Tacos: Lengua, Cabeza, Suadero ($3.75 each), Guacamole ($5.25), Chips ($3.29)

3.5 STARS Always a good sign when you see native speakers rolling in deep and you get awkward stares. Azteca Market seems like THE place locals go to when they want legit taqueria fare specifically menudo and offal filled tacos. Their St. Helena location opened over 20 years ago and their Napa location followed a decade later. This is the only location with seating (outdoors only). Part market and part taqueria, there's three lines: meat counter (chicharrón by the lb!), taqueria, and market. After ordering at the meat counter or taqueria, you need to go to the market line to pay. You're then given a number and your number will be called outside at the pick-up window. M E N U Typical taqueria staples: Street tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, tortas, etc. They give you one container of your choice of salsa (pico, roja, verde, avocado, or habanero) and charge 50 cents for additional salsa. Protein: Pollo, asada, lengua, cabeza, buche, carnitas, pastor, and suadero. Menudo available on weekends but they consistently sell out within one hour of opening (by 10 am). Sucks they don't make a larger order ahead of time. Cc's accepted. F O O D * Chips ($3.29) Housemade chips, thick and hearty but hard on the teeth. * Guacamole ($5.25) Rich and creamy with a nice bright tang. Heavy on the onion and tomato filler. * Tacos ($3.75 each): https://tinyurl.com/y2fu8tst Tacos are served on a warmed, double corn tortillas with onion, cilantro, and lime (requested salsa on the side). - Lengua: Beef Tongue x2: Small, tender beefy bits. - Cabeza: Beef Head x2: Soft, shredded beef texture. - Suadero: Rose Meat x2: I couldn't tell the difference between this and the cabeza. While soft, they don't sear the suadero after braising for those delicious charred edges. Solid salsas: avocado (creamy and tangy) and habanero (punchy with a medium spicy kick) S E R V I C E The cashier was really friendly but the other staff were all business. Food took awhile since there was a group of 10 before us. A M B I A N C E Organized market filled with A LOT of items. Handful of shaded tables in front. P A R K I N G Shared lot with Clif Family Tasting Room. Overall, decent street tacos that scratch the itch esp if you're looking for cheap eats in the bougie St. Helena area. I prefer the grimy Tacos Garcia (truck) but Azteca has shaded outdoor seating so 3.5 stars rounded up.

I think these tacos are some of the best I've had! Highly recommend the al pastor! They are pretty filling too so I could eat 2-3, but Ik some ppl can take out 4 if they are hungry! Ordered to go! Friendly service

I was out this way for a wedding and stopped the day before for some food. The veggie burrito was huge and delicious, and I had to pick up a habanero hot sauce while I was there! Great hot sauce collection in the market!

This is a cute little spot right on the end of shops and stores of Main Street. There is no place to sit inside you would need to sit outside We needed a quick bit of food between tastings and Mexican food sounded good! It's a small shop with cooked food and groceries, even a small selection of produce. We got a burrito and ceviche. The food was quick and we were helped quickly but this isn't authentic Mexican food. I'm from SoCal, this food was missing flavor. And why is there carrots in my ceviche? It worked in a pinch.

PSA! Just found out a regular burrito at azteca means onions and cilantro. So if you don't like onions or cilantro like me please make sure you say no onions or cilantro. Also the cashier was seeming to have a day and ruined mine more. Very disappointed in Azteca.

This is such a great stop on the way to all the surrounding wineries. The market is really convenient if you are looking for light groceries, snacks, and delicious Mexican food! There's so many options to choose for the deli section. We opted for the burrito deluxe and it was ginormous! It was a beautiful day so we sat outside since there's a good amount of tables. We were able to get our order from the outside window. The staff were super friendly throughout. The burrito was pipping hot and wrapped to perfection. The first few bites were so flavorful and I was so happy I got the Al pastor. The cheese was so nicely melted and it was an incredibly delicious burrito. It had all the right fixings with the meat, onions, pico de gallo, rice, sour cream, beans, lettuce, and guacamole. I enjoyed the burrito from start to finish. I'll definitely stop by the next time I'm in the area!

We were starving after a few wine tastings and didn't have too much time to sit and enjoy, but this place popped up on Yelp and since one in our group wanted some Mexican, we gave it a try. So glad we did! The burritos were HUGE, cheap, and so filling! This place is true Mexican in Napa! If I lived closer I would pick up food from here all the time! Give the Al Pastor or Carnitas a try! And careful the salsa is spicy!

This has been one of my go to spots lately. You're not gonna go wrong with the Carne Asada or Carnitas regular burrito. Delicious! $1.99 Bag of chips and comes with red or green sauce. Staff is always kind and consistent great food! Patio out front and inside store is a plus

Well deserved FIVE STAR review here. I never in my life expected to enjoy great quality Mexican food from St. Helena. I ordered the Carne Asada super burrito. First of all, the size of this burrito is huge. If you're not super hungry, you can share this burrito between two people. The carne asada is thinly sliced, well-seasoned, and tender. Sour cream was not too sour, guac added some texture and rice was soft, all wrapped in a authentic soft tortilla. I know this is a big statement, but I put this burrito in the best top 10 burritos I've ever had. Service wasn't the quickest, but I did come here on a Saturday and a wedding was going on in the area. Ambiance is obviously beautiful. You're in St. Helena surrounded by greenery and wineries. Next time I'll have to check out the market. The only thing I think this restaurant could work on is their online ordering system. It wasn't working for me or my cousin. We had to go down and order in person. 10 out of 10 recommend coming here for authentic mexican food.

Was nearby at a winery, doing a tasting, but obviously really hungry and the winery only had small-bites food that was not going to fill me up. I ordered the carne asada burrito and wow was it amazing. I really loved the big portioned burrito and the flavor of the salsa was delicious! Really filled me up and would definitely drop in again after/before a wine tasting in Napa. If you're in the market for some Latino food/grocery store finds, this is your store. They have a great selection of things you need in your kitchen

This place is a (somewhat) hidden gem on south side of Saint Helena, on outskirts of downtown located directly across from Farmstead. Azteca is both a very small grocery and casual counter-order service eatery. Mexican cuisine is the story here - very reasonably priced grocery items and better yet, made to order tacos, burritos, empanadas, poblanos, & quesadillas (see menu pic). There's outside tables for dining as well.

The Taqueria is a wonderful gem tucked away in the corner of the market. A "mom and pop" type operation with traditional Mexican comfort food that is super rich with flavor. A very low key and casual dining for take out or eat at the outdoor cafe tables. All of the dishes were freshly made and generous portions and reasonable prices. Free parking is available and views of vineyards and the wine train add to a a really great experience for no frills food clearly made with love.

Most delicious chiles rellenos anywhere! Have enjoyed them every time. Much better than the tamales which were a little on the dry side.

I recently stopped by the St Helena Farmer's Market while traveling between Clear Lake State Park…read moreand Brannan Island State Park. (To be real, I wanted a burger from Gott's, but they weren't open yet.) The market was on the smaller side, with maybe about twenty active booths. It was much smaller than the farmers markets I'm used to in the Sacramento area, but much larger than the 4-booth market in Yosemite Valley. The best decision I made was ordering a ham and Swiss croissant from the pastry booth. Sadly, I don't remember the name of the booth, but it was the best croissant I've ever had in my life. (I think it was West Won Bread, unless it was Patisserie Angelica Sebastopol.) A slightly less wise decision was ordering the strawberry shortcake from the cooking school. The student, who did not give off any kind of competent vibe, whispered to the order-taker, "How do I make that?" She quickly recited, "biscuit, whipped cream, lemon curd, berries." I mean, the photo really speaks for itself. There was less than like two tablespoons worth of chopped berries, and the top of the biscuit was not covered in curd. The flavor was all there, but the presentation and portion sizes were not. Then again, this was a cooking school, so maybe some mistakes are to be expected. I wouldn't have ordered from them if I wasn't willing to take the risk. Even though this is a small market, the quality of the vendors is on the supremely artisan side. Definitely worth stopping by for a bite to eat if you're in the area. (Also a great brunch option.)

Fun and great folks. Always like the quality of goods and produce. I wish there was more organic…read moreproduce available.
