One of the highlights of the lounge is Alana, the owner. Our group had an uneven amount of players so she filled in as a player so no one was left out. For most people in Manitoba the drink of choices are Beer, Wine and Highballs(Alcoholic beverage + Non-alcoholic beverage, eg. Rye&Coke, Vodka&lime etc). So if you ask for a Cosmo or Martini make sure you can tell Mario (the bartender/owner ) how to make it. Saves money by not having to hire anyone that knows every drink under the sun. They also serve some mean wings for 35 cents on Mondays, now don't quote me on that I haven't been there for a Monday for a year now. the food is great, now unlike other Billiards that I've been to they have a better menu. Aside from wings, fries & chicken fingers, they also have great Pizza, sandwiches, and if your in a budget cheese toast its cheap, filling and c'mon its who doesn't melted cheese on toast. okay so I don't know if I've been Helpful enough, but let me try and paint a picture to you. The music was a good volume, there but not loud enough to interfere with conversation. The other patrons were mostly young and non-threatening. Drinks were $4 each I think? When I went up to order the bar was staffed by an older man, maybe one of the owners? He didn't know what a cosmopolitan was, but poured a decent gin and tonic. Bonus points for asking if I wanted it tall or short. My friends ordered a pizza, which I tried. It was pretty good. The server claimed the bill was "fake" because of how it "felt." No objective verification was provided. The owner later defended the treatment by saying the VLT rejected the bill and that "VLTs do not accept counterfeit bills." **Except another VLT subsequently accepted the exact same $5 bill.** That makes the explanation even more troubling. If the bill had not actually been established as counterfeit, why was my Indigenous husband immediately treated as though he was attempting to use fake currency? This is why I raised racial profiling. Discrimination does not have to involve someone openly admitting racial prejudice. My concern is whether an assumption was made about my husband, and whether he would have been treated with the same suspicion had he not been visibly Indigenous. The owner's response was simply to declare that "there is no discrimination." That is not an investigation and it does not address my concern. I replied asking him to explain the objective basis for dismissing the discrimination complaint. He has not responded. We left feeling racially profiled, stereotyped and humiliated. What makes this worse is the owner's unwillingness to seriously engage with a discrimination concern after it was brought directly to his attention. Indigenous customers deserve to be treated with the same dignity and benefit of the doubt as everyone else. On top of this, the service was already terrible to begin with. Super slow and having to repeatedly ask for service.
