Azteca Market seems like THE place locals go to when they want legit taqueria fare specifically menudo and offal filled tacos. Their St. Helena location opened over 20 years ago and their Napa location followed a decade later. This is the only location with seating (outdoors only). Part market and part taqueria, there's three lines: meat counter (chicharrón by the lb!), taqueria, and market. After ordering at the meat counter or taqueria, you need to go to the market line to pay. You're then given a number and your number will be called outside at the pick-up window. M E N U Typical taqueria staples: Street tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, tortas, etc. They give you one container of your choice of salsa (pico, roja, verde, avocado, or habanero) and charge 50 cents for additional salsa. Protein: Pollo, asada, lengua, cabeza, buche, carnitas, pastor, and suadero. Menudo available on weekends but they consistently sell out within one hour of opening (by 10 am). There is no place to sit inside you would need to sit outside We needed a quick bit of food between tastings and Mexican food sounded good! This is such a great stop on the way to all the surrounding wineries. The market is really convenient if you are looking for light groceries, snacks, and delicious Mexican food! There's so many options to choose for the deli section. We opted for the burrito deluxe and it was ginormous! It was a beautiful day so we sat outside since there's a good amount of tables. We were able to get our order from the outside window. The staff were super friendly throughout. The burrito was pipping hot and wrapped to perfection. The first few bites were so flavorful and I was so happy I got the Al pastor. The cheese was so nicely melted and it was an incredibly delicious burrito. Oh Aztecas, how I miss you so. First off, whoever said this isn't close to "real" Mexican food just because they're from SoCal... imma let you know as a SoCal native that I believe Aztecas CLEARS a majority of spots down here. To start off, their fries are on a whole nother level. Freshly fried, cheese isn't the typical NACHO cheese but a stretcher, meltier, kind of cheese which coats each bite evenly with well seasoned chunks of meat. Their burritos and their Torta is really good too! I went to the college at PUC nearby for a total of 4 years and my favorite story to tell my friends and new transfers is how I walked the 8 miles down the hill just for their food. Well deserved FIVE STAR review here. I never in my life expected to enjoy great quality Mexican food from St. Helena. I ordered the Carne Asada super burrito. First of all, the size of this burrito is huge. If you're not super hungry, you can share this burrito between two people. The carne asada is thinly sliced, well-seasoned, and tender. Sour cream was not too sour, guac added some texture and rice was soft, all wrapped in a authentic soft tortilla. I know this is a big statement, but I put this burrito in the best top 10 burritos I've ever had. Service wasn't the quickest, but I did come here on a Saturday and a wedding was going on in the area. Ambiance is obviously beautiful. You're in St. Helena surrounded by greenery and wineries. Next time I'll have to check out the market. The only thing I think this restaurant could work on is their online ordering system. It wasn't working for me or my cousin. Azteca will treat you right when you need to recharge in between wine tastings. Their burritos, tacos and tamales are AMAZING in taste and quantity and the orders come out very quickly (during off peak times of course). The Taqueria is a wonderful gem tucked away in the corner of the market. A "mom and pop" type operation with traditional Mexican comfort food that is super rich with flavor. A very low key and casual dining for take out or eat at the outdoor cafe tables. All of the dishes were freshly made and generous portions and reasonable prices. Driven by Azteca Market many many times the last few years heading into St. Helena and have always seen a crowd. We finally had the chance to stop by and try the food here. I ordered a carne asada super burrito which weighed in at over 1.5 pounds! There was a generous amount of meat. The refried beans were creamy and flavorful, as was the Spanish rice. Delicious! The pastor street taco was excellent! There was so much meat and toppings you could not even see the two tortillas below it. These two things probably weren't the best things to eat a day prior to my annual physical's blood draw. Oops! We also ordered the cheese and pepper two tamale plate. It included a generous amount of refried beans and rice. They sell a huge amount of hot sauces that I've never seen or heard of before. I took a picture to do some research on which ones to buy next time I'm in the area. The food was ready in less than 10 minutes. Unfortunately, they were out of horchata that day but we did try the guava and mango agua frescas though. Both great and not overly sweet. read more

Staying in town for work and my host, who knows I love tacos, etc, recommended I come here. I had a lovely chat with the gentleman who took my order; he enlisted the help of two of his food prep mates in asking their recommendations between their pollo, carne asada, and carnitas options on which they were divided. I've been eating a lot of chicken lately so I went with their carnitas deluxe burrito (absolute yum!! did not disappoint) and purchased a pint of arroz, frijoles, salsa verde, and guacamole. Pretty great Mexican food for the price. Azteca has great food for the most part, and is the only place I've ever loved getting carne asada from. The steak isn't chewy, and tastes pretty good. We'd heard good things about the food but are usually in the area for wine tasting and this spot wasn't high on the list but we recently gave it a try and were pleasantly surprised by the best taqueria style burritos we've found in years. The seating outside is limited and you order inside the market - it would be nice if they made it available to order from the outside window passthrough and more seating would be nice. I write this review reluctantly. I have loved Azteca for decades, but lately I've been disappointed and frankly, avoided it. I have bought dozens of burritos there over the years and really enjoyed them. I've always appreciated that it is a family owned business and all the family is very friendly and courteous. The problem is, the last few times I have ordered a vegan burrito (without meat or dairy) it is 95% rice. There are hardly any beans and very little else. I vowed last time not to go again, but my husband picked up burritos for lunch. And again, RICE burritos. The pictures are 1/4 and 1/2 of the way through the burrito. By the end there was a little lettuce, a little pico de gallo, and very few beans. I wish Azteca would go back to making great vegetarian burritos. read more
