There was a bit of a learning curve at first but then you get the hang of it. They have all the supplies and so many yarn colors, so you are able to be really creative and do whatever you want! TL;DR - shop here for your weird stretchy fabric needs but wait for coupons…read more I have been a long time customer at Spandex World (10+ years mostly online orders but a few stops at their old brick and mortar in the garment district). I will always recommend this store when a client wants something stretchy that can't be sourced locally and I have had mostly good experiences over the years. I have a bad habit of impulsively buying weird prints and basics, to the point that I might as well consider fabric shopping as a second hobby. Anyway. Things you'll find at Spandex World - bright funky prints, mesh, solid knits, stretch velvet, stretch lace, stretch denim, sequins, stretch PVC, milliskin, mystique... Things I've made from Spandex World's fabrics - dance costumes (SO MANY DANCE COSTUMES), activewear, damn near indestructible pants from their heavyweight Ponte di Roma (seriously holding up for years of regular wear and washing), a LOTR style wedding dress from stretch velvet, a fembot costume using stretch PVC... Things to think about before ordering - they run sales really regularly. Basically every holiday (even minor ones) and then sometimes "just because" there's a promo code, so sign up for their newsletter before placing your order. Coupon codes never apply to clearance (which is usually a pretty solid deal as is). The only reason I'm docking a star is because of old customer service issues when I was ordering online. At one point in time I needed some stupid amount of one fabric and inquired about larger quantity discounts (this was before they implemented the wholesale tab, which still is a very small selection). The pricing wasn't the greatest so I just waited for their Black Friday sale to order 30 yards and then the Christmas sale to order another 32 when my client decided to double up after the first pieces were delivered. The other issue I had was when I ordered two fabrics that clearly coordinated on the site (eggplant mesh and eggplant sequins), I received a burgundy mesh and a bright purple sequin. If I was going for flashy clowns it would have been ok. It took multiple back and forth emails with photos for them to relent and send me the right fabrics because they claimed they might not show correctly online. Either way I would expect the two to at least coordinate, i.e. 2 purple or 2 burgundy fabrics, since the same equipment was used for the product photos. They did end up sending me the correct materials (check the photo of the dress :)) and eventually a shipping label to return the incorrect fabrics. It sucked because my turn around was really tight for a showcase in South Korea so I wouldn't have been able to just easily ship it to the final destination if I couldn't get it in my client's hands in time.

Besides a variety of clothing, jewelry and assorted sundries, the bulk of Broadway Silk Store's shelves are filled with bolts of fabric (beyond silk) for making clothes, upholstery, etc.! Fantastic! Soon I'll be reupholstering some vintage family furniture, and I'll definitely come back here! The storekeeper, who's Broadway Silk Store's owner, was so friendly! The yarn is NOT CHEAP SHIT. Beautiful and colorful inside. They even have a cafe that serves coffee and bakery items. They offer classes too for knitting and crocheting So cute. Had a fun experience here and the young woman at the front was SUPER helpful and sweet and very welcoming.
