We drive an hour for this dentist but it is twice a year and FV is a really cute area. We have a few requirements. *Very small office. Preferably one or two dentists. * Place that could see our whole family Place that is good with people with anxiety as I have extreme anxiety and PTSD Now because I have anxiety my Husband went first and 'checked' it out. He was pleased and said it would be a good fit for us. So I got an appt. Then we decided to make an appt for my son and he got in faster then my appt as I assume there was a cancellation and we got lucky making the appt. My son went in and liked it a lot and the hygienist (I think Alex?) was great and so was the dentist. My appt was today and it was a breeze and everyone was very nice and I was happy with everything. If you struggle with anxiety you should go here. They didn't make me feel bad about anything. And thankfully all 3 of us are cavity free.

From the moment I walked in, I felt at ease and knew in my gut that this was the only place I would ever allow dental work of any type. I coulddn't be happier with their advise, coming up with a proper plan of action and people who actually care for my needs and not just drill, fill and over bill. They give the exact care which needs to be given without performing unnecessary procedures for extra money out of the patients pockets. I honestly respect each and every person there and highly reccommend MSD to anyone for all aspects of dental work needing to be acomplished. The appointment was at 4pm, I received a call at 1:50pm asking to reschedule AGAIN! Mind you this would be the 2nd time rescheduling because of them, this time I'm overly upset because I traveled 6 hours to bring her here FOR NO REASON! The person who called to inform me seemed to have no empathy for my frustration, seemed like he couldn't care less. He gave me a recommend office that does not even accept Medicaid, and I would have to do an "introduction appointment " to that office so she wouldn't even get the cleaning that her original appointment was for. The unfortunate part of using Medicaid with healthcare is that in return they treat you like you're not important! It's already hard enough finding an office that accepts Medicaid, then I do and it's just not it. To reschedule someone twice is outrageous, to not have a care that you're having to reschedule someone is something that bothers me. Unfortunately when using Medicaid you're treated like a number and not a person. Then dentist offices wonder why children's teeth are terrible, it's because we CANT get them help. I just moved to NC, I called 10 offices to get my daughter seen which none accepted Medicaid. This office was 45 minutes from me, that's how far out I had to look just to get my daughter seen. Just to keep being pushed aside with no care in the world, now this is a 12 hour trip I'm going to have taken for no reason, thanks so much.

There are some good office staff also. I went to Royal Oak Dental yesterday to have a temporary crown removed and a new crown put in place. The person that was to remove the temp crown started working on me but it was painful and I didn't know what to expect . This person was tugging at pullng the temp crown off pulled back with the instrument she was using and cut my lip she was not aware she did that until she saw the blood. I didn't have trust in her after that. Treat a patient like a person not a machine. I eventually had a numbing agent . Dr Smith is very clever and I believe he is good at what he does. He finally came along and gave me a perfunctory one liner that could infer I was responsible for this injury. He did what he had to do with the crown and stated he would come back when I had numerous xrays. Dr Smith never came back he must have got too busy.

She took her time with me as opposed to other dentists who just pop in for five minutes at the end of your appointment. Her assistant Gabby, was also really friendly and polite and tried to make the x-rays as easy as possible. Lynn at the front desk went out of her way to get me on the schedule and call my insurance to see what would be covered and when since I am on a recently purchased insurance plan. I had a really questionable dentist back in CA and avoided going to the dentist for a while when I moved out here. I guess you can say Dr. Schtakleff has restored my faith in dentistry :P. She didn't pressure me into fancy dental gadgets/procedures but told me affordable ways to manage my teeth and stop any issues before they get worse. She even did my cleaning herself! Another major plus is that the entire practice was crystal clean! Everything from the bathrooms to the sanitized tools, to the fact that both Gabby and Dr. Schtakleff are decked out in surgical scrubs! You had me at "hygiene."

They had not seen the dentist for any work. I went in because my tooth was killing me. I could not tell which tooth was hurting me because I was in so much pain. They did $345 of X-rays and the dentist looked in my mouth, NEVER TOUCHED ANY OF MY TEETH TO FIGURE OUT WHICH TOOTH IT WAS, she looked only at the X-ray and said it's two of my teeth. Sent me to an oral surgeon to have them removed. Well, they were not the teeth hurting me but now I don't have two teeth. She then would not send a referral over for the actual tooth that was killing me. I went to a new dentist and they said yeah that tooth has to be removed that it can't be saved. So now three teeth gone instead of one. I should have had the choice to remove the two teeth that were not hurting me. The oral surgeon is a whole other story. I told him no one had touched my tooth and before I spent $1000 to have them remove is he sure those are the ones hurting me. Well, as we know he made a mistake too. Total failure on them. A dentist and an oral surgeon should actually touch your teeth before removing them and do a cold test or tap test or something. I don't understand how none of this was done. I was in so much pain I was relying on a dentist knowing what they were doing.
