We hired Aztec Concrete to install stamped concrete in our courtyard area at a price of $8,800. Here are the pros and cons so you can judge for yourself: PROS 1. The finished product looks nice, 2. Aztec overcharged us by $300 but to their credit, they admitted this and refunded our money. CONS 1. Severely Damaged our Landscaping- A few days after the concrete was poured, the wisteria plants in our courtyard area rapidly began withering and now large parts are dying (see photos of before and after). These plants were lush, green and maintenance-free for the past 12 years and now, all of the sudden, they are dying (in their growing season, no less, with plenty of sun and rain) so one can only assume that this is connected in some way with the concrete materials and/or installation. When I contacted Aztec's saleslady about our brown dying plants and asked whether the concrete dust could have caused this sudden change, her response was "That is odd, usually landscape plants are not affected by the pigmented color. Take care." As time goes on, there has been plenty of sun and rain since then but our plants continue to wither up and die. If it wasn't the concrete dust, we can only conclude that when they prepped the courtyard area and cleared out existing weeds, they severed the roots of our wisteria plants with their shovels. 2. Dishonest and Possibly Without Insurance- Given the above, we asked for proof of their insurance which as you will see in the photo attached to this review, they publicly promised to do in #1 of their FAQ on their website. Despite asking for this 4 separate times now, they still refuse to provide it. Interestingly, they just updated their website and pulled their FAQ totally off. Good thing for screenshots! 3. Big Mess- By the end of the concrete pour day, the common area walkways and shrubbery surrounding the courtyard were splattered with concrete and dust. Rather than making an effort to clean up after themselves, I had to contact them and ask that they clean it. Their excuse was that our water faucet was in the middle of our courtyard which had wet concrete so they couldn't get to it. Since they poured concrete around the faucet, you'd think they would have noticed this and asked us to get our neighbor's permission to temporarily use her water to hose off the surrounding areas. Her house is 15 feet from ours and her hose would have easily reached this area. FYI- The Aztec saleslady even acknowledged her crew's lack of professionalism in an email to us which said "Re: clean up - I was surprised to see that my crew members did not clean up on Saturday". Saturday was the pour day so any later assertion by her otherwise is disingenuous. 4. Concrete on areas where it shouldn't have been- A number of pavers OUTSIDE our courtyard became covered in gray concrete which we had to ask them to come back and remove. The result was an obvious mottled pink/gray look (see photo) so the workers couldn't have missed seeing it (it is directly outside the courtyard gate where they had to walk to exit the area.) Aztec's saleslady tried to argue that it wasn't their fault and that they don't handle paver repairs. However when we insisted that they come back to return the pavers to their original pink color, their workers admitted that they knew that they got concrete on our pavers but didn't wash it off before it dried because they didn't have access to our water faucet due to the wet concrete. Again, I have to wonder why didn't they ask us to provide for access to our neighbor's water hose rather than leaving our pink pavers covered in gray concrete?? read more

We got a few bids for our simple patio re-finishing and Aztec was right on par with the others, a little cheaper. In scheduling and discussing our options, however, Aztec really seemed to care about getting us the right color and style, so we agreed the extra care about the customer rather than seeing us as another dollar would help. Due to the rains, they did have to re-schedule by a day, but that was fine. They cleaned the area well (messy, but that was expected), and laid/shaped the concrete the next. They protected our brick and glass well and had no extra splatter. 5 hours later due to drying, we have a completely new patio and love the way it came out. Even better, the customer service pre-sale was just as good post-sale with the inside team checking to make sure everything was going great. Responsive over e-mail and the phone. And the install team was awesome, professional and communicated well with us during the process. read more

I write reviews infrequently but the job Aztec did for us merits attention. At the end of the day the concrete looks great. I wanted to avoid having wooden spacers that break up the look of stamped concrete and Aztec recommended a solution with tougher concrete and more rebar reinforcement. The result exceeded my expectations. After the crew completed their work, I did notice some deficiencies. During pouring they allowed concrete (that looked like it was sprayed) to get into areas that were noticeable and difficult if not impossible to clean properly. In addition, a couple of the plants in the garden began to die suddenly. I initially thought concrete dust had gotten on the leaves of the plant, but it turned out that when they put the wooden "frame" into which the concrete was poured, they cut off a substantial number of roots. To make matters worse, the company is blaming me for this, saying that the contract talks about preparing the site for the workers. Yes, I did read that, but it never occurred to me that the crew would chop off so much of the roots that the plants were almost guaranteed to die, without telling me anything about what they did in advance, during, or after the pour. I was left to discover myself the reason for the damage. Finally, Aztec believes they bear no responsibility for damage to the garden, despite acknowledging that they cut the plant roots. Further, they are completely unwilling to help pay the bills for bringing the garden back to the condition it was in before their work. Bad form. I cannot recommend them. read more

Aztec was good to work with for the most part but they dropped the ball on one serious issue in my opinion. We were quoted a price to add drainage to our area. All along the time of install I asked repeatedly about drainage as that is a huge issue around Houston. They assured me it was not needed. I would have gladly paid for a French drain system. After completing the patio we immediately got standing water. I called , txt, emailed that I needed drainage. At this point is where I am not happy with service. They offer the French drain so I'm not sure why they won't help me. They keep saying they are not landscapers and telling me about yard swell. Ok I got it but I need help now with a drainage issue the patio you surveyed and installed and said didn't need a system. I asked someone would come over and to my knowledge they never did. I sent pics. So here I am again on a lightly rainy day looking at another giant puddle. Maybe someone will see this and help me and I can amend this rating. I feel like this is their responsibility to their customers especially since it's a service they offer. read more

Highly recommend Aztec. We completely redid our backyard and most of it is stamped concrete, so that element was crucial. We got 4 bids and Aztec won the lowest price, best value award. Erica was also super helpful with design and style suggestions, and she was ALWAYS available everyone I called. If you've done any work with ANY contractors you know this is rarely the case. I was nervous the color would not look real (I was going for subtle paver look) but it turned out great. My other big concern was drainage (see before pictures). Erica assured me they could handle this for me, and did- including the far back where I was putting in turf from another vendor! They trenched & tied the downspouts into an underground pipe, trenching all the way out to the curb. Final result is fantastic. The 5th star is for Urias and his crew who did an excellent job, went above and beyond (in sweltering heat), brought me parts after the job, and cleaned up perfectly every day. We contacted 3 different concrete companies for quotes on expanding our backyard patio with stamped concrete. One company never responded to my initial email request, the other was not able to keep their initial scheduled appointment but did provide a quote via e-mail. Aztec was the last company we contacted and from the start Ericka went above and beyond in regards to service. Throughout the entire process she kept all scheduled appointments, made an additional visit to our home when we were undecided on colors, stayed in communication with us regarding progress of the job and was always available via e-mail and phone if we had any questions or concerns. We are more than pleased with our finished patio and I would highly recommend her. Ericka was honest that their prices may not necessarily be the lowest, but they are very competitive.
