I'll admit I was "profiling" but I'm always on guard when I walk into what is ostensibly an Asian restaurant and I don't see a single Asian face. I had this same feeling at Long Island Pekin (unfortunately they're no longer open) and was happily wrong... but unfortunately my fears were borne out here. Not that the food was bad... I enjoyed what I had. BUT this was more like an American idea of what a Mongolian BBQ would be like. Mongolian BBQ restaurants used to be ubiquitous on Long Island back in the early 80s and 90s. I was first introduced to the concept at Homer's International located inside the Best Western Hotel in Woodbury. During the day they had the typical meats (beef, pork, chicken and shrimp) but at night they'd often introduce more exotic fare like rabbit, venison and alligator. The last bastion (at least that I've found) of those old Mongolian BBQs is at the Islandia Buffet. Many years ago they replaced the traditional round, domed grill with a Hibachi grill but the concept is still there. AYCE Mongolian BBQ has a round grill, but it is not domed; it is flat with a hole in the center. They had the expected proteins (chicken, pork, beef) and vegetables but were missing the bean sprouts I love so much. The sauce selection was also "off." No hot chili oil, no garlic, no brown sauce. Instead there was an odd collection of Louisiana hot sauce, teriyaki, Korean BBQ and other flavors. Instead of you pouring it over your meats and vegetables they wanted you put it into a little metal cup and hand it over to the cook at the grill. This made it tricky if you wanted two different sauces. Also odd for an Asian restaurant was the fact that I didn't see any rice anywhere. Anyway, the food wasn't BAD but as this place is almost 50 miles from where I live and the Islandia Buffet is so much closer (and more authentic in my eyes) I doubt I'll be back. It was a nice experience, the wait staff was friendly and attentive and the price was reasonable. It just doesn't rate five stars in my eyes. read more

Showed us the set up and explained the menu and cooking process. Seated us with menus. Has a fast food joint feel with booths and small tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In conversation with the manager, the owner has all 3 establishments made up from the former friendly's location in middle island. There's no rice in the food bar, but if you ask when you get to cooking station, it's available. There's also a soup of the day included, which was tomato. Looked and smelled good, but didn't have any. My main disappointment was the food selections looked like alot of canned vegetables and fruits. Except the bok choy & onions. And the proteins looked like they were sitting out a while, and we were literally only people there. Granted it was a very rainy Wednesday late afternoon, and we were inbetween work meetings. Absolute worst buffet I have ever been to. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My family and I came at 6pm on a Saturday night and we were the only customers there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There were only a few employees working but they were hopping back and forth from this restaurant to the crepe shop next door so most of the time, my family and I were completely alone. The employees were even wearing the shirts from the other store so it felt like this Mongolian grill was just a side business for them. Our family opted for the seafood add on for $5 so our total for dinner was $27. The salmon was inedible, definitely frozen and the scallops were so tiny. All the meat options were dry and chewy. Surprisingly, the best meat I had wasn't even meat at all - it was the imitation chicken. That was flavorful and not dry. None of the options were fresh, even the vegetables! The broccoli was soft but somehow no flavor was absorbed into it. The sauce options were really good so it made for a good stir fry but for $27, it was just an overpriced plate of noodles. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner! This spot is shared with Meltology. The entrance is on the right! There are clear signs that state this, so you won't get confused! We were welcomed and brought to our table. The process was easily explained as we haven't been here before. You can go up to the buffet as many times as you want. Pick your noodles, veggies, protein and sauce. Bring it to the grill table and wait. Seafood is a small $5 upcharge. There is also a small salad bar and tomato soup available. I don't see how tomato soup goes with stir-fry, but it's still available. We ordered our drinks. My boyfriend chose a long island iced tea and I had some banana cocktail. I don't remember the name. He didn't like his drink at all. It said it tasted like it was from a mix. My drink was okay..a little sweet but okay. We also placed an order of fried green beans. I enjoyed them! Sorry, I do not have pictures of the buffet, but lots of options are available for you to chose. I did the seafood option, so that was primarily my stir-fry dishes. Shrimp, scallops and salmon! Tilapia was also a choice. The seafood is located near the grill. You have to show the chef your seafood card and they will add it for you. Lots of veggies to choose from and sauces! My favorite sauce was the spicy honey garlic. It paired well with everything. My boyfriend enjoyed as well! We did notice that depending on which chef cooks your stir-fry, your meal will taste different. For example...my boyfriend said that the first time his steak was over cooked and the other times it was perfect. For me, the first time I only got a few pieces of shrimp and other times I got a lot more. Also the first time the sauce was a bit burned for him as it was on the grill too long. The space got split in half with Meltology on the left (entrance is in the front) and AYCE Mongolian BBQ on the right (entrance is on the side). The restaurant shares the beverage area. Keep in mind, the restaurant recently opened so it still has kinks to work out. Not sure if it's soft opening or not. We were welcomed and brought to our table. They asked if we wanted any beverages and explained the process. Pick your items: salad, meats, noodles, vegetables then pick your sauce or condiments, wait for the employee to grill your food on the round grill top (basically stir fry). Due to the constant usage, the tongs needs to be maintained (it was a bit sticky). 1) Salad (2 types of greens + 7 ingredients) + salad dressings 2) Limited meat options (4) + Tofu 3) Noodles (4) 4) Vegetables (21) The service was good and the servers checked in and ask if you would like a refill. I'm giving 2 stars specifically just for the staff there. Our server was absolutely lovely and gave great service. However the food, not so great. I grew up going to Mongolian bbq all the time in Southern California so when I saw there was a Mongolian bbq near where I live now in Long Island I was excited. What I'm used to is meat being visibly frozen in the area where you select your meat, however this meat looked like your average raw meat. Atypical for any Mongolian bbq place I've been to in the past, but I admit, I don't know much about serving raw meat in a buffet style so I overlooked this. The sauces was the make or break portion of this. At places I've been to in the past it's more of a build your own sauce situation. Where you have containers of sesame oil, Mongolian sauce, ginger, garlic oil, etc. With a menu up top giving suggested mixes based on sweetness and heat to your taste. At Ayce they simply have an array of sauces where you just choose one. They had some options that made sense such as teriyaki, sweet and sour, and the like, but what truly threw me off and made me realise that I definitely was not about to have my typical Mongolian bbq experience was they had an option of classic bbq sauce. Mongolian BBQ is one of my favorite types of restaurant, and i was excited for weeks prior to trying this place. Unfortunately, my expectations were disappointed. While a pretty decent price for AYCE, a lot was left to be desired in terms of food quality, options, and preparation. First, when I went during weekday lunch hours, the place was almost empty and the food looked as if it had been sitting for some time. Several of the vegetable options look wilted and not fresh. The meats were a similar story. Also dissapointing that sauce options were relatively weak, and the meat was all very lean cuts. An even larger complaint was that the guy manning the cooking station on that particular day was clearly new or inexperienced. The vegetables were almost completely raw by the time he was done with our dishes, and we actually asked him to throw our food back onto the cooktop for a bit longer after trying it out. I wouldnt trust the pork here. Even once fully cooked, the food was pretty tasteless and didnt seem high quality, even by the standards of relatively quick and cheap mongolian bbq places that generally exist. I do think the idea of having ayce mongolian is great, but perhaps changing to a per lb/per bowl model would help this place improve the quality. They share a store front with Meltology, so when you're facing the building, the entrance is to the right, on the side. This was our first time here. The hostess was very friendly and helpful. She gave us a quick tour and run down to how things worked. We sat down with menus for appetizers, which were an additional price and liquor drinks. The restaurant area was fairly small, about 20 tables and booths. The first part of the buffet area was salad, fixings, and dressings. Then was the proteins, chicken, steak, pork, tofu. Next were lo mein noodles, rice noodles, etc. And finally, the vegetable area, which had the most choices. You fill up to 2 bowls, which, after cooked, will fit on the plate (but it is all you can eat). Next, you head over to the sauce buffet area, with about 12 varieties. Fill up your cups, and take them to the grill, where the Chef (who was very friendly) will cook it all together. We were here around 1pm on a Thursday, and it was empty, so the process was smooth. I can not believe it would be as efficient when more crowded. When we arrived back at our table, we were served bowls of white rice. My husband really enjoyed his meal - he went back for a total of 3 plates. I wasn't as pleased and only had 1 plate. I felt the chicken, after being grilled, was dried out, and the steak, although tasty, was chewy. It was nice to try something different, but I'm not sure we would go back. read more

I was surprised and delighted to find this restaurant in my neighborhood, and decided to give it a try. It was my lunch on Friday, and there was very little customers inside. I've had other Mongolian BBQ before, and I assumed this place was run by Asian people just like any other Asian restaurants. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see young American guys running the shop. They were very friendly and attentive. I could see they were trying to make customers happy. I want them to be successful, but the food was just OK. Some items were empty and some looked too dry. I've tried 2 plates, and I kept getting the black residue from the grill. It looks like they need to clean the grill better after each serving. And their cooking skill needs to improve. I hope they get better, and do well. read more

Tried AYCE Mongolian BBQ for a casual birthday dinner for my mother in law. The restaurant was super clean and the staff were very friendly. The food was good - lots of variety of veggies and sauces to make a delicious stir fry made right in front of you. I do think this place is a hidden gem and the business needs to get the word out because it was a great, affordable meal. I deducted one star as the AC was broke and it was a little warm in the restaurant. I also wish they had spicier sauces - most of what was offered were sweet. However, everything was very tasty! Of course, there were two people ahead of me so I had to watch their food being cooked first. I picked beef cuts, pineapple, carrots, onions, scallions and sweet pineapple teriyaki sauce. While I waited for my food to be stir fried I had a small bowl of creamy tomato soup. I can say that the soup was very good. When the food was finally cooked and ready about 10 minutes later, it looked appetizing. However, the flavor was just Blah. It really didn't have much by way of flavor. I added soy sauce and essentially that did enhance the flavor a bit. Sadly, our waitress never came back to the table and I had to go back up to the circular stove and ask the cook for water. Our appetizers came and they were dry, bland and greasy. I would not recommend them. Fried string beans, spring rolls and fried wontons. Again, just blah and bland. Disappointing. The cook saw that we didn't eat the appetizer and took it off our bill. Overall, I don't think I would return to this restaurant. I really wanted to like this place. The set up is like a salad bar where you pick your noodle, veggies, meat and sauce. Everything looked old. I did like the sauce options as there were many. The seafood tasted really fishy and old. The spring rolls were mushy inside. The wings were good though. The food lacked flavor. The ingredients were barely stir fried together. This is a new concept; these people are ahead of their time. There are healthy options: many types of protein, three types of noodles, veggies in different colors and textures that one can choose from for a stir fry, which is done right before your eyes with the sauce of one's choosing. Ingredients for the assorted sauces are generally listed, but they were quite willing to find out what was in one of the salad dressings. I have food sensitivities, so this is a real plus, because some people frown and look annoyed when I inquire. Also, a nice salad is included. One can be healthy or indulgent and go back for more. Desserts and appetizers are extra. It's an option to pay a little more for seafood. We don't drink alcoholic beverages, but there are many options for those who do. First, the guys working here are awesome, very friendly and helpful! I've been to a few Mongolian bbq places and loved them but this one fell short. Ambiance was not there at all, but the biggest reason is it's too damn HOT in the place! Everyone was literally dripping sweat, customers were going outside in 85F to cool down, the poor guys cooking the food were dripping (Extra salty I guess )! The food itself was not phenomenal, everything was running low. Meat was dry. The bathrooms were filthy. I see how people like "unlimited" servings but how many bowls of noodle creations can you eat? I've been wanting to try this place since it opened. Today I finally got the chance. I'll say the food was decent, It was nice being able to choose our our sauces. The veggies and meats all seemed pretty fresh. We didn't try the seafood option. For anyone saying that the food lacks flavor, well YOU get to choose the flavor. Next to the sauces is an area with spice shakers. I highly recommend using them in addition to sauce. We ended up leaving earlier than we would of liked, the AC was on the fritz. The staff was super accommodating and allowed us to move outside, but by then, both my kids we're getting cranky. So if it does feel hot inside when you visit, ask right away to be seated outside.
