Neat place with nice staff, decently priced with great flavor. Easily best tacos in the Boro and a few games to play while you wait on your food. Easily missable from the road but it's the white building closest to Fair with the other closer to 25 being a pizza stand.

You can't go wrong with anything here. The tex mex rice top notch. Be sure to get the red salsa if you want some spice.

Jake English Dr. Greene…read moreComposition I July 6, 2015 El Sombrero If you're ever in Statesboro, and are looking for a great dining experience, then I would recommend "El Sombrero", not only for their delicious variety of Mexican food, but also for their great hospitality. Everything about my evening at the restaurant persuaded me to go back in the future. This two-story restaurant serves a variety of customers from a peaceful family, to a crowd of rowdy college students. There are several establishments that offer cuisine, but three of my friends referred me to El Sombrero, so I took their recommendation. They gave me great advice. Whenever I go out to eat, usually with my family, nine times out of ten I'm going to go to a Mexican restaurant. The endless supply of chips and salsa, and the gigantic amount of alcohol they give you in just one margarita are some of the reasons why El Sombrero attracts money-saving college students. Also, the two-storied design allows college students to go upstairs and eat and drink and keeps them separated from families who may be disturbed by loud college kids. When I asked the manager where the college students usually sit he said that the restaurant was arranged with an upstairs bar and one on the bottom because they wanted to attract college kids, yet they also wanted to serve in the community. Statesboro offers three locations to eat at so it shouldn't be too hard to find. Another reason to patronize the restaurant is that it is walking distance. Following the suggestions of my friends, I asked for a seat upstairs. As soon as I was seated my waiter brought out the free freshly made chips and salsa, as expected, and then asked what I wanted to drink. Being a teenager I ordered a Coke and asked for a bowl of jalapeño queso. Thinking about texture of the gigantic sized, salted chips mixed with the delicious jalapeños queso makes my mouth water now. I was not disappointed with the dip, it was hot and the perfect consistency. As I examined my surroundings I realized that in every corner of the room there was a flat screen T.V. awaiting my attention. The service was great. When I was almost done with my first coke, the waiter came up and asked me if I wanted a refill. The hospitality of the waiter is a major reason why I would recommend this joint to anyone looking for a nice dinner. When the waiter asked me for my main course, I ordered the steak fajitas with red and green peppers, onions, rice, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, pico de gallo and flour tortillas. It didn't take very long for my food to arrive, and the visual display of the steamy fajitas coming out only added to the excellent tasting dish it was. The quality of meat was outstanding; it was fresh and perfectly seasoned. My waiter said that a common dish that people get when eating at El Sombrero is the Burrito California. This dish is served with either steak or grilled chicken, onions, black beans, white and yellow cheese and El Sombrero's green tomatillo salsa. Other popular dishes served included are the fajita quesadilla and the enchiladas super rancheras. I was on a dinner date with Tori and ordered the fajita quesadilla with grilled chicken. She loved it, as did I. Everything physically about El Sombrero screamed out its Mexican ambiance and it was appealing to me. For example, the visual display of red clay tiles on the roof, the traditional tan coloring on the walls, Hispanic music playing throughout the restaurant, all the things that you would expect at a Mexican restaurant were present. Whether you want take out, catering or just to dine-in, El Sombrero offers it all. The only issue that I experienced was that, like all other popular restaurants with good food and service, El Sombrero gets pretty crowded on certain days during peek hours. With the idea of crowdedness, the factor that comes into to play as well is parking. When I asked my server when it typically gets crowded, he told me the weekends are without a doubt the busiest business hours. Not knowing that prior to when I ate there on Saturday, it was my luck that it wasn't too crowded. Looking at the reviews on Yelp for El Sombrero, if you want to have a nice, inexpensive peaceful lunch or dinner there are three locations in the Statesboro area, go to the El Sombrero in the old Publix shopping center behind Hardees. If you are a college student and want to be surrounded by people your age, and don't want the hassle of parking, go to the one on Fair Road. It is open until 11:00 P.M., which comes in handy if you are busy studying and can't eat any earlier. Food related almost all the other food critiques agree that they serve excellent Mexican food.

However, the quality of food has declined significantly; the beef is now overcooked and charred, lacking the tender, flavorful qualities it once had. Additionally, the portion sizes have diminished to a level more suitable for children, making the meals feel unsatisfying and poorly portioned. We will never be back to this restaurant. Folks, better spend your hard-earned money somewhere.

Zachery Delgado Corey Green…read more1101 July 2, 2015 Moe's Southwest Grill The second that you walk into Moe's you get a warm welcome from the cooks because they all scream out when you walk through the doors "welcome to Moe's". They want to welcome everyone into their restaurant with smiles and open arms. It makes everyone feel better when they are greeted when they walk into a restaurant or into a public place it makes them feel wanted. The Moe's where I live is not very good at saying "welcome to Moe's" when someone walks in although the one here in Statesboro is really good at saying "welcome to Moe's". When you look at the menu for the first time it can be very overwhelming by all of the choices and how all of the food looks really good. The menu ranges from burritos, tacos, quesadillas, salads, and nachos and you can customize all of those and add ingredients to them. They have 31 different fresh ingredients that you can put into your food when they make it because they make it all in front of you. They even have a vegetarian option available if you do not want chicken steak or pork. They also have over 20 items which are gluten free and ingredients with lower calories so they have something for everyone. At every Moe's they have a Coca Cola Freestyle machine which has over one hundred different drink options inside of it. The machine has flavors in it that are not in stores so it will be only way that you will be able to get the drink. They also have homemade sweet tea which is really good because it is made fresh daily. The best part about getting food from Moe's is that they will give you a lot of food. My favorite meals at Moe's are the Wrong Doug and the Joey Bag of Donuts. In the Wrong Doug you get a twelve inch tortilla with cheese in the middle hard shell on top with any kind of meat that you want, with their famous queso on top. You can also put their seasoned rice on it with the chicken which just adds to the flavor. Adding lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños, and more to your favorite meal at Moe's. After you say that you are done with it they put another hard shell on top and more cheese and then wrap it all up and they put it on the grill to cook it. The Joey Bag of Donuts' name is deceiving because it isn't a bag of donuts it's actually a really big burrito. It comes on a twelve inch tortilla with any kind of meat that you want on it. After that you can choose to put shredded cheese, beans, pico de gallo, with their seasoned rice. With every meal you get a free side of chips and salsa which have free refills if you want more. You can also ask for a side of their queso with the chips but it will cost some more money sadly. The environment in the restaurant is warm and welcoming especially with the employees. They have a lot of pictures on the walls of regular people that look like famous people. The scary thing is that they really do look like famous people. Moe's started in Atlanta back in 2000 and has grown to over 500 stores nationwide and a few abroad on military bases. Theirs a Moe's in three different countries including: the U.S., Turkey, and Russia. Everything is prepared fresh in the store and the chips are made in the store fresh so they are not old and stale.

After eating here, I recall why I don't frequent Moe's. The service was so-so, food prep area and…read moredrink station could be cleaner. The open light was off so it appeared they were closed at first sight. My food was bland, no flavor at all, including the salsa. Give me a Baja Fresh or Chipotle over this. Waste of money. 2 stars for having a vegetarian friendly menu and good service.

This is the best restaurant I've been to in Statesboro yet. Here's what my wife and I had: * Mixed Chicken and Steak Lunch Fajitas Over Rice ($11.25) - cooked with bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes, and topped with cheese dip * Lunch Combo Special No. 1 ($9.25) - one chile relleno, one taco, beans and guacamole salad * Guacamole Dip - Small ($4.65) Everything was delicious. This is your standard Americanized Mexican restaurant, complete with complimentary chips and salsa (side note: the chips here are of the thicker, harder, and crunchier variety). I would say this place does the Americanized Mexican restaurant concept well and operates like a well-oiled machine (in business since 1989). Our entrees came out fresh and tasty, but the Guacamole Dip was a bit underwhelming. It looked and tasted like it had been sitting out a while. It was discolored whereas the guac that came with the lunch combo was fresh and vibrant. Service was good. We visited on a Friday for lunch and it was nice and busy, though not absolutely packed. Lots of families. This location on Buckhead Drive is the third and newest of the three "El Som" locations in Statesboro, having opened in 2008. It's relatively nice and known as the "Palace." The original location opened on Fair Road in 1989 and the second location opened in the Publix shopping center on Northside Drive circa 1993-1994.
