Tracy replaced the caulking around my oversized bathtub. Tracy was very professional and friendly; made me feel comfortable. Tracy was a great communicator on the phone to organize when she would arrive at my home. Tracy explained the caulking process to me as well as advised me how to clean the grout surrounding the bathtub. I am really pleased with the work Tracy did for me. We got off to a bit of a rocky start with the first person they sent over who arrived half an hour late and then didn't think he had the skills to do the job, but management sent someone else the next day who completed the job to my satisfaction. We had a quote back in early December 2019 from Handyman to fix our back deck. A soft spot had appeared in our deck under the vinyl cover. We had a guy come give us a quote and urged us to hurry so he could start work before Christmas. We got a written quote from Handyman Connection which ended up NOT including all of the work we needed done. The quote only reflected part of the deck work and not the vinyl cover materials or labour. The main contractor was very talkative and charming. Then we gathered the extra pricing to reflect all of the deck work. That initial experience was not pleasant. We agreed to proceed with the deck work and understood the work might be done in mid January. We were then convinced to replace our wood rails to get metal rails with lights under them at a cost of $4,000 for materials. We agreed to that upgrade and that was fine. The lights ended up not working and did not go under the full rail area. I am not sure if rails cost $4000 but we agreed. It seems high. I never saw a bill for record of the materials cost. At one point the contractor was trash talking Handyman Connection and trying to negotiate how his work is done "between us". Five months later we almost had a back deck completed. We had to ask over and over to have details completed as per the original quote (again, which did not include all work and materials). The contractor flat out walked off the job I think in May. So we needed a new contractor to step in and complete the work. Handyman Connection was excellent in this regard to make sure someone else completed the work and the project could be completed. We were charged extra to have certain details completed later on. The final bill was never clear. I still do not know what we paid and the stairs are not fully painted. They wanted to charge me approx $250 more to paint the stairs. The discarded wood rails sat for five months in my side yard. I was fed up after 3 months of the confusion and delays. I was quoted $7000 from another company to do similar work and we paid (I think) approx $9000 for a back deck and border rails. The work is complete and looks good, now. I did not like the vagueness of the cost and the urgency to start work and waiting six months. read more

The clerk would ask me to send pictures to her via her email just because she said that she wanted to see the pictures and also will get someone to look at the pictures first. I was asking if they could come and make a quotation which she said no. Next I would have to wait for a day and then I would have to call the next day to leave a voice message to that same clerk just because I didn't get a reply from my email as per her instruction. What I knew is that I called today and the same clerk was confused and it was 10:30 a.m. and she said that she did not receive my voice message. How this is going to be when you did what she told me to do and she knew that I needed an estimate? Next thing, there was a little bit of high and seek and she said that she did not know my email and she had NO problem sending her email to me in 5 minutes before when she asked for mine yesterday. So she likes to do that everyone else? Or she would know if this is a smaller job to start with and she is not so keen? Just that she asked me at all about the details and then she delayed at replying nor calling me back. Next thing, after searching for my email for awhile that she said that she would get someone to come and have a look at the issues. I was asking her why right away now that she would get someone to come have a look at the situation that she could not do it in the first case. She lied about that she had someone to have a look at my pictures. It could be just a lie because I asked her who was looking at the pictures that I sent about the issues. She could not answer me and next thing I said that I would like to talk to a manager and she could lie again this time they are not available and I insisted to talk to a manager and this time she discouraged me by telling me that her relationship with me was not good and so on... I insisted that I would want to talk to a manager and she let me wait and wait and wait and then I would have to make a written complaint. read more

We used Handyman to have some of the trim on our house painted.A painter came to the house to see what was needed and later we got an estimate of $4000 plus taxes from Handyman. Before we got the estimate the painter said it would take him two weeks to do the job so based on eight hours of work for ten days we thought that was a reasonable price to pay and told Handyman to do the painting.We then got a call from Handyman and we were told that painter couldn't do the work but they would find another painter which they did.The new painter,Brandon,was very professional and did an excellent job.Before he started I asked him how long it would take him and he said four days and he did the job in four days and worked approximately 32 hours....so we paid a thousand dollars a day to paint some of the trim.Victoria painters are paid $50 to $70 an hour.If Handyman paid Brendon $70 an hour he made $2240 and Handyman made $1760.We should have got more estimates but the first painter said the job would take two weeks and we were ok with the estimate based on this time frame.Be careful when you get an estimate from Handyman.It does not base an estimate on estimated hours but on the job itself which seems unusual since Brendon presumably would be paid by Handyman based on the hours he worked.I believe Handyman is a franchisee and needs to make a profit on each job but in our case the $1760 is way too much.Next time we will get an estimate from a contractor that works for himself and doesn't use a third party like Handyman.Based on the high quality of work done by Brandon I have given Handyman three stars instead of one read more

The cost of their service is very expensive at approx 100 dollars per hour for the job we had done. For that money I had to have them come back and finish a job that was poorly done and not cleaned up after. Was offered a 100 dollar "coupon" against future work however I dont think they are worth what they charging. I expect that you will pay 2 - 3 times more to have work done by this company, quality of work in my case was not reflected in the price. read more
