Matthew came out and jumped my car right away. Asked if I could come in and get a battery changed out right away, checked to make sure they had one, gave me the price and said meet you there. He took care of it right away when I walked in. Got me on way and back to work. Thank you read more

John's on Main is the BEST! Most reliable, honest, thorough, reasonable PROs for all car repairs and maintenance. Thank you, Mark, Juan and Matthew read more

Very prompt diagnosis. Detailed explanation of everything that needed or might be needed done. Nothing extra done without talking to me. Offered me a free loaner several times, as the repairs were lengthy. John's was highly recommended to me by a friend in the business. I felt my car was in the hands of honest, skilled professionals. read more

I've known the owner Mark and worked with John's for several years now. They originally helped me out big time by finding a refurbished motor for my Subaru '18 Outback, and got it installed quickly for 40% of what the dealer wanted. Since then, I've had various minor issues with the vehicle including a tire pressure gauge, which required several visits before the problem was actually diagnosed and addressed. Mark did not charge me for the subsequent issues, which was very much appreciated. I almost feel as though we are co-owners of the vehicle. He clearly is interested in a long term relationship based on trust and value, and that's why I unequivocally endorse him and his shop. read more

Very professional and helpful. Was very pleased with their communication and outstanding customer service. Never felt as if I was being misinformed or guided into work that was not asked for or needed. Place is busy , have to believe they treat their customers extremely well. read more

I needed a tire plugged quickly with a huge gash in the tread. They were super busy but had a guy dedicated to tire plugs. Dropped it off and had it ready in 90 minutes. Still not leaking after a month! read more

John's Complete Auto Service - Auto Repair Near Me - Wauconda, Illinois

It was my first time here, what a great experience! Mark the owner was super friendly. I needed a bulb changed for my turn signal. I offered to go buy the bulb and asked what the charge was to replace it (this was all over the phone). He told me to just bring it in. The wiring housing came loose so they fixed that, put a new bulb in and sent me on my way-NO CHARGE! I would never expect free service anywhere and would not expect it from them again BUT, come on! How awesome was that? I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. I will definitely will be going here for all my future service needs. read more

Was thrilled to find this place after I moved to Wauconda. The first time I brought my car in they didn't even charge me. The next time, they replaced the alternator and battery in less than one business day. John's gave me very frequent updates as they worked on my car. Reasonably priced and straightforward business practices. read more

I wish I went here sooner! They are fast, reliable, reasonable priced, and great service. Mark is wonderful to work with and truly cares about his customers. Thank you for the excellent customer service and going above and beyond! read more

I love this place as much as you can love getting car repairs done lol. Seriously though they are honest and fair pricing for repairs and even simple oil changes. Before Covid hot I was waiting for my cars oil change and heard many calls where they said it was only a slight adjustment so it's done no charge. Or it's this and that and the cost is whatever and it's done usually that day. It's not often you find a shop that builds its reputation with such a diligent conscience. Give them a try and get ready for great service read more

This review is in regards to service performed in February 2016. As of now, this place seems to have overwhelmingly positive reviews. Although they are indeed nice at this place, I was ultimately not happy with them, however. The reason for going into John's was that several of the dash warning lights were on. Tire pressure was one of them, and they were able to diagnose that it was the spare tire pressure. Ok, no issues there. Other than that, they determined that the rest of the lights (ABS, etc.) were due to an issue with the mass air flow sensor. After determining this, they insisted upon performing additional services and tests to the vehicle in regards to the air flow because they "wanted to be sure the problem was truly the air flow sensor and there wasn't anything else going on with the vehicle." In hindsight, I should have pushed against that and simply had them replace the sensor, so that is on me. What makes this a two star review is that John's then proceeded to tell me that they had inspected the brakes, and that they needed to be replaced because they were at less than 25% life. I have a regular brake and muffler place that I use and trust, so I told John's absolutely not since they had already done so much work in regards to the air flow and that I was looking at a high enough bill for the day already, and that I would take it to my regular brake place. They didn't push too hard on this, but I thought it was odd that they recommended this brake work since I did not come in for brakes whatsoever, and they were not making any noise or tcausing any issues. Sure enough, I went into my regular brake place a week later, and they advised that the brakes were at least at 50% and did not need to be replaced at this time. So I am giving John's 2 stars because they are, indeed, nice. That "niceness" comes at a price, however, since they obviously just see dollar signs when you come in for other issues. When I was waiting in the lobby, I heard the employee talk to someone on the phone about their service and he literally said "well, I honestly couldn't feel good about having you leave without performing those extra services." Between this and the brake issue, it really left a bad impression that this place is really not honest, and is only looking to make as much money off of you when you step in the door as possible. I understand it's a business, of course, but if you are planning on using John's just beware of this be prepared to specifically indicate what services you want, and be ready to say "no" to all the extra stuff they will inevitably try to tack onto your bill. Beware. read more

I love John and his team. My family has gone to him for, probably well over 20 years now! They've always treated us right and given us honest recommendations and work. I had oil change joints and manufacturers tell me that I had problems with my breaks and I needed them looked into immediately. I took it to John's for a check-up and I walked away with an honest response, letting me know I didn't have anything wrong. They didn't try to screw me over. Thank you! read more

John's is the best. You can call them up over the phone and they will help you figure out what's wrong with your car. Just by the stupid car sounds you try making to explain why your car isn't working. You can tell them Johnny's down the road wants to charge you $XXX and they will beat it with a great price. I've also noticed that they still use higher quality products in their low quotes. You call them up at 7:30am on a Monday morning cause your car is on fire and they say "No problem! Bring it in!" Their customer service is like no other, their work is solid and actually lasts. If something breaks after they fix it, they fix it again, no charge. They also are extremely honest when it comes to what work your car does (and doesn't) need. read more

I have and old 1964 mower deck that needed some welding done. Called up asked if they weld and they said they could fit me in. The did a quick weld saving a 50 year old attachment. When I asked how much they said free. I came to pick it up talked to them and they outlined what they fixed. Knowing a bit about welding i know they did it the right way not the quick way. Thanks for your time. We will be back. read more

I've used John's regularly over the past 3 years and have always had great service. This last trip was for a tire with a slow leak that needed repair. They saw it would be a quick fix, and pulled one of the guys off a longer repair to take care of it so I could get to work. Took less than 20 minutes! Thanks again guys! read more

My Prius just came off warranty and I needed to find a place that I could trust after listening to so many BS repairs that the dealer recommended. I worked in Wauconda for a number of years and heard of Johns Auto from some of the locals. I trusted my beloved Prius to these guys and I'll only be going back to the dealer for recalls. These guys did a hybrid inverter flush and traditional radiator flush for a fraction of the price of the dealer. The owner of John's is a knowledgeable guy named Mark who assured me that job would be done in a timely manner and he was true to his word. I highly recommend Johns for anyone looking to get work done on their Hybrid and its a no brainer for a traditional car owner read more

Mark is truly a professional. You can tell he cares about you and he loves what he does. I brought my truck on for a broken tie rod and asked him to do my brakes too. He called within 15 minutes of dropping off my Silverado and told me the brakes were fine! I own a business with a fleet of vehicles and every time I bring one in for brakes I always get a fat bill for brakes. So refreshing to hear " nope brakes all good" He fixed what needed to be fixed and sent me on my way-knowing the next time I need a repair I'd be back. read more

I know enough about the automotive industry to know these guys are fair and very good mechanics. Thanks Mark and company

Best mechanic I've ever been to. I sadly moved to the city and have had nothing but issues with mechanics down here. Mark is the best it gets. Kind, honest, and genuinely cares for his customers. I will be traveling 40+ miles to have him work on my car because I know he does things right and can't find anyone else I trust. Great prices, great people, and an honest human. read more

Cannot say enough good things about this place and their customer service- timely, honest, quality work! Vehicle had a check engine light. Dropped off the vehicle in the AM- had it back before the end of the day. They worked with the warranty company, ordered the parts and repaired my vehicle. read more

My first time here. Had an emergency kind of situation with an awful grinding sound & truck not driving or stopping right. Nail bitting experience just getting here. I was a rattled mess to say the least! The guy at the counter (who I later found out was the owner Mark) was super nice, had my truck pulled in immediately to diagnose. Brought me in to show me what was going on & why. Mark was very thorough and explained everything that was wrong. It was a lot...siezed brakes, axel seals, etc.. needed tires BADLY. It was EXPENSIVE...but I did a quick check on-line & everything he was saying & his prices made sense. He explained what needed to be adressed NOW & what could be scheduled for another day. He had both guys working on it at once to get it done by the end of the day so I would be able to pick my son up from school & offered a free loaner for the repairs that still need to get scheduled. What impressed me most was how patiently he explained everything & how hard & fast they worked to get me back on the road. PLUS..he discovered another problem while working on the truck that he fixed at no charge! I will be coming here to get more work done & definitely if I need a mechanic in the future! I STRONGLY recommend them to anyone looking for a good honest fast mechanic with compassion!!!! read more

My car wouldn't start, so I called John's. They sent a tow truck out to my house within 20min, towed me and the issue was resolved immediately. They took a look at my Jeep to make sure there were no other issues (Alternator, etc). Very reasonable prices too, didn't overcharge for the parts and labor. Very fast and efficient. Great customer service. read more

John has been doing business for years. I recently had to have my car towed and get a new battery installed. He gave me the number of the tow company in town and then took care of my car once it got there. The mechanics are honest because the owner does business that way. Great to do business with. I will be taking my car back to get 100k service. It is refreshing to do business with people that are honest! read more

Great Professional Friendly Service! I stopped by to ask a question and they fixed the issue right then and there! Really nice people.

Great customer service, quick car service and honest staff. I just needed an oil change and tire rotation and was recommended this place by a few neighbors. I still called around to get other estimates and found Johns to be very reasonable. I called and they were able to fit me in that very same day! I'll definitely be back and recommend johns to others! read more

John's was recommended to me by my neighbors. I took my Jeep in for a check up due to some issue with the clutch/transmission. Mark got me in quick, gave me a diagnostic and quote. Friendly and fast. I've been to this business three or four times now with my brother's car and mine. Every time they were really nice to us and I felt they were honest. The last couple of times I brought my car there they did not charge me to look at it. I am new to the area and it is nice too have met a mechanic that is trustworthy, those are hard to come by. We will see where the future takes us, for now I feel they are doing a good job. read more

What can I say, Great Prices, Outstanding Service, and they delivered it on time. First Class in all Respects! Keep up the Terrific Job!

Too expensive, they want to make money and I don't blame them, but they gotta be more competitive with other areas. Wanted to change my batteries and installed was $200 and I got it done in Wauconda Car Car for $127 including tax and labor. read more

Honest and experienced mechanics that treat their customers like gold. If you're like me and want your vehicles repaired by someone who you can trust and will do expert work, then look no further than John's Automotive in Wauconda. Not only is Mark (owner) extremely knowledgeable about cars and trucks (all makes and models) he's also ia kind and friendly person. My wife and I are spending time in Wauconda while our son and his wife travel to Peru on business. I decided to take their vehicles in for routine maintenance and a few other issues while they were gone. I found Mark to be very concerned about the safety of the vehicles, going so far as to add air to the tires as we spoke. The repairs were done quickly and ahead of schedule. When he told me how much the bill was I was pleasantly surprised. The same thing happened when I took the second car in for work the next day. I give Mark (and John's Automotive) 5 stars for excellence. read more

Took my car to Johns because I couldn't get my brakes bled well after replacing rotors, pads and a few calipers. Mark understood I like to do work myself and let me know of any additional work that may be necessary. He bled the brakes and fixed a seized bleeder screw for a great price! Brakes work great! read more
