I feel like I am preaching to the converted at this point but just incase someone out there is looking for one more review to push them over the edge, here goes. IF IT MEANS YOU NEED TO WALK FROM THIS LOCATION TO THE AIRPORT TO GET A CAR, IT WILL BE WORTH IT. If you will have to walk everywhere you go during your entire trip you will have made the right choice. If you have to hitchhike on the back of a strangers motorcycle hugging his gut in a misty rain that makes it impossible to see where he is taking you, DO IT. I hate to sound hyperbolic because I mean every word of this. There is no justification, short of stoping by to remind the staff to go F*** themselves, for setting foot in this location. Through some very creative hiring and retention process they have managed to employ only those people deemed too hot tempered and rude to work in the prison system, too unstable to work at the post office and yet with a work ethic that allows them to complete only a single task a day...tomorrow.
Upon crossing the threshold you are instantly and peircingly aware that, though you have money and you made a reservation, you are not welcome and you will not be leaving for hours. It is as though Avis/Budget has managed to refine a process of human distillation that allows them to boil off compassion, empathy, competence, service, pride and respect for humanity, capture them, and send them to an incinerator to be destroyed. What you are left with are the employees behind the counter of this location.
To be fair the guys working in the garage seem ok so it may be less than excruciating to drop your car off here but remember: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU ATTEMPT AN INTERACTION WITH ANY OF THE EMPLOYEES WORKING BEHIND THE COUNTER. THEY DO NO KNOW YOU. THEY DO NOT LIKE YOU. THEY ARE NOT THERE TO HELP YOU. THEY ARE THERE TO PULL A CHECK AND YOU ARE SIMPLY AN INCONVENIENCE.
Now just so you know I am not a bot, but a customer who was treated this poorly here is my story
I had a flat tire in a car with nothing to change/fix it. I called Avis/Budget and they sent a tow truck to pick me and the car up to take us to this location(I asked them to just bring a car on the tow truck but of course that would cost me up to $1000.000. I get out and go inside. I am one of 3 customers, no biggie. I wait my turn, explain the situation to the woman behind the counter. She does not answer. Instead the other woman working there informs me that I will not be getting a car unless I get the tow truck that THEY arranged to come back. I try to be patient even trying to reset the conversation by explaining that we may have gotten off on the wrong foot. Her response, "We didn't get off on the wrong foot. If you do not get that car back her you are not getting a car." At no point did they offer to call anyone either simply stating the manager was gone for the day. So by this point I am on MY cell phone siting in THEIR lobby while the woman behind the counter proceed to shut their computers off.
Next the lights go out and I am literally the only person in the lobby or office area.
At this pint the Mechanic, yes that is right the mechanic, came to tell me that there was no way I was getting a car. the computers were off, the woman who worked the counter had left and there was nothing he could do. I couldn't believe that Avis/Budget arranged for me to be picked up and taken to a location only to be shoved outside in a strange city with nothing and no way of getting back to where I was.
Again, in their defense the competent people that work at the airport location did deliver a car to me that night and when I went back the next day the manager gave me $100.00 in vouchers. But that was just to get me to leave, it was less than half the cost of the rental and the car I got as replacement was worse than the one I paid to rent. Overall the experience took from 1pm when I noticed the tire, too 10:30 pm, when they delivered the car from SFO.
I rent cars from them over 30 times a year, I am a RapidRez and corporate customer but none of that seems to make a difference.
But who knows, maybe they would have found a way to treat me worse if I didn't have those things. read more
