Yesterdays amazing highlights of our Avital Mission tour Nikki's outstanding job and how much you enjoyed learning about the history of the murals and trying out delicious food at the small restaurants in the Mission district. It's great to know that even as a local, you were able to learn new things and have a great experience. recommendation of this tour for visitors and locals alike shows that it's a great way to explore and learn about the city's diverse culture and culinary scene. I'm sure many others will appreciate my honest and positive feedback about this tour, and will be inspired to check it out. we look forward to coming back for another amazing tour with Nikki and Avital tour company!

And it couldn't have been a better decision. We took the North Berkeley Tour and Justin was our guide (who I very highly recommend). Not only was he incredibly knowledgeable about the history of all the delicious food we enjoyed, but he was also so personable and easy to talk to. It really felt like we were getting an insider's view of the area. And of course, the selection of food we had was diverse and amazing too (all of it). The best advice I can give to someone who would like to book this tour is to bring your appetite because you will not be hungry when it's over. In fact, by the time we got to our last stop for cupcakes, we were all so full that we just took them to go. I'm still amazed that we were able to visit so many different places in such a short distance. Many of the foods I tried were new to me but I think it's safe to say I've now discovered some new favorites and will definitely be back. Oh, and for those who like to shop, we passed a few cute places along the way too. This really was a fun experience and a wonderful way to spend the day!

Mission District food tour is more than food tour!…read more Mark is a 4th generation San Franciscan, so he is truly steeped is the city's history. Plus he worked in the food industry for decades and does private cooking classes. He does not show off, but guests can totally pick his brain about anything foodie related and he is more than willing to share. The food focused on Latino dishes, which makes sense, being that it is the Latino neighborhood. From the mission burrito to birria (goat taco), to Mexican pastries and plantain chips and more - everything was tasty. The food is humble and the spots are casual (not gourmet), yet with a great vibe. A huge part of the tour was looking at the murals. I hadn't realized just how many there are (and probably still don't realize). But there are a ton and they are all creative, lively works of art. Lots of bright colors. Mark knows quite a bit about a lot of them, as well as the organization that makes it all happen (from the paint to the hiring the artists). And we wandered in there as well, in between food stops. This tour was a blend of food, art and history - with more art than you will find in most food tours. But it completely worked to enhance the experie

I would personally not recommend this tour. Half of our party enjoyed it so I feel obligated to…read morerate more fairly. I don't think it was a dumpster fire but it's definitely overpriced for what it is, at least what ours was. I think some more knowledgeable tour guides make this really awesome, which is why the reviews are so positive. To start: our tour guide was down-to-earth but mainly apathetic and sarcastic, instead of passionate about food. We wanted to get excited about the food and mission district history, which is why we paid $80. The food itself is worth about $20-25, so the rest of the money is paying for tour quality, in my opinion. Here are the main things that I felt could be better- explanation about why we're going to specific places and ordering specific dishes, and more organization. Secret Food Tours does not seem to partner with the restaurants- our guide was surprised that one place was closed and promised us a dish that we did not actually have. I can tell from the other reviewers that we weren't cheated out of anything- we went to the same number of restaurants that others did- but it does seem like they just go to wherever is open, as there's no reasoning behind why. We went to a Mexican restaurant and got regular mission-style burritos. Then, we went to a Mexican bakery and got conchas- these are not Mission-specific, they're just Mexican (splitting a $1 concha was the kicker for me- why? What if I was alone or in a group of 5?). We went to a different Mexican bakery and got honradas, which you also have to split. It kept me from being full, but it seems badly organized. Next, we got these Filipino fusion tacos, and last, we went to the secret stop. I won't give it away, but it's wildly popular and we've already been there before. It's also not related to Mission District, or even Mexican, culture in any way. We got a very limited menu choice- tea, hot chocolate, or a chocolate milk that our guide said was not recommended. Well, after all is said and done, I cut my losses. I had a lovely day walking with my friends through SF eating food, but I really could've found these places on Yelp in seconds. Save $60 bucks so you can pay for parking!

For anyone not hardcore Chinese, like myself, this tour is a necessity for braving the Andrew Zimmern-like delights of Oakland Chinatown. I mean, let's face it. Many of us are are going to have at least some amount of trepidation about diving right into the restaurants & markets of Oakland Chinatown. But with Carlo's trusty & knowledgable guidance, we were all able to relax & really enjoy the wonders that this non-touristy Chinatown has to offer. & it wasn't all about food. Though there was more than enough downright delicious food at each our 4 restaurant stops to stuff all of us, even with plenty of walking during the tour. The Oakland Chinatown tour also had a healthy helping of history mixed in that deepened the understanding & appreciation of this neighborhood. Savor Oakland Food Tours' tour of Oakland Chinatown was truly a mouth-watering & eye-opening experience. Knowing what a great tour this is, I know I'll have to check out their Jack London Square tour sometime.

More importantly, the food was delicious and I was quite full at the end! If it wasn't for Yelp, I would never, ever heard about this tour, let alone be in Oakland. Jokes were awkward and he was hard to follow as he was sort of distracted and all over the place in his remarks. There was a lot (too much) of standing around and talking on this tour which made the 3 hours seem super long. There was also a couple of weird co marketing stops at a store and a show where we were offered discounts for purchasing from other vendors. Zero pressure and everyone was super nice but it just didn't feel authentic. Food was good but I never hit a spot where I was compelled to come back to. Then I went on the Mission food safari a few months later with a cousin. The difference between the North Beach and the Mission food safari is night and day. Chef Joseph did a great job on both but the Mission tour is more like an intro of the history, people, and the neighborhood with by the way this place has great tacos. So while your on the North beach tour, you will be snacking the whole time, picking up little things here and there at all the great places he recommends. On the Mission, you will come out with a great history, architecture, and art lesson and a little hungry. One thing to be aware of is that the Mission is a rough neighborhood. Its a mix of city workers, homeless, and some residents, with police strolling by to keep unlicensed peddlers on the move. My well traveled cousin described the Mission as a mini Tijuana lol.
