Tried Azucar and had a great experience! Staff were great and attentive. The only reason I gave them a 4 was because my daughter ordered a chicken and that had a different taste than what she was used to. The thing was that the rice tasted like Paella rice and not the floor she was used to of regular chicken and rice. IYKYK. The was great, just not what she was expecting. They fixed the issue and were great about it. Definitely coming here again as it's close to home, great food and great staff!! read more

We just tried this restaurant for the first time, and it did not disappoint. The service was absolutely impeccable. We never waited for anything and the pace of the meal was perfect. We both had cocktails and they were expertly mixed and delicious. We shared the Croquetas Pollo, they were so yummy and the sauce was a great pairing. My husband ordered the Masas. The pork was tender and crispy, and the yuca fries and rice were a perfect complement. I had the branzino with chipotle potatoes and veggies with chimichurri. Delicious. The churros are miniature, filled with warm caramel and come with three dipping sauces. We could not have asked for a better dining experience and can't wait to go back! read more

Went to Azucar for dinner. Amazing and attentive staff. Fresh, hand made, home made Cuban food - we LOVED IT. Truly enjoyed the fact the appetizer sampler? Had three different types of empanada! Highly recommend a visit! You won't regret it. Just think homemade, handmade, Cuban food. Super nice people I can't wait to go back and I'm going to try the paella the next time - it takes a little bit longer to prepare? And they tell you about that in advance like 20 minutes? But well worth the visit and I would love to hear other opinions about this place. Definitely going to go back. Oh, and I wanna try the desserts we were so full? Food tasted very burnt and oily. Server told me that it would be crunchy and that was the style of the dish, but it had no taste or flavor to it either. The shrimp empanadas were good. The $3 mojito was good. I choose to sit outside, maybe that was a bad idea. Service was slow and there were only a total of 8 people in the whole restaurant. I choose this location because it's close to home. Likely won't come back :( I had to end up calling the restaurant to have my server come out to me. She never came back I waited for 23mins for someone to come out. I'd rather go to the Huntersville location. For me to drive 44mins away that says a lot about the service. I will say this, by the time I left the manager took care of my tab and invited me back. This review is based off of today's service. Hopefully my next review will be better. read more

I came for lunch last month and it was amazing!! Took my entire family here tonight not was terrible . Took an hour and a half for dinner to come. All one at a time. Mine didn't come until we were leaving - an hour and 45 minutes later. Spraying FABULOSA cleaner while we were eating was disgusting. We asked if it could stop and she didn't. There was only one other table and we waited soooo long. My dinner came when we were paying the check. The staff stood and stared at us in a mean way because we complained. Wife and I went to Azucar for lunch/brunch on a Saturday. Did not know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised! Was suspect about "bottomless" mimosa but watched the bartender pour it (in a large martini glass) and it was like most of you pour at home - 90% bubbles. The shrimp empanadas came out quickly and were stuffed with shrimp and larger than I was expecting. The dipping sauce (like a chimichurri) was tasty. I had the Con Todos de Hierros- large fluffy frittata with plenty of extra protein. The house made hot sauce was delicious. Wife had the Aguacate y Prosciutto. Huge! Two pieces of thin toast (thank you!!!) with guacamole and topped with prosciutto. Salami, slice manchego, cherry tomatoes, And pickled pearl onions. Beautiful presentation! Great lunch at Azucar! Love everything Cuban food and finally got a chance to try and it did not disappoint. Not only was the food hot and delicious, it was quick and a great value too. I didn't get to take a photo of the Cuban coffee and Azucar sampler that we ordered. I had scheduled for a meditation class across the street and since we had a little bit of extra time we decided to stop by at Azucar. I am so GLAD that I made that call because their AZUCAR SAMPLER was to die for. The empanadas were soooo good. The croquetas were crispy on the outside but really soft and tasty on the inside. My first thought when I had my first bite of the beef empanada was "what kind of sorcery is this? This is sooooo good." My best friend and I were literally so mind-blown. I couldn't wait for this place to open! It's about time we had Cuban food in this area! Came for their lunch special, M-F 11am-3pm, $10 per dish and comes with black beans, rice, salad, and plantains, which is a lot more affordable than their dinner prices. I've tried their Pollo Guisado (Stewed Chicken, Olives, Capers, Tomato Sauce), Ropa Vieja (Shredded Beef, Onion, Bell Pepper, Tomato Sauce), and Pezcado Empanadas ($14 for 2 pieces). They come on a plate that looks like a cafeteria plate. Still, not a bad deal for the variety that you get. I was not too impressed with the rice and found the chicken was dry, but otherwise, the plantains were great, and I would order the Ropa Vieja dish again. I was immensely disappointed that the empanadas only come with 2 pieces, especially for the whopping price of $14. They were a little spicy, and the skin was perfectly cooked. They tasted great, but not $14 great. Service was good, though we also ate early so they were not busy yet. It's a small venue with nice Cuban vibes with the decor. Food was delicious and authentic. We started with the ham croquetas and toston in a bowl topped with shrimp. Both appetizers were delicious. Our main entrees were rabo and masas. The flavors were authentic- a true party in my mouth! I had a Cienfuegos drink and my husband had an Old Fashioned. I loved my drink! Lastly, we ordered flan for dessert. It was the only thing we weren't impressed with; it seemed over cooked and was missing the caramelo which is clutch. We will definitely come back. We've had Azucar twice since they opened a few weeks ago. Both times have been phenomenal. My family is Cuban and many of them still live in Miami. This is the best Cuban food I've had outside of Miami and it isn't even close. We've tried the Croquetas, Cuban Rolls, Vaca Frita, Masas, and the Bistec Relleno. Everything was 10/10 except the Bistec Relleno (6/10, just too much meat). For only being open for a few weeks, this place was out of this world. So delicious, fresh, and authentic. Not to mention that the second time we had Azucar was an online order for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It was ready within 10 minutes and was piping hot when we picked it up. We are so glad to finally have found Cuban food that's awesome enough to write about! To begin with, it's been in my personal history and past experiences that trying out deconstructed Cuban food dishes usually don't really work out for me. But after trying out the amazing fresh cold tropical black bean dip with the toast points along with the Cuban rolls that were fried to perfection with a mouth exploding mustard side, I was finally convinced!! They tasted like we were in a fancy Brickell Ave restaurant and bar with a cover charge to get in down in Miami. Pam con lechon pork was extremely soft and bursting with flavor. The croquettas are just mind-blowing delicious and will not find anywhere else in NC!! Arroz Imperial looked and tasted wonderful and was a large portion. Overall, it is an extremely satisfying and flavorful dining experience and can't wait to return for the food and service here. The ambiance is friendly and clean.
