After I took this pic I realized a MAJOR flaw; Wrong date!Disappointed, but glad I finished in spite of ridiculous 1.5 mile hill
    lenaya s.

Disorganized is the best word to describe this race. $40 for nobody around to answer questions or information, no signs to tell you which way to the finish, horrible shuttle system, had to run all uphill on the way back, the shirt size I ordered they were out of and I picked up day ahead of time, finisher metals had wrong date 2/22/14, uhhh ... No 4/12/14!!! I want a refund! Will not be doing it ever again.

    Getting ready the night before!

Amazing event!!! Thank you so much for brining this to our community! I can't wait for next year to run again.

I didn't run the half. As a new runner the 5k was my race, growing up in Fallbrook, I knew how hard it was getting this race going! Hats off to Vicki! I thought everything ran smoothly! Had I run the half, I may have had constructive criticism but my team that ran all loved it! They said it was a challenging run (more so than the San Fran half that they ran in the fall) all in all for an inaugural race, I felt it was AMAZING. The kinks people talked about can be ironed out next year! I would definitely do it again! Fallbrook residents that ran LOVED it! Maybe next year we will get more local support and participants. Great race!

Fun race, well organized, awesome metals & lots of community support. This race has beautiful scenery as you run thru Fallbrook's rolling hills. I'm looking forward to this race again next year!

Great course. I have run a lot of rural races and have not seen another one so well staffed with this many volunteers. I think there were some first-year growing pains that will hopefully go smoother next year. Overall a strong first effort. I will probably run it next year.

The race was so great. It was well organized , packet pickup was very easy, and the race support was great. It was so great doing a race where I live. It made the race experience so much better having people you know cheer you on. There were tons on water on the course and the race was fun, I can't wait till next year to improve my time. Also as a resident who was effected by the road closure I don't care. If I had not been racing I would have gone done and cheered people I or just spent some time at home. It's not like I don't have things to do around the house. We here giving plenty of notice of what was going on. It is one morning a year, not everyday of the week. Great job to the race organizers, can't wait till next year.

Promises promises(!) they deny they made them but here's email proof

Where to begin for my review of the 5KHR Kiss Wine Run...1st off I have to say that I wouldn't have…read moregiven it even one star if that was an option on Yelp. Additionally, I would have posted this review on the Facebook page of the event, but all negative comments, including the one I posted on the day of the race, were deleted unfortunately. I've run multiple 5K's, and have never seen a more disorganized event. At first the communication from 5KHR seemed good, yet as the race got closer it became somewhat apparent that the organization of the race was leaving something to be desired. The continued messages about the lunch option being taken away and/or limited was confusing, and should have been taken as a heads up. Additionally, the information regarding the "custom gender specific shirts" was confusing, as originally direction for attire for the race said to dress up in your Valentine's Day themed attire for a "Best Costume" contest. All of this could be ignored, absolutely, if the event had been well organized, fun, etc...however it was not. 1. Parking was a disaster...we parked on the side of the street because traffic was so bad, which we'd been warned about, but when we walked up to the parking we overheard parking attendants saying that they would be turning people away soon. Are you kidding me?!?! 2. I'd paid extra to receive my swag bag and bib in the mail, so it wasn't an issue for me, so I speak for my friends. The organization for the line to pick up bibs, shirts, and swag bags was ridiculous. The line was long, which we expected, and were fine with. However when in line we were handed bibs by a volunteer, which lead me to consider "how do they know we even paid". Additionally, when we got close to the front of the line, we expected a checklist of names with shirt sizes and such so that you knew whether or not we'd picked up our stuff, which there was nothing. The shirts were just sitting on the table and people were digging through them to grab their size. No bags were available. I understand from your Press Release that was supposed to be an apology letter that they had been stolen. To this I ask where were the employees or volunteers manning this station? Theft wouldn't have been an issue with staff manning the check in. 3. The porta potties...holy cow the porta potties. There were only four...for an event with 1600 participants by your count, and countless spectators. According to porta potty calculators available online, there should have been at least 17 potties, 6 hand wash stations, and 1 handicap accessible toilet available for an event with alcohol lasting 4 hours...according to your count. Four porta potties that were overflowing by 930am is disgusting, unsanitary, and frankly, probably a violation of health policies to say the least, and the lack of hand washing stations makes it worse. 4. The course. Now the course was beautiful, however that is no credit to 5KHR by any means...the credit for that goes solely to Mount Palomar Winery. The preparation of the course including the clearing of it, the release of waves, the marking of the path, the water stations, and the volunteers for safety purposes was atrocious. I personally did attempt to run, but due to the mentioned issues was unable to do so easily. I had to dodge debris all over the course, and even tripped on a two foot piece of wire that was sticking out of the ground on the edge of the course! Additionally, many people were confused by the course as the markers were difficult to see and/or confusing. There were no mile markers to let you know where you were in the run, as well as no defined finish line. When I reached the courtyard party area I hadn't even reached two miles, so ran another lap of the course in order to get my full 5K worth of the run. Many didn't do this due to their frustration. Overall I am beyond frustrated by the lack of organization of 5KHR in this event, as well as the reaction to feedback received. While I understand the coordinator's frustration with actions taken by some participants, I, for one, was not one of them, and am offended by the accusations and lack of official apology. As a coordinator of such an event a certain amount of professionalism and customer service is expected, and was not shown in that letter. Attached are screenshot pictures of the Press Release that is supposed to act as an apology apparently.

As everyone else said, I wish there was a zero star option. I left this race a little confused…read moreabout what the heck just happened: did I just run a 5K? did I cross a finish line? am I dying of thirst? LOL I actually was bummed after I left and then moved on. THEN I got their press release. How offensive and rude of them to take zero blame for everything that happened and to actually blame us the customers that paid. I don't think the behavior they mentioned is acceptable, but I did not behave like this and felt like they were generalizing everyone. I don't think it was unreasonable for me to require: 1. A safe course 2. A clear finish line 3. Water 4. A race bib 5. A race bag 6. Pins for my race bib I don't care about lines, but I do care that I did not receive anything that I paid for. I would avoid 5KHR at all costs, even if it was free. I have organized a few non-profit 5K races and never have I had issues like I saw here. I don't wish to see any business fail, however when a business can't admit fault and offer a true apology they should no longer be in business.

So I've been meaning to come to this festival for ages - just wasn't able to get around to it this…read moretime of the year since I usually either forgot when it was or had something else going on. Finally made it in 2026. Parked in the shaded parking lot of Fallbrook High School and in a short while a comfy air conditioned shuttle bus took a bunch of us up to the 7-11 at the south end of the festival at Main Ave and Fallbrook Street. I had read all the reviews so I knew not to expect a lot of avocado themed items like I would have imagined they might have - avocado beer, avocado wine, Indonesian avocado coffee (es apulkat), avocado shaped bumper cars and other avocado themed fairground rides, folks walking around dressed in avocado costumes, a guacamole wrestling ring, etc. But I did go on a scavenger hunt of all avocado related items mentioned in reviews from years past. The festival is on Main avenue between W Fallbrook Street and E Mission Road on the north end. There were all sorts of booths like you'd see at a street fair or farmers market. There was also The Fun Zone - a huge play area for kids with all sorts of things like a giant slide. So first thing I got was the Holy Guaca-Moly guacamole and chips for ten bucks - it seemed like there was one of these booths at every other intersection along Main avenue. It was good guacamole but you don't get a lot for the amount they were charging. Next I went to the Coal Bunker to try the pork and the shrimp stuffed avocados. They also had chicken as well as quinoa stuffed avocados. Of the two I tried the shrimp most definitely ruled - would get that again. After that I went to Bakin' It Up to try their avocado ice cream and avocado fudge bar - the avocado ice cream was a nice cold treat for a warm day and the avocado fudge was very creamy - no surprise since avocado is the first ingredient listed on the packaging. I also went next door to The Spoiled Avocado, who were also advertising Avocado Fudge. They were giving out samples and this was different - actual chocolate pieces made with avocado oil - they were not creamy but solid pieces in all sorts of flavors - classic, walnut, orange, peanut butter, salted caramel. I also paid a visit to the Fallbrook Gem and Mineral Society which was a nice detour to get away from the crowds. Finally there seemed to be a lot of folks selling boxes of Hass from Del Rey Avocado Company. I would have gotten one as well but instead I got Zutanos from Everdawn Farms and Fuertes from Del Sol Ranch so I left the festival content with my avocado haul.

Very disappointed. Nothing about this was avocado themed. The only thing "avocado" themed were a 2…read moreor 3 guacamole stands every other block. This was just an oversized, overcrowded street market.

I came with a friend to check out this BBQ event. I had never been up to Vista before, let alone…read morethe Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum. The weather was beautiful as a relatively mild breeze kept the temperature in the low-80s. I was so afraid that it was going to be well into the 90s with a scorching sun. We ended up parking in a satellite parking lot down the road which cost $5 instead of $10 in the main parking area. They used a tractor to haul a platform wagon with benches to shuttle us over to the event grounds and back. I loved the fact that the setup was dog friendly so we had a leashed pup with us. After getting our poker-like chips/tokens at the ticket tent, we wandered around the property and checked out the antique exhibits in the barns and warehouses. There were lots of neat, old fashioned vehicles and machines from the early 20th century on display. We then passed by the Tin Roof stage where various competitions were being held (e.g. Miss Q country style beauty contest, watermelon eating, best denim butt contest, etc). Back we went to the row of tents where about 10 vendors were selling their food for 1-4 chips each. To my surprise, the area was not at all crowded, and the lines were quite reasonable. I was under the impression there would be more booths than this, but apparently many teams were present only for the BBQ judging competition and not for selling their meats to the public. :( Of the different items we tried, a few spots stood out... 1) Bacon wrapped meatballs and bacon lollipops from Butler's Barbecue: These were each sold at 2 for 1 token. I wished more vendors had deals like this. The small bites were perfect snacks to get the appetite going for the larger servings. 2) Pulled pork and sausage from Jolley's Bad to the Bone Barbeque: The portion sizes were very generous for just one chip each. The pork was pulled thicker than what I was accustomed to, but the meat was moist and seasoned well. The sausage came as two links that were spiced nicely. 3) Bread pudding from a tent that hung a U of GA flag (no name posted): This was a nice sweet treat to contrast all the salted meat we were ingesting. The crust had a nice caramelization to it. Thank goodness I had heeded Jen G's advice and brought a stash of Ziploc sandwich bags. We had more tokens left than what we could eat on-site so the two of us began redeeming chips and placing the food in the bags to take home as leftovers for a future meal. Initially, we were worried that we would go through our allotment quickly because many items cost more than one chip each. Bringing our own bottles of water along with a picnic blanket to sit under the shade helped us stay cool and relaxed during the afternoon. The lengthy drive to Vista was worth the unique experience. It's always great to meet up with fellow Elite Yelpers at such events. Last but not least, the dog ended up very well fed from the BBQ, probably even more so than the both of us. :)
