I moved to the area in 2007. Before that, I had used the same mechanic in my old neighborhood for 19 years. For the first 2 years, I would continually bring my car to my original mechanic located over an hour away because I had such poor experiences in the Mchenry area in terms of mechanics and the quality of their work. In 2009 while driving past, I decided just to stop in and check out the shop. I met Phil and got to chatting with him. Since that day I have brought all my vehicles in for his shop to work on. The prices are extremely competitive, and the work performed is second to none. I drive a Dodge and for years I have been trying to get a knocking noise repaired in the front end. Phil and his crew have worked wonders and the car is performing as quiet as it was driving off the showroom floor. These guys use high quality parts such as Moog and warranty their work. They have a night drop off which is extremely beneficial, and the work has always been done in one working day if I dropped it off the night before. Anyone who wants to know. I brought my truck here for maintenance, I was told they do good work and are very reasonable. When I went in everything seemed find (now I know they saw me as just dollar signs). I got an oil change and tire rotation. When I ask what kind filter and oil was being used, they told me , and I asked if they manufacturers parts. I was told if that is what I want I should go back to the dealer. Then I asked if they reset my oil change reminder, again I was told I should go to the dealer. After I saw the bill, I do not understand why I was reffered to them the price is not much less ( a buck or 2 ) and I was told to go back where I bought my truck for things they could not do. Just wanted to let people know if they can do a simple thing like reset the oil change reminder, what else on these newer trucks and cars will they just say take it back to the dealer. Last month, my air conditioning went out. I know nothing about diagnosing or fixing problems, so I ALWAYS feel like a whale in a service shop who just says yes to everything - very unsettling and I assume the worse. So, I went to a local Car-X and told the guy I thought I needed a Freon recharge/fillup. He begins to take the car apart and calls me to say that there is a leak, and given the leaks location he needs to break the entire system apart AND multiple modules are "out" that have to be replaced...all in cost was $680 to get the air fixed. The month before my Infiniti dealership said I needed to have sway bars replaced due to torn bushings which I decided to put off due to a $1,200 cost installed. In both instances, I decided to get a 2nd opinion and am SOOO glad I did. Phil at B&B tore the car apart and fixed a leak and refilled the Freon, but no modules needed work, nor was anything else defective. He said the bushings were a millimeter stretched but definitely not torn and he wouldn't do the work if it was his car. Out the door for $200 or so WITH oil change and had him look at brakes and other stuff as long as it was in. Had I listened to the other service shops, I would have spend nearly $2,000 - the guy saved me $1,800 and I FINALLY have a shop I can trust to do what's needed and nothing more! Definitely can't find a more honest shop! I'm not from the area and called them about setting up a pre-purchase inspection for a car I was interested in purchasing from a local dealer. When I gave them the make and model of vehicle, they asked if it was one from a particular dealer because they had just done a PPI on it. It was the same vehicle and to my surprise, they just gave me the details of the earlier PPI over the phone. This was a HUGE help because the was some issues with the vehicle that the dealer wasn't fessing up to so B&B saved me many hours of travel and processing. They easily could have just kept their mouth shut and earned the $ I was going to pay them for the upcoming PPI, but they obviously value customer service even more. Therefore, B&B certainly went above and beyond my expectations! read more

I was new in town and had just purchased a used car, so I looked on here to find a mechanic. The reviews looked great and after taking my car in, all I can say is WOW! What a great place. I've been here three times since 1) After my purchase They looked over the car for a small fee and let me know everything that needed attention. It needed minor work and they performed it quickly and did an excellent job. 2) I travel almost constantly so the next visit was an oil change. Once again quick efficient service. 3) I thought I was leaking oil so once again I had them check it out. It took them a couple days to get me in but I was on my way out of town for a 1,700. Mile trip and I was concerned. My fears were unfounded but they didn't take advantage of me. As it worked out it was my daughters car leaking oil so we took that in and he changed an oil gasket and once again the work was EXCELLENT. I can't say enough good things about this shop! read more

Can't say enough good things about this repair shop!! Most importantly they are trust worthy. They fix 'to fix', not to just 'make do'. Give honest opinions on work that 'must' be done and work that can 'wait'. After taking our vehicle for our 'lifetime alignments' at Firestone and having them completely goof up our tires/alignment/etc., B & B corrected all problems. Pricing is extremely reasonable. They have renewed our faith in honest, quality, friendly mechanics!! We drive from Algonquin to Mchenry for even just an oil change. I have met people in their shop that drive from Wisconsin for vehicle work/repair because of the high quality work and service. read more

Once again I owe B&B a big thank you for the work they did on my 2001 Volvo XC70. Front suspension needed repair and the parts for this old gem were astronomical. Steve hunted down reasonably priced aftermarket parts and made a pricey repair affordable. This shop is consistent in treating the customer fairly and honestly. Amazing!!! I found this place on internet and after seeing 5 star reviews on Yelp, I called them and talked to Phil. I was about to give up on a 2003 van with a blown engine, but Phil quoted me a price that was very reasonable for installation of a used engine. Phil personally kept me in the loop on this project. In only a few days, the van is working again with a second life. The final price was just under the quoted price and it was completed ahead of schedule. The folks at B&B in McHenry are really good people. This past Monday I took our car in because one of the tires was repeatedly losing air. The culprit was a large nail, which was removed and the tire repaired. When I asked about cost, Phil said there was no charge even though I had purchased this tire and three other tires from B&B back in November of 2009. Another recent experience was an emergency brake line problem that the folks at B&B fixed for me on December 23, 2011. Even though it was almost Christmas and they were very busy, they got me in and fixed the situation in a timely and cost effective manner. These folks really know what customer service is. read more

This auto shop has been going in the Wrong direction for a few years now!!Had major issues with them getting things fixed in a timely manner and they never finished or even started some of the things i brought the car in to get done!They had my car for a whole week and when i did get my car back it had dirt and hand prints all over it and my gas tank was completely empty. I am positive they were joy riding in my CLASSIC ! I Would never ever bring my car there again ! What a shame! read more

These guys Suck I had a brake job and tune up the first day I left two spark wires fell off. Then I lost a brake pedal I was in Woodstock took to good year the said the rear brake pads were on wrong. I spent over $600.00 I will never go there a gain. read more

I went here with a van I was trying to get repaired in order to sell. I had heard nothing but good things about these guys . BAD IDEA ! My van was put off for two months and never repaired. All I asked for was for the engine to be looked over and for a pulley to be aligned. It was always " oh yeah the van ,haha. We'll get right on that and call you when it's done." That never happened! I finally had to pick it up and fix it myself . The worst part is that one of these guys stole my sawzall out of the van. I have another, which is why I let it sit in the van for two months hidden under the bench seat. AMAZING!! Swooped in and made my life so much easier! Thanks for taking what could've been a financial nightmare and turning it into something much easier and stress free. Long story short, took my car to Toyota which is the dealer I purchased my car from. I had a rattling noise coming from under my hood and had progressively gotten worse. I definitely wanted to get a second opinion too as my car has been good to me and I want to be sure I fix the correct issues in order to avoid the need for a car payment...ugh! After an hour and 20 went by, they called to tell me their diagnoses; they were definitely eager to work on my car, insisting my car may be too dangerous to drive home. I advised I'd be picking my car up first, after paying their $125 fee to diagnose the car, would need to discuss with my dad. After both my dad and boyfriend saw their breakdown of charges, I was immediately referred to B&B. After reading their reviews, I decided to call and see what their cost to do the quoted said work was. Their quote was over half the price quoted from Toyota and being that I don't have the "Extra" money to just give, I decided I'd try out B&B. Steve and the other gentleman are very knowledgeable and professional guys. I live close so they were even flexible in offering to drive me home if my boyfriend couldn't follow me to drop off my car for service. Highly recommended!!
