It's hard to find words to describe this company other than predatory or extortionists. I was getting an inground pool put in and requested an estimate for the electrical. I did need it on a relatively tight timeline. Specifically, I needed bonding and grounding for the pool, wiring of 1 light, 120v auxiliary outlets by the pool, pool heater, pool pump, and salt water system. I suggested putting an outdoor sub panel in by all the equipment (immediately next to the house with an easy run to the main panel in an unfinished basement) to simplify the job. The trenches were all already dug by the pool company so there was no digging involved. For the job, they wanted nearly $16,000. I honestly thought it was a typo at first and that they maybe put an extra 1 at the beginning by accident. This quote made no sense. I called to check in and they confirmed that indeed, the cost was nearly $16,000. I ended up doing the job myself for under $1,500 in materials and about 2 days work. I have absolutely no idea where they came up with that number. When the electrical inspector came out to check my work he almost threw up when I told him what was quoted. Disgusting. I had a quick visit from B and K this morning. They were here to install three light fixtures and charged a reasonable price. After they took down two of the fixtures I realized the ones they were putting in were too large. They brought this to my attention saving me a lot of heartache. Furthermore, after spending an hour at my house they reinstalled my old light fixtures and didn't charge me anything. They realized the mistake and didn't hold it against us. Then they came back a few minutes later and cleaned the entire area they worked. When we get the right ones ill definitely be calling them back!!! read more

I had B&K come out to give us a quote on some work we needed done prior to selling our home. We decided to go with them (time was of the essence) and provided a $200 check as a deposit. My realtor said their price was too high and referred us to another electrician. The other electrician came out promptly and quoted us a price several hundred dollars less. I called B&K, canceled the work, and asked them to rip up the check. I was very surprised two weeks later when I saw that they had deposited the check. I called to inquire about the issue. I spoke to a woman who said she would have someone, who I assume is the owner, call me back. He was courteous but did not apologize for the mixup. I explained that my account had been overdrawn because they cashed this check. I received a $200 check from him quickly, but the fact that he did not even apologize bothered me. read more

Except B&K they called me within 1 hour after i left a message made the appointment the service tech showed up right at the hour of the appointment. Great company. Obviously managent hires quality employees...Masks, distancing, etc. Cam and Brian showed up on time. They inspected and gave us a detailed estimate before proceeding. Spoke with receptionist Pat on the phone for nearly 20 minutes about what's involved with swapping out and replacing a bathroom ceiling fan. I was quoted an estimate of $195. I said okay, that's considerable to quotes I've already had and set up an appointment to complete the work on a Saturday morning. The tech, Ryan calls me before arriving to tell me he's on the way and he asks me what kind of work I need done. I went over everything again, "I need a bathroom fan swapped out, it needs an inch cut in the ceiling for the new replacement". He came by with Cameron and looked everything over and asked me "ok, what did she tell you this was going to cost?" I started thinking this was going to go wrong right away. I said, "she said it's $195". He looks at me straight faced and just says, "No, not at all". He tells me it's going to be anywhere from $400-$450. I said to get the f out of my house and he got upset and said don't get mad at me. I said, "I am mad, I wouldn't have you step foot in my house for that price, and you come for quoted work and upcharge it to over double the cost of what it takes"? I even said to him, this is an hours worth of work, what do you charge by the hour? He ignored the question but said yea it's an hour of work, that's what it's going to be though. I told Ryan that's a rip off for the most part and I would've never went to them for that and that's outrageous for any electrician and told him to get out and move on to the next client. He actually kinda didn't know what to do it seemed and stood around and said they would talk to the receptionist about pricing for the future. Regardless, that price alone and service of how he didn't know what he was coming over for, and then to upcharge a client before the work, that alone wouldn't get me to goto them... Perhaps their electrical work is well done, however, their policies are less than to be desired. I was quoted a price of $399 just to check a job and then another $15 was added on to that fee just to come here. That amount was never mentioned in their original statement. I wasn't interested in the high price ticket they quoted to me and have since found out that the highest option isnt even required. When I brought up this issue, it was dismissed. Very pleased with the service. When the circuit breaker didn't fix our problem, we looked online and found B&K. They were initially tied up for the day but I was so pleased when I got a callback saying they were able to schedule us. The problem was more extensive than we knew and could have caused a serious situation. Problem was taken care of in a timely manner and at a reasonable price. I just had B&K do an electrical job for our replacement pool. I had originally invested a lot of time with another company over then phone and texting about my job, until I had had enough of the runaround, so I contacted B&K. On a Friday night I put in the request and by early Monday morning I was hearing from them, and luckily for me, they had a cancellation for the next day and scheduled me for 8 am. Later that afternoon there was a knock on my door, from one of their electricians coming to take a look at the job so that he could report back to his boss. Wow!! I was shocked by that customer service, seeing that my original electrician for the job didn't want to 'waste his time coming out over the bridge to look'. B&K's service provided was excellent, I found them to be fair with their pricing and very considerate while doing the job. Everything was explained fully and I was completely satisfied with the finished product. I will definitely being hiring them back for some smaller jobs around the house. As for that other electrician. I'm still waiting. Lesson learned, hire local and and listen to recommendations from friends! read more

When you have an emergency power outage on a cold night and the emergency call lady hangs up on you.

This is a little late in coming. Back in April 2018 I contracted with B&K Electric to perform a service upgrade (100 to 200 amps) as well as the installation of a generator interlock. The house - located in the Warwick area - is old, and the original panel a mess! The crew showed up right on time and got to work. One worked outside while the other began inside. Since the old panel was in a somewhat cramped area, they were forced to remove part of the wall. (I truly expected that, given the size of the 200 amp panel.) That was done clean! The work was done in a day! Despite what they had to work with, the install was clean and professional. They checked all the plugs through the house. They voiced some concern about the lateral drop from the pole. (Not their responsibility.) I made a call to National Grid, and that was taken care of as well. I now have a 200 amp service with a generator interlock. I have plenty of space for any additions to the service. I don't have to worry about the electrical system any longer. And I have B&K Electric to thank for that. They made it possible. If I ever had any additional electrical needs, I wouldn't hesitate to call upon them. read more

Although they did good/decent work, as I now see from previous reviews, they aren't completely transparent about pricing. I called because we were renovating my kitchen and wanted to add a new light fixture, and lo and behold the price at the end of the job was a least 2/3 higher than was quoted to me over the phone. Had it been an "estimate" I wouldn't be as upset, but since a "quote" is legally binding price for performance I was a tad annoyed. Had it been a larger job I would've fought more, but as I always say, those who give poor service are just poor souls who aren't worth your time. read more

Based on reviews I tried this company. I expected to be told upfront about the pricing concerning the work that was to be done. That didn't happen. I was handed a bill an hour later saying the work was done. I wasn't happy with the cost and said something. Mike called me saying they could rip out the work they had done. I can't believe that was his solution. After discussing it more he offered to cut the cost to make his customer happy, I wasn't happy by the way this whole thing was handled, or how his worker began speaking to me. I'm a little late writing this review but here it is. Last yr my main breaker kept tripping and getting really hot, The lights in the house flickered and water was getting in to my breaker box. I called a few electricians and B&K called back within 5 minutes of me leaving the message, btw...they were the only one to respond. I talked to Mike and he had a couple of guys here the next day. They replaced the panel, added an electric inlet on the outside of the house to hook a generator up when needed and I had them installed some baseboard heat on the second floor. The guys were friendly and professional and the job was done in one day. I'm not sure what all of that work normally costs but what I paid seemed extremely fair considering what they did. I had an emergent situation, where I had no heat and half my house was out. I called and they were able to squeeze me in for a same day call. So I was talking to my neighbor and he said he knew what the problem was and could fix it for me. I called back B&K electric and explained my neighbor would fix it. Well a technician came out anyways, free of charge, to check the work and make sure I was safe. People don't usually go out of their way for no fee to do something like that. My experience with this company was great! I needed to have an issue checked out in my house as several outlets stopped working in the kitchen. I called on Wednesday - got an immediate response and scheduled an electrician for Thursday am. Due to my work schedule, I had a very small window before leaving for work. Amazing company. They came out to my house in March to do some recessed lighting in my lower level family room and everything was perfect. They covered my rug so nothing would ruin it and worked very quickly and to my liking. Dimmer light switches were also added to the lower level family room which is just what I needed. They also adjusted an outside sensor light for me in the backyard so it's nice and bright when I take my dog out at night. We had purchased a 2 family house partly because of the finished basement. I searched for a licenced electrical company and B and K was quick to give me a call back. Mike explained the cost of everything over the phone and was evan able to quote me an estimate right then and there. I decided this was the professionalism I needed to get past my issues. Recently we had a building inspector from West Warwick give us an inspection to be approved for energy efficiency grant. W.W. inspectors gave us devastating news that the basement was not up to code and needed to be demolished even know it was inspected when we bought it and again 2 other separate times by the same W.W. building inspectors :( My basement was ordered to be demolished and that's sad but the electrical issues were fixed in only a few short hours and I am now moving forward with what I need to do.
