-Worst room I've ever stayed in in 50 years of travel. So dark you had to turn the lights on first thing in the morning to find the bathroom. It had one small window that looked out on a large wall 2 feet away that blocked all light from coming in.
-I'd called the day before I arrived to ascertain that they had Internet and was told, 'Yes'. They do have Internet but neglect to tell you that it isn't in your room. I was advised by the owner to sit in the hall outside my room where it was apt to be stronger. It wasn't. I was annoyed at not being able to use Wi-Fi there since I owed my clients back home some updates on documents I was working on. The previous place I stayed had no internet. My business, which I did at night because of the time difference, was backed up. When I expressed how upset I was at being misled, Jack (the owner) couldn't be bothered and abruptly announced, "My bedtime is 10 o'clock!" and left me standing there as he marched off and slammed his door closed.
-Later, their son came down and was good enough to help me find a hot spot in a front room. While we talked, he old me that, "This is our home that we have people stay in with us." Yes, I thought, people who pay you top price for the privilege of doing so in a place with no amenities.
-I was not told anything when I checked in. Nor was there any written information about breakfast hours, etc. As a result, I missed having breakfast by 15 minutes on one day and was not offered the 'Full Irish Breakfast' on the other day that everyone else in the breakfast room was offered and eating,.....to a person. I was being punished by the owners for bothering them about the Internet the night before. This meant that I was either completely ignored or glared at by them from that point on and felt like I was intruding on them.
-The distance in to Dublin (this guest house is in the suburbs) is over half an hour; a ten minute walk to the bus stop, 15 minute wait for the bus, then a 15 minute ride into Dublin proper. Due to the amount of rain I had while there, I usually took a cab to and from the town center.
-Terrible value. This was the most I paid at any guest house during my 3 weeks in Ireland and the most awful in nearly every respect. You'll be able to stay closer in to town for less, and I certainly wish I'd done so. read more
