I was very excited to learn that a new food truck would be coming to our business park. B and D's Curbside Grill provided their menu in advance, so we could enjoy the anticipation. Unfortunately, the joy of anticipation far outweighed the overall dining experience.
I ordered several items, as I had a hard time narrowing down my choices.
D's- Grilled Cheese- $5 w/fries or $4ea (Cheddar cheese, grilled onions, tomatoes on sliced french loaf from Our Daily Bread). This was very disappointing. The sandwich did not contain grilled onions or tomatoes, and the bread tasted like Wonder Bread. Aside from not having the ingredients advertised, it was very lightly grilled, so the bread was still soft and did not have that crunch of a good grilled cheese sandwich. My 3-year-old granddaughter makes grilled cheese sandwiches with me when she comes to visit, and the quality was about the same, but we use better bread at my house.
D's- Chicken Bahn-Mini's- 8$ for 2 mini's w/fries or 4$ ea. The Bahn Mini had flavorful pickles and carrots, but the serving of meat was very stingy (3 small bits for the whole sandwich), and consequently the very delicious bread overwhelmed the flavor of the filling. If the proportion of filling to bread had been better, the sandwich would have been memorable. As it was, "meh".
B's - Aloha Shoyu Chicken and Rice bowl- $6 w/drink (slow simmered Chicken over a bead of rice with shredded cabbage). This could have been a great dish, as the flavor foundation was solid. It failed in presentation and punch. There was a generous portion of shredded chicken, and the chicken had a very nice flavor. But what you were served was a blob of rice, topped with a blob of chicken, sprinkled with a few long shreds of cabbage. When you were served, the nice man in the truck said "Be sure to add extra shoyu sauce." If they thought it needed more flavor, they could have served it with more sauce or made a more flavorful marinade, instead of telling every customer to add extra sauce to make it a flavorful dish.
Additional issues:
1) They were unprepared to take orders, cook, and serve food at the same time. There was a very long line and several of my co-wokers placed their orders, were told to come back in 20 minutes for their food, and still had to wait an additional 10 minutes when they returned to receive their food.
2) when a meal had a beverage included, if you did not specifically ask "Didn't that come with a drink?" when you picked up your food, you were not given your drink.
Overall, the food was uninspired and bland, and definitely not as advertised. It didn't taste bad, but there was nothing about it that would make me want to eat there again. read more
