Stopped at Ay Caramba on our way out of town at the Prune Tree Center shopping area at Hwy 101 and Hwy 156. It's a nice little spot with at least 3 large screen tv's hanging on one side of the wall and 4 on the other. And then there's a single larger screen in from of the bar. They had Sports, Cartoons and HGTV on each wall to entertain everyone. They have a great menu that has all the standards but what stood out to me were some of the specials like bacon wrapped Ribeye and Shrimp skewers which I did order. It came with 4 Ribeye pieces and 3 shrimp divided on 2 skewers. We shared it as an appetizer instead of their appetizer menu. They have Salads, Tostadas, Tortas, Sopas, Huaraches, Tacos, Burritos, Specials on menu and Daily Specials off menu. We also ordered a Burrito and two different Taco dishes. Apparently we came on the right night at the right time because they have live entertainment. They announced a singer readying to perform. She sang a variety of songs from contemporary, Latin, top 40 etc. It was a nice evening and if we come to the area, like heading to Monterey, we'll be sure to stop by and try other menu offerings. read more

First time eating here last night with my mom. It was late (7:15) and we had just gotten back into town. Oh my gosh! The food was amazing. I am super picky about my Mexican food and this place did not disappoint. I had the arracher burrito (skirt steak) and my mom had rib eye and lengua tacos. I can't wait to go back. Don't go to this place, they changed the prices very drastically, I don't know if they changed owners because they changed many things, the prices went up too much, the portions are smaller, they charge you $3 if you ask for extra tortillas, the churros used to be 4 pieces now they are 3 . I went with a buddy of mine. We had a couple beers and some of the enchiladas suizas. The service was great. The ambiance is chill. There's a bar you can sit at to watch the game while eating Mexican food. The menu is simple. I got the enchiladas cause to me that's what seemed highlighted on the menu. I'm usually disappointed but this time I wasn't. The enchiladas were great. They give you 4 smothered in a green sauce with a side of rice and beans. We decided to give Ay Caramba a try for lunch. Staff were friendly and the server was attentive. The tortilla chips and three different salsa (red, green and spicy green) were brought to our table before our beverage order was taken. Our server described the three salsas warning us the middle was the most spicy. We both ordered Coke Zero sugar and also received water. We both enjoyed the chips and salsa. I was surprised at the green salsa great flavor, normally not a fan of green. The spicy green was good but was a little too spicy for me to consume too much. The tortilla chips are thick and perfect for dipping into the salsa. We ordered the carnitas torta (Carnitas, mayo, lettuce, onion, tomato, crema and jalapeño with fries) and the Carne Asada Sopes (Order comes with 2. Served with beans, lettuce, tomato, onion, queso fresco and crema). The torta came wrapped and cut in half, which made both plates perfect for us to share. The carne asada torta was delicious, nice and juicy with thinly sliced carnitas combined with the other ingredients made a great Torta. The Asada Sope was a little more messy, so I enjoyed the delicious ingredients with a fork. The surprise was the Sope shell, great fried masa with just enough crunch and a great flavor reminding me of a great tamale. The Fries were another good surprise, nice and crisp with a soft center. Our drinks were replaced with full ones before we emptied them showing an attentive server and bringing additional chips. Our expectations were definitely surpassed during this visit. Lunch cost was reasonable, food was delicious and service was excellent. Restaurant is clean and comfortable. We will definitely return. read more

I ordered a Carne Asada burrito and my wife ordered a chicken burrito. Both were flavorful and the meat was tender. The tortilla is thin and has an excellent flavor on its own. We were one table of about 4 and there were 4 servers. You'd imagine service would be fast - but - it was not. One poor server was doing everything while 3 stood by the bar. However, they charged me for a super burrito that was not made super and they threw away our wrapped up take out/leftovers that we were planning to eat during our drive while I was in the bathroom. We've been here 4 times, and this last time was with my whole family for a birthday. It took over an hour to get our food! Just for it to be mediocre at best. I ordered carne asada tacos... how do you screw that up? The tortillas were completely dry, the meat had ZERO seasoning or flavor and was full of gristle. The beans looked like chili beans from a can, and most of the rest of my family ordered burritos. No one finished them or took the rest home.... It was awful. My husband ordered the huarache and it was so dense and dry he could barely cut through it. Again, I wanted to like this place and give them another chance, but we won't be returning. What happened to Ay Caramba? It seems like their food is not has good as it once was. Had the enchiladas with chicken and it came so dry, that I couldn't eat it. Sent it back and went for a chicken quesadilla. That was just OK, but it came cut in half not cut in a pie shape. So I had two large pieces that I could not share with others. After this experience as well as another experience a few weeks ago. I doubt that I will return to this restaurant. read more

This is one of our favorite eating spots in Prunedale. We primarily order the burritos, salads, and quesadillas. We usually order take out, but the few times we have eaten in service has been good. They make their own tortillas, which just add to the yumm factor of the food. Music nights are a bit loud for us, and the temp inside runs cool (but I get cold easily). read more

Good news is I think they know were they might be weak, and can only improve from there if attended to. seems to be happening on weekend eves/night. I would love this place to be great. My husband had his usual shrimp taco meal, while I had my go-to tostada salad. This time, I asked the kitchen to choose my meat for me and they did not disappoint when I was served with lengua. It was tender and exquisitely seasoned (better than my mom's and auntie's). The guy behind us who looked like a regular there apparently ordered lengua also, and I can just imagine how pleased he was with his dish as well. It was nice to have lunch outdoors with our well-behaved puppy - the restaurant had several tables/chairs outside with plenty of outdoor patio heaters. To Americanized for real Mexican food here. I ordered the pastor tacos with corn tortilla and it was to sweet. By the time I removed all the pineapples from them, only contained about half the size since they were mixed with the meat. The tortillas were super thin and no heat on the salsa they gave us on our to go order. The order also comes with a small little container of rice and beans. Rice was bland. Beans were the best thing in this order. The beans reminded me a backyard bbq with bacon cooked in it. Also it seemed that some stale chips were mixed with fresh ones in our bag. Maybe due to end of day? Maybe this is good Mexican food for this area but I'd say go somewhere else where the grease and heat flowing out the thick tortilla and more bang for your buck. read more
