She was very honest and open in saying we weren't going to get there in one cut due to previous cut at another salon. I knew going in it was going to be a process to get the hairstyle that I wanted given the condition of my hair. I was pleasantly surprised at the foot stools to make your dryer time and hair wash more comfortable. From my initial call to the salon through the entire process, everything was pleasant, relaxing, explained thoroughly, and ended well! Each individual has unique hair that responds and behaves in a unique manner . It takes time for a stylist to learn your growth rate of hair and the quirks of your hair. It is literally a process, that requires patience and the building of the relationship. If you're going in for a color, the initial cost, depending on the condition of your hair, may be more because more work and product may be needed. Regular maintenance reduces that issue for most. So, additional costs for extra product was not a problem. I now have the baseline to get my hair where I want it to be. I had a wonderful experience, a very peaceful and relaxing experience. I look forward to my next visit and working with Sarah and Hannah to get the dream hairstyle.

I called a few months ago to make an appointment for an updo and told the receptionist that my hair…read moreis fairly long and that my only requirement was that it be quick & easy to let down at the reception.  I was thinking a hair clip or barrette with few, if any, bobby pins.  She said that Tess is the only person who does updos there, and she's really, really good!  I sent my ideas to Tess as well in subsequent texts.  I arrived for my appointment with about 6 or 7 different clips and barrettes for her to choose from that I had purchased to match my gown.  She asked if I wanted the updo on top or in the back of my head.  I told her "on top".  (What's the point in an updo if you can't see it?) She never touched any of the clips I brought, and I could not see the updo AT ALL when I looked in a mirror.  She put it in the back of my head despite what I said. Since time was of the essence, I couldn't have her redo it. Additionally, she cut a couple pieces of hair that were sticking out. It took my husband a good 10 minutes to pull all the bobby pins out of my hair at the reception.  I wish I had counted them, but I'd guess there were between 20 and 30 of them. For the amount of money I was charged, I expected her to at least attempt what I had asked for.  Such a disappointment.  I'll never go there again. LISTEN TO YOUR CLIENTS!

Stephanie did my cut and color and put all of my fears to rest. She's incredibly sweet and easy to talk to. She was super patient with my indecisiveness and helped me find a happy median for what I wanted. My color looks absolutely gorgeous and the price was very reasonable. I've paid ridiculous amounts in Raleigh before and gone to some snobby places. I'm so thankful I found such a cool place to go that's not pretentious. Everyone was very talented. I saw Nicole for a Brazilian treatment and highlights/cut. I'd used boxed dye (gasp!) twice but she was able to point out the issues and told me the best, lease invasive way to make my hair look and feel healthy. I made an appointment on October 23, 3025. I spent over 30 minutes on the phone going over the appointment- who was coming and what I needed. Not to mention my children have been clients at Modern since November 2024. When I arrived my appointment I was informed Hannah S doesn't honor kids rates. I replied that I'd had this appointment since October and this didn't seem like a problem for me to solve. She "agreed" to take my kids. She first took my 6 year old. I told her she needed a good trim to get off all the dead ends as she hadn't had a cut in a long time. She cut so little I could not even see hair on the floor. I asked (trying to be polite) if she thought she took enough. From wash to blow dry the cut took 25 minutes (someone else did the wash). She then took my 10 year old. She spent the appointment interrogating my 10 year old about her age and then had the nerve to tell her that the records were wrong. I went back during her hair cut -- if she had any questions -- those were for me the parent. My daughter said outside of asking about her age and incorrect records she didn't say a word to her otherwise. Again - my child has been a client at this salon for over one year - if they don't have correct records that's on Modern -- not me (or a 10 year old kid). At check out Hannah was pleasant and directed me to someone in my "price range." I still paid 45 bucks for hair cut that hardly even occurred. Really stellar customer service -- nice work Modern.

Please note it's a full head (shoulder length) foil bleach/toner highlight lifting 4 levels. I received same service but made darker and copper toner. My one request was not to go out orange. Guess what color I was given. Cost was higher than originally quoted. This doesn't cover the lack of check ins or offering any beverages which was offered to others.
