Kevin's expertise, creativity and perfectionism took us from despair to delight in only four months' time. That's because he's the rare contractor who does the preliminary and last finishing touches himself. As Kevin told us, "I don't leave shoddy work for the next guy because the next guy is me!" The few sub-contractors Stokes Construction brought in matched his same high standards whether in granite work, painting and carpeting. When we started this whole episode Kevin's fair and reasonable prices didn't begin to suggest the impeccable quality or exquisite artistic touches we'd end up treasuring every single day. Bottom line: Darryl, Tom and the whole crew at Healthy Painting do things right!…read more In summer of 2022 the team at Healthy Painting tackled our long overdue home exterior painting job. Built in 1942, our house had been painted many times, but not for quite a while. It was bubbling, peeling, cracking and just looked terrible. And as with most homes built during that era, the old paint contained lead. It turns out these complicating factors were no problem for the Healthy Painting team. While Healthy Painting's estimate was not the cheapest we received, we could not be happier with the work they did and the experience we had working with them. It was quite obvious during the process that Darryl (owner) and Tom (project manager) are passionate about doing a great job and doing it to the customer's satisfaction. And of course, safely addressing the lead paint. They set appropriate expectations given the age and condition of our original cedar plank siding, and the finished work exceeded our expectations. They did a great job on clean up and follow up as well. Sara the office manager is also helpful and responsive. If you're looking for a pro team that can tackle any challenge and cares about their work, we recommend Healthy Painting.

Over the years, I've watched Spane's crews build several different buildings here on Whidbey…read moreIsland. I have some experience in the building trades and was impressed by what I saw both in the quality of work and by the simple fact that unlike many Contractors/Subs these days, when Spane's crew got started, they didn't stop until the project was finished. In early 2025 I decided I wanted to build a 30'x32' shop at my house for my own use. I got bids from 5 different contractors and I decided on Spane for three main reasons: First, in my initial and subsequent meetings with Michelle, their designer and estimator, I learned she was very knowledgeable, personable, and very easy to work with. She took me through the entire design/build process from the beginning to the end, cheerfully answered my questions and put up with me changing my mind several times during the process. Because of her thoroughness, there were no surprises from start to finish. She made it easy. Second, Spane's bid came in the lowest, but I thought it was reasonable as I had done my own estimate of materials and labor based on current costs. (Unlike some of these Contractors around here who jack their bids up to try to make a years profit from a 2 month project...) Third, and most important, over the years I had seen for myself the quality of their work and at the end of my build, my new shop is exactly what I expected and exactly what I wanted. In today's world, Spane actually understands and pursues customer satisfaction and I can't recommend them highly enough.
