If you've ever been stuck by the drawbridge on a busy week you know it adds 20-30 minutes, it's not done on a schedule, and it's unavoidable. Every other review is great, including this one. They're a great way to get around the Key. Free rides are great but they all rely on tips to continue. Be generous if the service is good.

This was my husband's and my first visit to Siesta Key, FL, and in case the traffic was heavy, we wanted the option to get a quick ride for cheap around the beaches and not have to take our big truck and find a place to park. The owner of the resort where we're staying said to try them. I called to get the low down, and the guy was polite and answered all my questions without problem. So I said that when the opportunity presents itself, I'd be calling for a ride because I had heard that the weekend was the time not to try to get around because the beaches are busy. So here we are yesterday, Sunday, and I've got to get to a restaurant in downtown beachdum before the close at 2:30p. I call at 1p to ask about how long before the "gentleman" can arrive at my resort, and was told about 20-25 min. OK -- it would be tight for a leisurely lunch, but I asked him to come and get us. We sat and waited and about 20 min. pass when I get a call on my phone and I say, "Are you out front?" He says, "Uh, I'm going to be about another 30 min because I'm stuck on the other side of the draw bridge and can't get there!" Well, now that means we won't even get to the restaurant until about 2p and will have to stuff lunch down, so I tell him that we're trying to get to a place before they close, and I appreciate his effort, but we've got to go and we'll just drive, so no thank you. We jump in our truck and start on our way when I receive a text from him that goes something like this: I don't know where you're from, Miss but around here we treat people with respect. I'm going to block your number so don't bother calling for another ride cause I'm blocking you! I couldn't believe it! I was not rude, I just couldn't wait any longer! Against my better judgement, I responded to his text saying, Go right ahead and block me because I'm blocking YOU! Where I come from, when people are counting on my business to be on time, we are on time! I will not only never call for a ride from you again, but I'm going to let EVERYONE on Yelp know about you as well! He had to get the last word before I actually blocked him and said, "I hope your lunch was worth the trouble." (whatever that meant) So, that is what I'm trying to warn you about. There are several taxi services here on Siesta Key, and I strongly recommend you call someone other than Surf Side Free Ride. You probably won't get a ride, but will get a nasty text for your wait time "trouble!" This guy was beyond rude.

    The rental process was quick and efficient. The staff were very helpful. Only area I could have…read moreused a little more information was about the electric vehicle and how to charge it. I haven't rented or owned an electric vehicle, so I didn't know what I needed to do to charge it. I did find out about the Presto application and that worked great. I ended with an electric vehicle, because I chose the option where the car company picks your car. I wouldn't do that the next time. The electric vehicle limits what you can do. I wanted to explore some areas that weren't feasible because of the car's range and the time it takes to recharge the battery. I spent nearly an hour or more daily, on a level 3, charger, charging. Thank you for getting me to the airport. It was an unexpected gesture, but very appreciated. I would recommend this location and rent from them again.

I rented from this branch for work purposes, so reliability mattered. Unfortunately, over multiple rentals I was given vehicles with serious issues: * Unsanitary conditions (including insect/roach presence) * Mechanical problems (warning lights and drivability concerns) * Safety concerns (severely worn/bald tires) I reported these issues at the time, and the location was aware of them. Despite that, no effective solution was provided and I was not given a viable replacement. I had to continue dealing with these problems, which cost me time, income, and significant stress. What followed was even worse. I spent over four months going back and forth with Avis Budget Group, dealing with delays, repeated follow-ups, and being ignored at times just to get basic responses. Only after significant escalation (including formal complaints) did they finally confirm that a refund was approved, stating it would be processed within 3-5 business days. It has now been over 10 business days, and: * No refund has been received * My bank confirms no transaction was ever initiated * Client Relations has stopped responding There is also a clear discrepancy in the refund amount: * Amount requested: $1,213.59 (baseline rental costs for defective vehicles) * Amount they referenced: $910.10, with no explanation provided for the difference Instead of resolving this, the company continues to delay and push the issue without providing a clear or final solution. After months of effort, follow-ups, and escalation, there is still no actual resolution. This reflects a serious lack of accountability, communication, and follow-through. I would update this review if the issue is properly resolved, but as of now, this has been an extremely time-consuming and frustrating experience.
