Highland Pet Resort - Checking in

    Highland Pet Resort

We have been bringing our sweet girl to Highland pet resort since we moved here 1.5 years ago. We…read morelove this place and had never any issues. Our dog loves this place and is always so excited to go there. They always check everything when we get there, shot records, food, snacks, supplement and then we bring a bed , toys, blanket, leash. They even ask if she already ate. They always let me know when her next shot is due. Chris and his wife are always on top of everything, I can't say any other way. Also the girls what walk the dogs, I am assuming volunteers they always so so nice and love the animal. Top place I would definitely recommend!!

I give Highlands Pet Resort 4 Stars, but considered dropping to a 2 or 3. I hope this is read by…read morethe owners. The facility is in a beautiful setting. It is clean and well cared for. The two guys I met are just great - they love dogs, very friendly and just the type of folks you feel safe and confident with when leaving your dog. They treated my dog very well and as any dog owner can tell you - you know immediately from your pet's reaction that you are dealing with genuine love for dogs. I don't know what (if anything) happened. I am also not a vet and cannot say for sure about cause and effect, but I know my 3 year old Lab very well and know what works and what does not work. When we arrived we had two packs of our dog's food. The guy who received her seemed somewhat surprised that we were bringing food. We picked up our dog at 7pm. By the time we got home, our pet began with severe diarrhea. She kept us up half the night and needed to go out frequently. At one point she was unable to control herself forcing a house cleaning at 2am. The problem lasted until the morning when her digestive system has been completely emptied. Okay... maybe a virus, I don't think so. Her temperature was normal and there was not vomiting. I have previously seen this in my dog two times. On both occasions it was the result of giving her food for which she was not accustomed. Again, I don't want to pin something bad on what seems to be very competent and real good folks. However, I do not think I am making a mistake. My dog either got a hold of another dog's food, my instructions were not followed, or one of the guys with all good intentions gave a treat that did not sit well. The reason I left the food is because I am aware of how my dog reacts - perhaps I should have impressed this more, yet they too should have been more careful. So, in the future please consider the importance of what is being fed to a pet. With that said, I would in a second bring my dog back. I do think that this is a quality boarding and day facility.

Compassion Veterinary Center - General Practice and Urgent Care

I can not say enough about Compassion Veterinary Center. My 13 yr old Golden, Meadow, started…read morehaving health issues in December. We had a number of tests, and each time, whichever Dr. provided me the results, explained everything in detail, took their time with me, and the office staff always extremely responsive and compassionate. I must single out Dr Krouse, who I first met last July with Meadow. She sat on the floor with my girl, until my girl got comfortable with her and allowed her to feel her belly. This was not a 2 to 3 minute sit, this was a 15-20 min sit. Dr. Krouse took her time with every visit to ensure Meadow got the best care and that I understood everything. This past Thursday I had to make the decision that Meadow was at end of life. It was not an easy decision, it never is. Dr Krouse talked with me, assured me the time was right. There are not enough words to say thank you for the compassion for my Meadow that was given, the respect, the love that was given to both myself and my girl. She even remembered how afraid of needles Meadow was and took time to ensure she was not scared in her final moments. Dr. Krouse and the entire staff have been extremely kind, compassionate, shown respect to both of us. My Meadow is Resting in Peace, she left this earth in my arms, and thanks to Dr. Krouse and her staff with love and peace. Jill Indelicato Highland NY

More Hudson Valley bush-league bullshit, and the owner comes across like a slick used-car salesman…read moreor religious crusader whose goal is to get people to part with their money. I brought my dog here on a Saturday because my vet was closed, the dog wasn't eating well, and I thought she might have part of a tooth that had fallen out still in her mouth. Compassion's owner scheduled her for a dental procedure the following Tuesday with an estimate that ranged on the high end to about $2,200, adding that he's not trying to steal business from my regular vet. As if. When my regular vet saw the dog on Tuesday, she immediately said, "Her teeth are fine. There's no partial tooth in her mouth." My dog's blood test came back on Monday, and her liver values were high, so Compassion scheduled her for an ultrasound that would have cost $200 more than the ultrasound she ended up having at my vet's office and take two days to read, whereas the sonographer at my vet's office read it immediately. In addition, Compassion's owner called me on Tuesday morning and said, "I thought I was very clear -- the sonographer can't come today" after I had been told that the sonographer would come that day, and then called me back, not to apologize for his haughty tone but to say he was mistaken. In addition, on Sunday when I returned to Compassion to pick up meds, an unhelpful vet who acted like I was wasting her time with my questions said my dog might need fluids overnight when she had not even had fluids during the day, so that made no sense. There is no compassion and a lot of naked salesmanship, overcharginging, and ignorance here. Next time I have a weekend emergency, I would definitely drive the 45 minutes to Guardian Veterinary Specialists rather than deal with this incompetent, unprofessional practice.
