I've had many dogs and have worked with other trainers in the past, and none compare to Kathleen. I'm currently going through obedience training with my German Shepherd puppy, Mila, and it's been a wonderful experience. We adopted our dog, Cooper, when he was 10 weeks old. For the first year of his life, there were no problems. He was friendly to people and was able to run freely and play with other dogs. Then he started to occasionally act aggressively toward people. After a situation wherein he bit someone, I had so many people telling me I had to euthanize my pup. I was heart-broken and did not want to accept that. My vet directed me to Kathleen who gave me so much of her time on the phone. I hung up with such a sense of hope. I took Cooper for an evaluation with Kathleen. I learned that I have a dominant dog who was never properly shown his place in the (family) pack and was without a strong leader. She assured me that, with the proper training for him and for me, Cooper would be ok. She was absolutely right. Cooper has undergone training with Kathleen on an extended basis and she has trained me to work with him. Cooper's anxious mind has been quelled and his aggressive issues have been resolved. Had Kathleen not entered my life, Cooper would likely not be here today. Cooper has spent many a day at doggie day care where he romps all day with his buddies. He has also boarded overnight there. We started seeing Kathleen about our dog, as we were starting to see some aggression issues, not only on the leash towards other dogs, but towards my children as well. Turns out, my dog had some dominance about her and we weren't being enough of "leaders" of the pack for her. I was amazed how Kathleen handled my dog, she showed no fear, and basically had my dog falling asleep she was so calm by the time she was done with her! She did this without treats, without yelling or fear, without special collars, just her "working" the dog on the leash, correcting her misbehaviors and showing her leadership. We continued training lessons with Kathleen, learning how to handle our dog on the leash. She is a great teacher, patient, teaching her students all about dog behavior, so they can better understand why their dogs do the things they do. She trains you in whatever situation you may need help in, we've trained in the busy village of Rhinebeck, in William's store, or just around a group of other dogs coming for lessons. People often treat their dogs like people and occasionally start to run into behavior issues, but Kathleen teaches you how to learn and appreciate your dog, their behaviors, and all that makes them the dog that they are. We also board our dog when we go away and drop her off for the occasional doggy daycare. Kathleen is aware which dogs get along best and Penny always come home happy and exhausted from all the playing. I was looking for a trainer for my recently adopted 2yr.old male rottweiler. He was found tied to a park bench in the Bronx. A rescue group took him in and I adopted him. He was a good dog, but had no training. Cathleen Cano took him into her home for 3 weeks of intensive training. When I got him back, he was a different dog. Very much wanting to please me. We were introduced to Kathleen a few years ago after leaving our puppy rottweiler with what we were told was a high end kennel. After returning our pup was aggressive and dominant and we were in desperate need of a solution. Kathleen was a Godsend. Over the course of a few weeks she was able to bring back that cute lovable puppy we knew and showed us how to be responsible owners of a powerful breed. When we got him a sister we immediately brought her to Kathleen and once again her magic worked as we now have two of the sweetest rottweilers who think they are lap dogs thanks to her guidance. In fact when we go to drop them off they go running over to her to greet her with some kisses and are always happy to go into the large yard to play and get acclimated. We bought a Dutch Shepherd last June and was told at that time that she would need lots of time and attention and excercise, well it was the truth. We soon realized we needed help. We've known Kathleen for years but never had her as a trainer. When she met our Roxie, she said she would take some work but it would be worth it. Kathleen is extremely knowledgeable about all things canine. I have been getting lessons for my dog and every week I am amazed at the difference in his behavior.
