If you are ever in the Bowling Green, Kentucky area, and you are gluten-free or not, you absolutely must go visit Awaken Bakery | Always Gluten-Free! My husband had to make an unscheduled, quick trip to Bowling Green this week for work. I decided to travel with him. I will never skip a trip to Bowling Green again, just so I can go back to this bakery. I have been gluten-free for 13 years and have tried gluten-free baked products all over the country from Washington state to Florida. Awaken Bakery has absolutely broken the code on gluten-free bread and desserts. My husband does not eat gluten-free unless he takes a bite of something I have. Yesterday, he tried a blueberry scone, shared a toasty sandwich with me, shared a sausage biscuit with me, and also got a lemon cake cup. He said everything he ate, he would not ever have been able to tell was gluten-free and was absolutely delicious. Oh, he also shared my cinnamon roll with me. We devoured that thing in less time than it took to actually order and pay for it! That cinnamon roll was the BEST cinnamon roll I have ever had in my life, gluten-free or not! I also got a mini cupcake sampler that had wedding cake, carrot cake, and a chocolate version that I have not tried yet. Having traveled the country to eat, lol, I can tell you that this Awaken Bakery is one place that I will absolutely put on my list to travel back to any opportunity I have. I wish I hadn't been starving and had taken the time to take photos of their sweet little bake shop and all of our food before we started devouring it, but I did manage to grab a photo of the cupcake sampler, minus one cupcake, the French toast, cup, and the lemon cake cup. Everything was so delicious that I even bought a hat and T-shirt and ball cap from them. I am including a photo of that. The little girl that took our order was super sweet and very knowledgeable. I had heard this was the best gluten free bakery in the state, and while I do not follow a specific diet, I am always interested in trying new things in case they are better than the "normal" version. I got a chocolate donut, a honey brulee cupcake, and a salted honey butter latte. They were all fantastic, and aside from the donut which was a little dense, you could not tell the difference. Its not cheap though, a single donut is $4! and same with the cupcake which if it were a good size would be normal, but this is a teeny tiny cupcake. The shop is cute and the people working were pleasant. Would I come again? Maybe not for me but if I had to get a gift for someone who is vegan or follows a gluten free diet, definitely. read more

My family of five stopped by this bakery on a Wednesday morning in October hoping to eat breakfast. My 3 kids and I are all gluten free. We were staying 30 minutes away for vacation and were so excited to actually eat at a GF bakery! We walked in right at 10:30 and waited for several minutes without being acknowledged as the lady at the counter helped another customer while two other employees stood behind the counter. Meanwhile, another server brought delicious looking breakfast sandwiches out to other customers at tables. However, a lunch menu was showing on a screen above the counter. When one of the other two employees at the counter finally acknowledged us, we asked if it would be possible for us to order breakfast. We were told that they'd already switched to their lunch menu. We asked if there was any way they could still serve us breakfast and were told no. There were 3 small sausage biscuits in the warming cabinet as well as one small container of French toast casserole (4 items... we has 5 people). We were told that we could have those. I noticed that there were frozen breakfast treats in the freezer cabinet. I asked if they could possibly heat some of those up for us to have, and we were told no. Since we needed to feed three hungry children and avoid major disappointment/drama, we bought a couple scones from the room temperature cabinet (the only breakfast items available in that cabinet) as well as those items in the warming case. Everything tasted good, but we were extremely disappointed in the lack of customer service. Despite the food itself being good, I would not recommend this bakery for this reason. read more

Okay. Really. A Gluten-Free place with flavor? I've only eaten the Chocolate Chip Scone and it's the best I've ever eaten. I can't put into words how good it was. I wish I had warmed it but, it'd put me in a coma. I'm not gluten-free but a co-worker (also not GF) wanted me to try one because it's good. These aren't your traditionally shaped scones. By all appearances, it seems the bottom is fried and the scone is baked. I'm not sure how this all happened but, keep it up! The flavor is amplified. If you have food allergies and want fantastic tasting and great quality alternatives this should be your go to Our daughter lives in Louisville and has nothing in a city that size that comes even close to Awakens offerings. Was passing through Bowling Green from Nashville and checked out yelp for a gf spot. So excited to find Awaken! I got a delicious chicken salad sandwich and both dairy free cupcakes! The bread for the sandwich tasted like sourdough (which I love!) I just ate the chocolate vegan cupcake and it was delicious as well! Very rich and chocolatey. Excited to try the strawberry cupcake tomorrow! If you live in Bowling Green, you definitely need to stop in! Bowling Green is so lucky to have Awaken Bakery in our Downtown area. They have the most delicious bread and cupcakes around.
