A day after 2 Burley Men ripped me off for $1000 (losses combined with wasted time) to move only part of a tiny one bedroom apt - taking 7 hours with 2 people to move a bed, a few bookcases and some (under 50) boxes ...and then took an hour to get my stuff from downtown to James Bay, and then left my stuff unattended so often (regularly disappearing to go get stoned and go on their cell phones) that several expensive and irreplaceable valuables of mine were stolen right off the truck - this sweet man tried to think of ways to help out and do whatever he could to complete the task and try and make me feel better. Shine on, sir(s), love ya!

Phil the Handyman out of Victoria BC has a lot of glowing testimonials on his website, but we were…read moremost unhappy with his work. Phil was hired to do several jobs in our house, which he promised would be completed in a specific amount of time. The trouble was, Phil was hardly ever on site, and months of sporadic activity passed with the project less than 50% complete. We kept voicing concern to Phil about the lack of progress, and he kept saying he was waiting for materials from suppliers. However, when we phoned these suppliers, we were told that almost all the materials were either readily available in town or could be delivered in less than a week. Had Phil's apparent lack of dedication to complete the project in a timely manner been the only negative element we might have gritted our teeth and continued with him, chalking it up to experience - but it was not! The work was hardly up to the level of professionalism that Phil advertises on his website. In fact we were mortified by much of the work done, which seemed to us to be shoddy, to say the least. Corners were definitely cut. And no one element of the project was completed before the next was started, which left our household in continual chaos. Eventually we parted ways with Phil the Handyman, forfeiting some of our deposit. We had to have others complete the unfinished portions of the job and re-do several of the elements Phil the Handyman had done. Now, more than a a year later, more elements of the work that Phil the Handyman actually did are failing! For example, the expensive faucet he installed just "exploded"; floor tiling has started to lift; caulking around the tub is no longer bonding, and water is now infiltrating underneath and creating a mold situation. There is an expression that "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing." In our opinion Phil the Handyman has but a little knowledge.

I would recommend Tracy for your projects.

I hired Russ to redo my front yard. I am a senior on a fixed income with an artificial hip. I…read morepaid him 1/3 of the cost on signing a contract on April 25/16. He sent a man and woman on April 29th for 5 hours. They cut up the front lawn and left. On May 3rd Russ and a different young man came and worked for 6 hours, covering the "spine" he planned to build diagonally on the top for the garden, put down 2 pieces of landscape cloth and transplanted a rhodo, a Rose of Sharron and dug up and moved my trailing roses and another plant. They also brought enough bricks to do partly do 1 row of the front wall and he put down a base of cement, but it was neither straight nor level. He said he needed the 2nd payment, which I gave him so I am now out almost $2000.00! On May 5th Russ came alone for 3 1/2 hours and lay down a row of bricks on the crooked and uneven cement and cemented them down. On May 9th he came for a few minutes and I complained and said that I wanted it straight and level and finished along the side. The next day he came for 2 hours to supposedly straighten and level the cement but the wall remained both uneven and crooked. On May 16th he and the young man came back for 2 hours and put some dirt on the landscape cloth that I had had to cover in boards to keep from blowing away after I called to complain. I told him I wanted the wall level, straight and finished down the side as his plan showed. I never saw him again until May 31st when he and Shawn came back for 3 hours and put even more cement to actually cement down the crooked and uneven bricks. After many phone calls, he finally came back on June 19th with another man who he said was going to complete the job. That man, Dan, was to come the next day. A week later I called him and he said that Russ had not given him any money and so he had quit and would not finish anything. I have called and called. His inbox is full and his cell has been cut off. Dan gave me his other cell number, but he never answers. I have a mud hole in my front yard and am having to have another company come to give me estimates to get the work done. DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN!!! He owes me money but has many excuses and simply does not answer my calls.

This is major for us because we have had people who will take it upon themselves to add work and increase our bill. Mo was ethical and very hard working - I don't think I saw him take any breaks / or he took short breaks; needless to say, the work was completed quickly to accommodate another job we had booked. In terms of quality and work, the facia boards and gutters looked to be secure, stable, and look proper. Mo did not go above or beyond what was requested - which we appreciate. Mo will also communicate if something would be unsafe or if it is beyond his skillset. To complete 3 quarters of our house and our full shed / including delivery and clean up / it cost us around $5k - which to me seemed fair. We also asked he take additional garbage which contributed to this. I would definitely hire Mo again. He's very friendly and incredibly respectful / tidy.
