From the moment we met her, we were amazed by a woman coming in and measuring about 20 windows with all different treatments from Plantation Shutters, to verticals and roll up shades. They lasted till recently when some slats in a window that had the verticals was subjected to much of the sun broke off from the track. Patrice came in once again measured for a new track and we'll be back in business again. She is really a very talented woman. You can order bedspreads, drapes, flooring, window treatments. She is prompt reliable and really knows this business like no one else. Love to see a dynamic lady doing this kind of work. She comes to your home with books and explanations for everything. I highly recommend her.

Just before the nightmare with…read morethe entertainment center debacle was about to start, I brought Sandra another client during the same time I was collaborating with her on an entertainment center. This new client I brought in I have just designed a beautiful new kitchen layout. They hired me to completely redesign their entire home with a budget of 350K, and they had moved out of their home. I would have been an amazing project with Sandra and I. I stated to Sandra we had around a 50K budget for the kitchen cabinets. Her price ended up being over 110K for just the kitchen only, no labor. I along with my clients were gob smacked by this number. Not once did she even try to save the sale or offer any suggestions of different lines. Looking back, I now fell she gave an outrageous number to blow me off and not to do another project with her. I ended up losing this new client that I truly needed, especially being new to Tucson. When I reached out to the client, he stated to me, "Your pricing is just too high for us, we are getting the cabinetry and kitchen you designed for us for 42K". Granted a different cabinet line and I am sure they made changes but still. I lost a 350K project over an outrageous number provided for cabinetry. Like the entertainment center project, I was disappointed in Sandra with her lack of concern and professionalism or trying to meet the client's budget. Two months later she wanted to bill me for using my drawings to put into the computer to present to them for the sale. I said that you will have to ask the client not me. I was not hiring you, they were. If you do not ask for a deposit or explain your charge to put my drawings into the computer this is not my fault, it is yours. So, no will never work with Arizona kitchens again, nor refer, nor do I recommend, which is terribly sad as they have a beautiful showroom much like my old one, but the service is just not there. It took us 6 weeks to finally sign the contract and put down the $6000 deposit for our mater bathroom. During that time she has reconfigured the designs and charges 5 different ways. I will check in again, when the work is complete! So far, we are impressed. We think this design studio is about 1/3 more then putting the project together ourselves but we look forward to amazing results.

Their team is terrific too. Nick is affable and so easy to work with -- he is knowledgeable and makes sure work onsite is done correctly. We've worked with other companies where the field supervisor has "checked out". Not Nick -- he's dependable and responsible, characteristics you need in a project manager. Carrie, their office manager, is organized and kept us updated in a timely manner. Sometimes things go awry, but they made sure we were taken care of. They stand behind their projects and make sure any subcontractors warranty their work. Case in point: our bathroom remodel was completed 3 years ago. There was a breach in the wax seal in the toilet. Nick brought the plumber by and they took care of it. That's customer service! Because they are so good they are in high demand. You might have to wait several months as they have so many on-going projects, but as long as that expectation is there it's worth the wait.

I had repeatedly expressed to her that I had never worked with an interior designer before and that she would need to guide me through the process. She did give me the run down of what to expect 'overall' but nothing more than that. When I asked her for a open concept she told me it couldn't be done and that 'you can't always get what you want', when I suggested adding some columns to open up the space, she said 'ya we can do that'. With the years of experience that she has I would have thought that she should have made the recommendation. When she provided costing for the remake of our Master Bath/Master Bedroom/ Master closet it seemed extremely high considering we were using existing plumbing and drainage that was already in place, I asked her to see an itemized list to verify the costs. Her reply was 'I don't itemize, I ran the numbers again and they look good.' It would be weeks on end before I would get a reply back from here and I almost always had to be the one to initiate the contact. I was extremely frustrated with the whole process and actually dreaded working with her. To this day I still don't have final plans, but had to let her go, because I realized that we would not be a good fit. So I just have to just chalk up the $3,000 I paid for the plans as a learning experience. But on a good note, I did find another designer that is AWESOME. Very responsive, very budget conscious and just a joy to work with.

Super cool space in the Benjamin Supply building, and every show is jaw dropping intricate contemporary art. It's not a huge gallery, and the hours are not super convenient, it is worth the effort. When so many galleries are going out, this one has been coming in with pieces you would only see in New York or L.A, right here in Tucson.

I would include photos of that disaster here but your eyes would hurt. I immediately started contacting several designers. Most didn't return calls. A few said they were booked for at least a year. Helen was the only one who contacted me. I was lucky I did because this small kitchen, comprising a tiny kitchen and tinier laundry room would require Swiss Army knife precision to: - combine the kitchen and laundry room - give me more floor area - create a logical work space - add much more storage - adhere to my minimalist aesthetic. Helen wasn't scared away and her design nailed my bullet points in only a few sessions. I had no timeline for completion because I've managed construction projects in a past life. I wanted Helen and her construction team to take their time and deliver quality. As I expected, this old house presented several major challenges during the demo and build phases. All were addressed logically and successfully. The cabinet installation was a true jigsaw puzzle because the small space meant tolerances had to be exact. This was probably the toughest part of the total remodel and it was fascinating to watch it all get assembled. I'm very pleased with the results. The appliances are superb, the flow to do basic tasks in this new space is so natural and intuitive, and, I no longer have the ugliest kitchen in my neighborhood. It's a surprising show stopper when people visit: so much kitchen in such a small space. Having managed large projects, the key to success during the process is having patience and an understanding that mistakes happen. It made this complex remodel relatively pain free and the result was worth it!
