As a result, I have a fair amount of automotive knowledge and can tell when I am being scammed or upsold. NEVER has this happened at this Green and Ross location. Time and time again I have fed them low hanging fruit and they've been as honest as they come. Their repair quotes are reasonable, they will not try to upsell you or tell you that something is wrong when it isn't. This is a complete anomaly in the automotive industry. The staff are courteous and will go out of their way to make your experience a good one. Finding a good mechanic is like finding a pot of gold. I HIGHLY recommend taking your car to this location.

I would say they're honest when it comes to actually letting you know what you actually need and prices are fair here. I haven't had the experience of feeling like they were trying to upsell or add more work just to make more money like other places will do. They are actually quite the opposite. They'll take a look and update you and tell you exactly what's going on, and that transparency is something to be respected. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking.

But every time I'd take it to one of the local shops on Newkirk or Yonge, it would either be too expensive, or they'd try to sell you something you don't need, or they would mess something up. A friend recommended Essy so I gave them try. One obvious advantage was that it was very close to my house. Overall, my experience was positive so I've taken both of my cars there since, multiple times. To summarize my experience and to prepare you for what to expect, here are a few bullets: - The place is called "Auto Sales and Service". I don't know how big their "sales" component is but probably not very. There are some used cars in the lot that are available for sale. And there was a younger guy sitting in the office one time I came in. He gave me his business card of a car sales person and I've never seen him since. - On slow days, Essy is in the shop by himself. When it gets busier, there are a two or three other mechanics helping him out. I think they had three car lifts, which is pretty good for small shop like them. - He doesn't just tell you what the problem is, like other guys do. He invites you into the shop and shows it to you. I like that (you may or may not.) - He sometimes will give you several options to pick from, eg a part from scrapyard vs new, or the one made in China vs in North America and let's you make a decision. - Not sure what his hourly rate it but not once did I feel that I was being taken advantage of. Again, it's hard to know if he's marking up the parts or not but I can tell you his bills have been less than what I'd expect to pay elsewhere.
