History
Established in 1953.
Ronald Bensz and Roland Evett founded B&E Marine in 1953, working first from Evett's basement. Both men shared a passion for the water, Bensz as a hydroplane racer and engine mechanic. By the spring of 1954, they leased a parcel of land on Trail Creek, a canal adjacent to Lake Michigan and built a 560 square foot building and that is now part of B&E Marine's continuously growing complex in Michigan City, Indiana. Today B&E employs 35 full-time and a number of seasonal workers expanding to 10 buildings covering over 100,000 square feet, two hoists, two ramps, two fuel docks and 70 permanent slips. B & E is a dealer for Sea Ray & Boston Whaler boat brands. B & E Marine also sells pre-owned and brokerage boats. Full Service and Storage are also available.
Meet the Business Owner: Rod B.
"There is something about the water I have always been drawn to and I enjoy sharing that feeling with our clients/friends at B & E Marine. Boating is a great activity to experience fun, family, friends, peace, and all the many things life has to offer" says Rod. His father, Ron Bensz, started B & E in 1953 as a small shop selling Mercury Outboards and small wooden boats. Ron was a great visionary who loved his hometown and the lakefront. He slowly built the business over the years and sold the company to Rod and his brother Barry in 1987. After graduating from Indiana University Kelly School of Business in 1989, Rod joined the business full time in Sales. Although he is part owner with his brother, Rod's main responsibility is Director of Sales/Marketing. He enjoys coming to work every day and working side-by-side with a great team to help their clients experience their passion for the water through the sport of boating. Rod is also involved in many boating industry groups.
