I wasn't sure what selection I'd find two hours before closing, but I was expecting at least a few options on display. Thankfully, I spotted a separate upper case that still held three sweet items: a Giant Pecan Turtle, a Honey & Fig Scone and a NY Style Crumbcake, so I ordered those. I would have ordered more if anything was left in the cases. I also ordered a Pink Starburst drink, but I'm pretty sure I was given a Peachy Sunrise by mistake, since it tasted like peach and had cream in it. First visit: Chris's Midtown Café in Chadbourn, North Carolina, is absolutely worth a stop. There's a convenient parking lot right out front, along with plenty of street parking. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by a clean, welcoming space and friendly smiles that set the tone for a great visit. Inside, there's an ice cream counter featuring some unique flavors -- one that really stood out was grape. I'd never tried grape ice cream before, but it was phenomenal. The café also includes a coffee and bakery section called The Sweet Spot, where they're planning to add even more treats in the coming weeks. I'm already looking forward to stopping back by to see what's new. Beyond sweets, the café offers a full menu of savory, home-style favorites, including fried pork chops and a hot bar serving hearty, home-cooked meals. I went with the cheeseburger topped with their homemade chili, and it was perfection -- exactly how a burger should be: juicy, flavorful, and downright delicious. Second visit (breakfast stop): I happened to drive by one morning and saw they were open. I had a little time, so I turned around and went back -- and I'm glad I did. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and it was excellent.
