My husband went to return the car and no one was in the office except a dog. He waited 20 minutes and no one came. He needed to make sure they know we turned in our car. We didn't use the "after hours drop off" because it wasn't after hours and we would be charged. He tried calling Avis and was on hold for probably 15 minutes. He finally got someone but they said they couldn't help him. On his third call to Avis he finally got someone to help. Did you know these calls to Avis are sent to a call center in India? We could barely understand the woman plus all the background noise of others answering calls in the same room. I've never heard my husband so angry and frustrated. He said he will never rent a car from Avis again. The car had dents all over it and the carpet was ripped and coming up, we didn't care because we were just going sightseeing by ourselves. read more

Monique is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. This woman saved me! I was visiting from Las Vegas and our car broke down and we had to leave the next day. I desperately had to be home that night. I was traveling with my dog, a family member and we had our kayaks, luggage, dog stuff, camping gear, etc., so getting on a flight was the last option because of the amount of things we would have to check in. We NEEDED a car. I called every single car rental business in Southlake Tahoe, Carson City, and Reno specifically enterprise rent a car. I told them my situation and there was nothing anyone could do because there were no cars. I called Avis and told Monique my situation. She called me back a few hours later and told me she was able to get me a car. I get to her and she says because this is a small business and she owns the cars she doesn't let people do one ways and I would have to bring it back. She then proceeded by saying BUT I will make an exception because I don't want anyone stranded in Tahoe. If it wasn't for this woman I would have spent hundreds if not maybe a thousand dollars to get all my bags checked in and also would have probably had to throw away our kayaks and camping gear. Nicole at Avis in the Golden Nugget was awesome. She was there early, listened to the disaster service i was experiencing with Enterprise and assured me she would solve my problem. Rented a car from this location with an 8am pickup. The location was staffed by one women who was very frazzled because there were 7 people in line. She kept yelling I'm going as fast as I can! She not only had to process the reservation, she then had to run across to the garage to get the car for you! I've been in line for an hour now and still 1 person in front of me. I was the 3rd person in line. Avis! Fix this! I won't rent from you again. read more

Total incompetence. We waited for about an hour for her to serve one customer. All the cars were dirty/ unwashed. She told us we could take a dirty car or nothing despite our reservation. Avoid this business! read more

Monique deserves a raise--I was stuck in Tahoe due to winter storm conditions, and she took care of me/ensured that I was able to get an SUV so I could get back home to San Francisco. She also handled the stress of renters + car rentals during a winter storm super well, which also helped a lot to calm me down. She is a shining example of Avis's in general, great customer service, but also went above and beyond when she cared about my safety and proactively ensured I would be ok, and she is now my definitive--as opposed to vague--reason why I can recommend Avis over any other car rental company. I'm also in consulting, so when I was deciding between which rental company to earn status with, I asked my consulting peers and the majority recommended AVIS for various reasons (better customer service, and better cars in their top tier loyalty program), and now I can do the same but with a lot more opinion and conviction behind it due to my personal experience with Monique. Seriously, she is the best--and if anyone from AVIS is interested in the details, don't hesitate to ask for a recommendation! I would genuinely love to see her groomed for leadership and promoted so that she can help lead the company by example, we need more Monique's in the world!! Shoutout to Lake Tahoe Resort as well for their great hospitality and for holding the keys at the front desk during AVIS after hours (I opted for AVIS Preferred status which allows me to do key pickups without having to go through the counter, so I think that's why that was possible). read more

This is my 1st time renting with Avis and like with any big corporation I had concerns about customer service. Fortunately for this location it is operated and owned by a local name Monique who will make this the most seamless and easy rental transaction you could ever have. She remembered where I was going on my trip asked me how my tournament went and took the time to make sure I didn't leave anything in the car and thanks to herI retrieved my garage door opener. omg. five stars across the board. Avis literally saved the day after we were basically stranded in South Lake Tahoe when we needed to at our Airbnb in North Lake Tahoe. After Hertz completely screwed us over and had no cars for us even though I made reservations weeks in advance... it was about 30 minutes to closing time and we nearly ran out of options, that's when I called Avis and someone named Sean picked up and said he'd be able to help us out and to run over before they closed. He was so busy with everyone, i'm guessing a lot of people had the same issue we did but he was efficient & SO KIND and helpful, especially despite being so busy this close to their closing time. he worked out the best possible deal for us to pick up in South Lake Tahoe and return in Reno. it all worked out thankfully and if it weren't for his help the second half of our trip probably would have been ruined. i cannot thank Avis & Sean(i'm pretty sure that's his name) enough and for doing everything they could to help us out with a last minute car without reservation AND returning in a different location during one of their busiest seasons. thank you thank you thank you. Got good rates through Costco Travel. Check back every week or so to see if they change. I started at a rate of 150 for one way to San Jose and ended up paying 83. Yes not cheap but better than the earlier booking Staff friendly and cars were clean. read more

We rented a car at the Reno airport, and then drove through the mountains to get to South Lake Tahoe. Along the drive, the car started beeping, and a light started flashing. The road is mountainous and climbs to 7000 feet, so we were concerned about a problem but more concerned about not falling off a cliff. We pulled over, but the light and the beeping disappeared. When we got to our hotel, we called the rental office in Reno, and they referred us to the office in South Lake Tahoe, a block from our hotel. I called and spoke to Monique who was very helpful, and said that she would do what she could to help us figure out what it was. We didn't leave the hotel the next day, but on the second day when we walked into the office and told her who we were, she seem relieved that we came in and told us that she had been worried and thinking about us. Together, we figured out that it was just notifying us of our driving habits and trying to help us save gas. With all the bells and whistles that come with new cars, it's pretty much impossible to learn what a car will do without a workshop or tutorial that just doesn't come when you rent a car, but it definitely was nice having Monique there to help us and assure us that everything was fine. Since we didn't even rent from her, that was definitely service above and beyond that will be remembered and appreciated. Thanks again Monique for everything you did. read more

I have been using this location for years. They are treat locals well, and are great to the tourists too. Sometimes they do run out of cars because it's a smaller location, so making a reservation is key. It can be hard to find if you don't know where it is (Inside Embassy Suites at Satateline). read more
