues. Furthermore, Dave's attention to detail and creativity exceeded my expectations. For the dartboard, Dave incorporated a bunch of wine corks we had been saving in a starburst pattern to create a work of art. The little touches on the bar rail like custom corbels, grain matching mitered cuts, matching the stain color to our stairs' handrail, scribing the rail to the (imperfect) wall and adding 3/8" notches to the rail to keep the pool cues from falling over left me a very satisfied customer. Consistent with our previous experiences, Julian and Celso were great. There was a soft spot in the floor of our small bathroom in our pier and beam house. The soft spot turned out to be rotten wood, and the entire floor had to be ripped out. The subfloor was replaced and reinforced. The entire floor was replaced, new shower pan installed, glass removed and reinstalled, some new shower tile, etc. Julian and Celso went above and beyond to help make this project as easy as possible for us while managing costs. Castle Flooring is our go-to for any future flooring needs we may have.

We worked with local, family-owned CG&S on an exterior renovation - updating our 1940s home to…read moreCraftsman style. Our home had no original details, but did have a lot of the original exterior materials. The team had to meticulously remove our particle board siding in sections and reseal as there were no exterior walls/wrap and our insulation was just under the siding; shim the roof level while regarding interior drywall as we don't have attic space; shim walls to align with varying depths of windows hung by another company; re-run electrical; and then add wood siding, two new decks with detailed craftsman woodwork, a custom front door, and other finishes. Working on our older home was harder than starting fresh and they handled it with care. Handling permitting was also in their remit and we were glad it was. Our architect handled forms for historical buildings/neighborhoods, city arborists, easements, and other zoning debacles. When we were limited by the city's requirements for expanding our porch, our architect adjusted our plans as best she could to still have a beautiful outcome. We also appreciated most of the subcontractors selected for the job. While the budget was hard to talk about up front, we didn't have any change orders due to surprises - unlike our interior reno project. With any long term renovation project it was important to stay in communication, keep notes, and ask questions and most stressful moments were quickly addressed by the team. The CG&S owners still invite us to their annual tamale dinner and treat us like family. We hope to do another project with them some day!
